***Improved bulk edit tool set as default for eBay.co.uk and eBay.ie***

29 October, 2010 | 10:00AM BST

The new Bulk Edit and Relist tool will be the default way to perform bulk edits as of today. Available since July in the UK and Ireland, the new tool has received very positive reviews.

Based on your feedback, it features a host of improvements. These include:

  • Table-like interface
  • Additional fields which are editable
  • Replace function to make bulk changes to the item description
  • Edit up to 500 listings simultaneously

The tool will now be the default way to edit items in bulk. You don’t need to do anything, but you’ll start using the new functionality once you start editing multiple items. If you prefer the old experience, you can always set this via the link on the top-right corner of any page in the tool.

Regards,
The eBay Team

***Reminder of end of British Summer Time Sunday 31 October ***

29 October, 2010 | 10:00AM BST

British Summer Time ends this weekend and we want to inform you about any potential impact this may have on your listings. The clocks will fall back by one hour at 2am to 1am on Sunday 31 October, 2010.

Auction format listings on eBay.co.uk and eBay.ie starting before the change and ending afterwards will still run for the correct length of time (3, 5, 7 or 10 days). For example, if an auction format listing was to start at 13:00 before the time change and ends afterwards on Sunday, then the listing’s end time will be at 12:00 instead of 13:00.

The eBay Team

***eBay expands into 3 new countries***

14 October, 2010 | 02:11PM BST

eBay has now launched new sites in Finland, Hungary and Portugal. This means an additional 25 million people are now able to use a local eBay website.

Earlier in 2010 eBay opened sites in Russia, the Czech Republic, Greece, Denmark, Sweden and Norway. Since then, over 8 million items have been bought from these markets and the number of customers continues to grow rapidly. The most popular item categories in these new markets are Fashion, Consumer Electronics and Auto Parts.

Key benefits for sellers:
- Increase sales as buyers will be directed to listings on eBay.co.uk that offer delivery to their location.
- Target specific markets as buyers generally look for products that cannot be found locally or are more expensive in their own country. This is especially the case with auto parts, fashion and consumer electronics.

Key benefits for buyers on eBay International Market:
- An eBay site in their local language: The only things not translated will be seller’s item titles and descriptions.
- The ability to search for items across eBay’s global inventory which can be delivered to their location
- Prices converted into local currency
- Customer support in their native language

Buyer & seller protection on the eBay International Market:
- PayPal will be the only accepted form of payment on the eBay International Market sites. eBay Buyer Protection will apply to nearly all purchases made on eBay.co.uk and paid with PayPal.

If you want your items to be viewed by buyers from these markets, important things to know are:
- Only fixed price items will be included
- You’ll need to offer worldwide postage and specify P&P costs
- You must be PayPal verified and offer PayPal as a payment option.

***Update: Buyer Protection cases to be added to seller performance standards***

14 October, 2010 | 10:56AM BST

In September we reminded you that eBay Buyer Protection cases and PayPal Buyer Protection cases are to be added to seller performance standards and will become effective from the 20 October evaluation. All sellers should regularly visit their seller dashboard to ensure that they are meeting the new requirements.

To clarify, moving forward, all cases where eBay contacts the seller via the Resolution Centre to inform them that a buyer has opened a case will be included in the calculation of seller standards.  There are two measurements that sellers will be evaluated on:

  • Cases opened as a result of item not received or significantly not as described (“opened cases”)
  • Cases that were not resolved by the seller, and either eBay or PayPal have determined upon escalation that the seller was responsible for resolution (“closed cases without seller resolution”)

eBay and PayPal will screen cases for buyer abuse and exclude them from the count of opened cases to help ensure that a seller’s performance is reflected accurately.

In addition, several checks will be undertaken before a case is considered “opened”. These include:

  • Status of payment
  • Whether a full refund via PayPal has been completed
  • Whether the buyer attempted to contact the seller
  • Whether a case has already been filed for the same transaction
  • Whether a credit card chargeback has been filed through PayPal
  • For item not received cases, whether enough time has passed since payment was completed

***Updated: Automatic 5 star detailed seller rating for listings with free Postage & Packaging***

08 October, 2010 | 02:52PM BST

We’d like to update you on the process around automated 5 stars for transactions offering free Postage & Packaging.

From October,we want to confirm that for transactions where the only shipping method offered was free shipping and where the payment was not with PayPal, the P&P DSR will be pre-filled with 5 stars. However, since eBay cannot ensure that there were no Postage & Packaging fees ultimately charged, the buyer will still be able to edit the DSR if they wish.

***Original: Automatic 5 star detailed seller rating for listings with free Postage & Packaging***

06 September, 2010 | 10:16AM BST

From 6 September, transactions offering free Postage & Packaging will automatically receive 5 stars for their P&P charges detailed seller rating. To be eligible, buyers must have used eBay checkout and must have paid with PayPal. These are required to enable eBay to ensure that no Postage & Packaging fees were ultimately charged.

Sellers can take advantage of this by offering free Postage & Packaging to buyers in time for the busy Christmas period. This will help you attract more customers and get greater visibility in search results. Learn more about improving your search standing.

Buyers won't be able to change the automatic 5 star rating. Sellers can still offer additional payment methods, but only transactions paid with PayPal will be eligible to receive 5 stars for P&P charges automatically.

New message if buyers want to leave neutral or negative feedback

From October 2010, we will display a message to buyers who are about to leave neutral or negative feedback. This message will encourage them to contact the seller to resolve any problems that may have occurred.

In addition, we are asking buyers to confirm their intention in a pop-up window before they can submit neutral or negative feedback.

The eBay Team

***New features and enhancements coming to eBay Fashion***

04 October, 2010 | 09:39AM BST

New features and enhancements coming to eBay Fashion

The fashion shopping experience is being improved on eBay, with new search features available to help you find great fashion deals on eBay.

Fashion destination page has a new look in October

Here, you’ll find:

  • A redesigned page that will give you a visual and more inspirational browsing experience.
  • Information on the latest fashion trends, popular items and great deals.
  • Links to specific products from the wide selection available on the site.

A navigation that is faster, easier and better

  • Simply click on the ‘Fashion’ link to access the fashion destination page from the eBay header.
  • Easily access the main clothing categories from the new category navigation bar.
  • New Fashion Shopping Profiles will give you the ability to save personalised profiles and preferences (Brand, Size, Item Condition, Format) and allow you to find your individual style. You can apply these profiles to the new landing pages and the Clothing, Shoes & Accessories search results pages.
  • Filter items by item condition, brand, size, colour, price using "More Like This".
  • Improvements to the navigation for Clothing, Shoes & Accessories on search results pages enable multi-select, visual size buttons and brand scroll.

If you’re a seller in Fashion
Take advantage of the new features on eBay Fashion by following these listing best practices:
  • Include high quality photos showcasing your products
    • Upload large, high resolution images at least 1000 pixels on the longest side, and at least 90dpi. The photos should be well lit, focused and with a neutral background.
    • Use a mannequin or model when photographing clothing. It’s a better way to show fit than hangers. Be sure to show photos of tags on your new items.
    • Provide multiple photos that show your item from different angles and focus on details, applications and any wear, tear or defects to set buyer expectations about imperfect items.
  • Make it easy for buyers to find all the information on brand, colour, style, size and condition
    • Fill in all item specifics using the eBay values that best describe them, as this will help buyers when searching for it. Make sure the most appropriate category has been chosen for the item.
    • Maximise the item’s title using all 55 characters. Include relevant keywords, such as brand, size, colour and material.  Hint: Use bulk edit tools to optimise title, change the category, add details to the descriptions and add pictures to the live listings.
  • Use multi-variation listings
    • Sellers can include multiple variations of one product (such as colour and size) in one listing which will provide a better shopping experience.
    • Each item variation can be priced and all the colours and sizes sold for a single listing fee.

The eBay Team
