***Celebrating Ten Years of Buying and Selling on eBay.co.uk***

30 July, 2009 | 11:13AM BST

eBay.co.uk has seen over 950 million items sold in the past decade - testimony to our buyers’ enduring love of shopping and pursuit of a bargain.

From the first ever eBay.co.uk sale (a 3-track CD from German rockers The Scorpions sold for £2.89), the eBay.co.uk site has become an indicator of changing consumer tastes. We’re proud that our site is also a platform for charity fundraising and entrepreneurialism. More than £10.5m has been raised for more than 3,500 charities since the launch of eBay for Charity in 2006. And, of the 123,000 British businesses now trading on eBay, over 170 turn over more than a million pounds a year from selling on our site.

We’d like to take this opportunity to thank all our buyers and sellers for your business over the past 10 years and we look forward to providing you with a great place to buy and sell for the next 10 years. Find out more about eBay.co.uk over the past ten years.

Regards,

The eBay.co.uk Team

***UK postal strike 24th – 25th July ***

23 July, 2009 | 05:45PM BST

Royal Mail has announced that postal workers intend to go on strike within the following districts from Fri 24th July to Sat 25th July.

On Friday, industrial action is limited to the north London area.
On Saturday, industrial action will impact the following areas;
London (N, NW, SW, SE, E and selected W postcodes)
Stockport
Irvine

Buyers and sellers using Royal Mail services within these districts should be aware of potential delays in delivery of mail (only mail originating from or being delivered to these districts will be affected, all other UK mail would not be affected)

Best advice for eBay sellers is to notify customers that there will likely be delays to their purchases arriving. Expect a minimum of two to three days delay for mail in these districts although it may well take until the following week for services to resume to normal

In future we will announce only national strikes to members and we ask sellers to notify their buyers of local or regional strikes. This will avoid the confusion of multiple announcements to members.

The eBay Team

***Charity donation in eBay checkout***

09 July, 2009 | 10:00AM BST

In November 2008 we told you about a trial on eBay.co.uk that enabled eBay users to donate £1 to a featured charity when buying an item on the site.

We‘re very excited to tell you that this trial has been a huge success, with over three quarters of a million pounds raised so far. As a result, we’re now making this feature standard on eBay.co.uk and we’ll also be adding a new option enabling users to make larger donations.

This feature is part of the eBay for Charity programme, which provides an easy way for buyers and sellers on eBay.co.uk to support their favourite charities. Buyers can choose to either shop for items that support a good cause or donate to charity when they buy any item on the site. Sellers can choose to donate a percentage from any sale to a charity of their choice and add Gift Aid to their donations. Charities also sell their own items directly on eBay.co.uk.

Learn more about eBay for Charity.

Thanks on behalf of UK Charities for your continued and generous support.

The eBay Team

***Original: DEMAND AN END TO UNFAIR TRADE PRACTICES ***

06 July, 2009 | 12:30PM BST

eBay was built on a simple idea – that we could empower people by building a global trading platform where practically anyone could buy or sell practically anything.

This idea is now under threat from brands who are trying to block the sale of their products on online marketplaces and other websites - regardless of whether such items are new or second-hand, genuine or fake.

We are therefore calling on the European Commission to amend EU competition law to stop these unfair trade practices. But we need your help to persuade them to take action.

Sign our petition against online trade barriers today!

The eBay Team

***Michael Jackson Tickets - Refund Instructions***

03 July, 2009 | 05:35PM BST

eBay is committed to ensuring that none of our members, whether buyers or sellers, should lose out financially due to the untimely death of Michael Jackson.

We decided to remove any uncertainty as quickly as we could and let you know that we would ensure that all buyers on the site receive a full refund for their purchase of tickets for the O2 concerts in London. All sellers who issue full refunds to buyers will be refunded all associated eBay listing and Final Value Fees. Under the circumstances we believe this is the right thing to do.

What to do if you bought tickets

If you have not already heard from your seller we recommend that you contact them by 13th July to ask for a refund. If you have already received the ticket and you get a full refund, you should return the physical ticket to your seller. We also ask that you be patient and allow sellers time to process refund requests.

All buyers affected by this issue will receive an email from us shortly explaining how to contact the seller and what to do if you are unable to make contact.

What to do if you sold tickets

Please contact your buyer by 17th July if you haven't already done so. We'll credit all associated eBay fees once the buyer has been fully refunded. These will appear in your 30th July or 15th August invoice depending on your billing cycle.

All sellers who have sold tickets will receive an email from us shortly explaining how to contact the buyer and when you will receive a refund of eBay fees.

Regards,

The eBay Team

The sad news of Michael Jackson's death has left fans of the King of Pop bereft. eBay is committed to ensuring that no buyer is left out of pocket as a result of the unique nature of the event, and will ensure all buyers on the site can receive a full refund for their ticket purchase.

On this basis, eBay and PayPal is extending its Buyer Protection to all Michael Jackson concert ticket purchases bought on eBay. The company will also help sellers by refunding eBay's sales commission when they refund buyers for Michael Jackson ticket sales.

***Original: Michael Jackson concert tickets ***

26 June, 2009 | 02:08PM BST

We are extremely sad to hear that one of music’s biggest legends has passed away. Michael Jackson had planned to stage a number of concerts in the UK and tickets for these concerts were available through eBay.

Effective immediately we are removing all live listings for Michael Jackson tickets, and blocking all new listings of them for the foreseeable future. This will also be the case for tickets listed as memorabilia.

We understand that buyers are keen to receive a refund due to the cancellation of the concerts. We recommend that in the first instance buyers contact sellers to request refunds.  We strongly recommend to sellers that they refund the full purchase price of all tickets they have sold.  We would also ask buyers to be patient and allow sellers time to process refund requests.

Any ticket purchases made during the last 45 days and paid for with PayPal will be covered by PayPal Buyer Protection. We are reviewing the options for those who bought tickets before May 13th and will update you shortly

Regards,

The eBay Team
