In November 2008 we told you about a trial on eBay.co.uk that enabled eBay users to donate £1 to a featured charity when buying an item on the site.

We‘re very excited to tell you that this trial has been a huge success, with over three quarters of a million pounds raised so far. As a result, we’re now making this feature standard on eBay.co.uk and we’ll also be adding a new option enabling users to make larger donations.

This feature is part of the eBay for Charity programme, which provides an easy way for buyers and sellers on eBay.co.uk to support their favourite charities. Buyers can choose to either shop for items that support a good cause or donate to charity when they buy any item on the site. Sellers can choose to donate a percentage from any sale to a charity of their choice and add Gift Aid to their donations. Charities also sell their own items directly on eBay.co.uk.
