From February, you'll be able to specify the following returns information when listing your item:

• Returns time frame (how long the buyer has to return the item - now at least 14 days)
• Who pays for return postage (you or the buyer)

These new drop-down options make it simpler for you to manage the returns information on your listings, and give buyers clear, consistent information about a seller's returns policy. Later this year, we'll require business sellers to enter this information for all listings.

These fields will be available on eBay selling tools including the Advanced sell ('Sell Your Item') form, bulk editing and relisting in My eBay, Turbo Lister, and Selling Manager/Selling Manager Pro.

Offering returns is good business

All sellers on eBay must specify a returns policy for their items, whether your policy is to accept returns or not. Research shows that buyers appreciate the peace of mind of shopping from sellers who offer returns, and that items with a clear returns policy typically sell better than items without one.

If you trade as a business, you're legally obliged to sort things out for your buyer if an item is faulty, arrives damaged or is not fit for its purpose. A consumer buyer also has the right to return an item to you if they change their mind. Learn more about your legal obligations as a business  .

Minimum time frame for returns

We are setting 14 days as the minimum period that sellers can specify for accepting returns. While this is a longer time frame than the 7-day cancellation period that applies under current UK and Irish distance selling rules, a 14-day returns period will be required under UK and Irish selling regulations that will become effective in December 2013.

We've decided to apply these standards early as part of providing the quality of service that buyers have come to expect when shopping online, and ensuring they feel confident buying on eBay.

As communicated to our sellers, we’ve made some changes to the eBay.co.uk User Agreement (UK User Agreement) and eBay Buyer Protection Policy.  These are effective immediately for new members, and on 12 March 2013 for current members.

Here is a summary of the main changes:

• We’ve added a section to cover international trading. In particular, the new section covers selling items internationally, and related tools including estimated currency conversion, postage calculation tools, and the translation of listings into other languages. In addition, we’ve updated the International Selling Agreement that sellers agree to when listing items with international postage or on a site that has an eBay Buyer Protection policy.

• We’ve also added a new policy to cover the use of all types of comparative pricing (i.e. RRP or historical pricing) on eBay. You can find the new policy here.

• We’ve included a section to highlight your responsibilities when buying items on eBay. We aren’t adding any new responsibilities, just highlighting them.

• We’ve added further details to cover the use of eBay’s mobile applications, as we’re likely to change how we display the terms and conditions for our mobile applications in the future.

• We’ve made further changes regarding eBay Buyer Protection as summarised below (see the eBay Buyer Protection Policy for the full details):

• As communicated to our sellers in the Autumn 2012 seller news, we’ll be making some changes to allow buyers and sellers to communicate more efficiently about transaction issues. This means that contacts from buyers for items not received and significantly not as described will be collected and presented in the Resolution Centre to help bring about an efficient resolution. Contacts from buyers will no longer count against a seller’s performance rating. Only unresolved eligible cases that are referred to eBay for a decision may count against a seller’s performance rating.

• As a seller, where we seek to carry out a buyer reimbursement, and you don’t have sufficient funds available in the transaction currency, you authorise us to request PayPal to collect or reverse variable amounts in other currency holdings.

As with earlier updates, other changes have been made to keep the User Agreement up to date with the products and services we provide.

Tickets for Muse’s concert at the 02 Shepherds Bush Empire in aid of War Child went on sale from 30^th January 2012. All proceeds will enable War Child to support vulnerable children and families whose lives have been torn apart by war.

We have been working with the charity to support their fundraising from the event. Because tickets are limited, we expect some will be offered for sale on eBay. To ensure the charity benefits from these sales, we will apply the following conditions to the listings:

• At least 20% of the final sale price for any tickets to Muse’s 02 Shepherd Bush Empire concert on the 18^th February must be donated to War Child through the eBay for Charity programme.
• One-day and three-day listings will not be allowed.

To make sure you can support the charity when you list the item, click the “Save as Favourite” button on War Child’s page on eBay.
