***Updated: Preparing for Royal Mail Changes – 2 April***

22 March, 2013 | 05:49PM GMT

Hello,

We recently published guidance for sellers about Royal Mail’s upcoming price and format changes that are due to come into effect on the 2 April 2013. Please ensure that you are familiar with the way parcels are now priced (see “Format” section of this page).

In preparation for this, eBay are making a number of changes to postage services on the site.

Postage Limits

We’ve reviewed the maximum postage limits that apply to a number of categories in the light of the new Royal Mail prices and format changes. We have also taken the opportunity to ensure that sellers are able to use First Class Signed for services within the cap limits.

A number of categories have had their postage limits raised as result of this review. This change is already in effect to ensure sellers are able to list with the new limits ahead of Royal Mail’s changes.

Postage Estimator

Our Postage Estimator will be updated by the 26 March to reflect the changes that Royal Mail are introducing. We’ve also updated the tool to reflect the services that are available on our Pay and Print Label Service and to display the Postage Discounts available on that platform.

We recommend that ALL sellers check the new postage costs for their items using this tool to ensure that you are not caught out by the changes on the 2 April.

Postage Services

Royal Mail have also made changes to the services that are offered to sellers. As a result the following changes will be made to postage services available on listings – Royal Mail Standard Parcels – This service is being withdrawn from the 2 April. This service will no longer be available to list with from the 26th March. Sellers should review their listings and change this service to Royal Mail 2nd Class.

Royal Mail Business services - over the next few months we will be updating the service names available in the listing tools to reflect the new names of the services that Royal Mail have for business sellers.

Regards,

The eBay team

***eBay for Charity : Disasters Emergency Committee Syria Crisis Appeal***

22 March, 2013 | 07:23AM GMT

Hello,

The conflict in Syria has resulted in a worsening emergency. Of the 3 million people forced to flee, nearly 50% of those seeking refuge in neighbouring countries are children. Those who’ve fled the conflict desperately need food, shelter and medical supplies.

Leading UK aid agencies have launched a major fundraising appeal through the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) for donations to help those affected.

Your donation could help provide life-saving treatments to children at risk of disease and provide food and shelter for families to help them survive.

To help, simply:

1. Make the DEC appeal a favourite charity, and add a donation when you pay for an item through eBay checkout using PayPal.

2. Buy and sell items to benefit the DEC appeal using eBay for Charity.

3. Make an instant donation to the DEC appeal via PayPal.

Please note that 100% of your donations will go to the DEC appeal.

Regards,

The eBay for Charity Team

We’re also reaching out to the sellers who’ve been most affected to support them directly with their recovery efforts.

***Email addresses, offers to sell outside eBay and some URLs no longer allowed in eBay messages***

18 March, 2013 | 06:39AM GMT

We've updated eBay’s member-to-member contact policy to prohibit members from exchanging the following items of information in member-to-member communications:

  • Email addresses,
  • Offers to buy or sell outside eBay,
  • URLs to non-eBay sites that don’t directly help buyers purchase items on eBay.

Messages that include phone numbers and links to additional information that aid in the purchase decision or facilitate item delivery will still be permitted. These include warranties, manuals, and tracking links. We discourage buyers and sellers from sending offers to buy and sell outside eBay, as these transactions aren’t covered by eBay buyer protection programmes.

For more information about these changes, see eBay’sMember-to-member contact policy, and learn more about eBay Buyer Protection.

The eBay-Team

***Red Nose Day***

11 March, 2013 | 10:55AM GMT

The 2013 Red Nose Day BBC TV show airs on Friday 15 March. Many eBay buyers and sellers have supported the Comic Relief appeal since eBay for Charity launched in 2005, raising over £750,000 for the charity on eBay.co.uk.

If you’ve not yet used eBay for Charity when you list, it’s just 2 simple steps:

1) Choose a charity and the percentage you’d like to donate when listing an item.

Use the Advanced Sell form or listing tools such as Turbo Lister to make sure you see the charity option.

2) The PayPal Giving Fund will automatically collect your donation after the item sells and pass 100% of your donation on to your chosen charity.

All charity items stand out in search results with a special charity ribbon, giving them extra prominence against competing listings. You’ll also get an eBay fee credit on your basic insertion and final value fees equal to the percentage of the sale you donate.

Comic Relief is involved in a number of exciting year-round initiatives and projects, every one of them working towards transforming the lives of poor and vulnerable people in the UK and across the world.

If you’d like to support the Red Nose Day appeal on eBay.co.uk, just make Comic Relief into a favourite charity and it’ll appear in the sell form the next time you list. You can choose other favourite charities from our database of over 7,000 in the UK.

You can also bid on unique fashion items and one-off experiences from the Red Nose Day official eBay auction.

In total, eBay users have raised over £43m for over 7,000 UK charities, large and small, on eBay.co.uk. Find out more about eBay for Charity on the eBay for Charity FAQ page.

***Listing Policy: The Channel 4 Comedy Gala tickets***

07 March, 2013 | 11:50AM GMT

Tickets for The Channel 4 Comedy Gala in aid of Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity will go on sale from Friday 8th March. All proceeds will enable Great Street Hospital to provide care and support to its young patients and their families.

We have been working with the charity to support their fundraising from the event. Because tickets are limited, we expect some will be offered for sale on eBay. To ensure the charity benefits from these sales, we will apply the following conditions to the listings:

  • At least 20% of the final sale price for any tickets to Channel 4 Comedy Gala on the 18th May 2013 must be donated to Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity through the eBay for Charity programme.
  • One-day and three-day listings will not be allowed.

To make sure you can support the charity when you list the item, click the “Save as Favourite” button on Great Ormond Street Hospital’s page on eBay.

Thanks for your understanding and for your support of this cause.

Regards,

The eBay for Charity Team

***Royal Mail price changes 2013 – Notice to UK sellers***

04 March, 2013 | 10:00AM GMT

Hello,

On 1 March 2013 the Royal Mail announced  it’s new prices for 2013 along with changes to the way some services are priced and new names forbusiness services.

What these changes mean to you.

Private Sellers

Letter Stamp Prices are unchanged from their 2012 prices. Therefore if the item that you are listing, or wish to list, will fit into a package measuring less than 2.5cm thick then you are unaffected by the changes.

For items thicker than 2.5cm the new “Parcel” format applies which will result in a price increase for sellers.  Sellers posting items that are  more than 8cm thick will now be charged Medium Parcel” format Royal Mail prices.  NB – There some exclusions to this rule.  Check Royal Mail’s guidance on this.

The full details of Royal Mail’s new consumer prices can be found here .

We encourage sellers to continue to shop around for the best service for them and their customers, particularly for larger/heavier items and we’ll be playing our part by offering services from a range of couriers, some offering large discounts, in our Label Printing service..

Business Sellers

Royal Mail has simplified its service names and lowered the threshold for eligibility to receive discounts as a business seller. Many Business sellers should now find themselves eligible for a Royal Mail contract and therefore be able to mitigate any impact on their postage costs. Full details can be found here . eBay will be updating the service names on eBay.co.uk’s flows to reflect these changes and we would encourage sellers to use the new names.

Postage Caps

As a result of these changes eBay will be reviewing the maximum postage caps that we have applied.  Further details will follow.

Regards,

The eBay.co.uk team
