***Using Detailed Seller Ratings in 2008***

04 December, 2007 | 02:00PM GMT

We wanted to give you an update on Detailed Seller Ratings and how they will be used in 2008.

We believe the most important service we can provide for our sellers is to bring them a large audience of engaged and active buyers. These buyers repeatedly tell us that they’ll only keep coming back to eBay if they can buy from reliable sellers and if we are able to take steps to protect them from bad experiences on the site.

As a result, we’ll soon be launching a series of changes to the site based on Detailed Seller Ratings. These ratings help buyers to identify sellers who provide a great service, as well as those who might cause them problems.

Since their introduction in early 2007, Detailed Seller Ratings have been left for tens of millions of transactions, and we will continue to educate buyers on how to leave worthwhile and accurate ratings for sellers.

The changes we’ll introduce will use Detailed Seller Ratings to make sure good sellers continue to have access to our audience of buyers, and to give less emphasis in search results to the tiny percentage of sellers who are responsible for a disproportionate number of the bad experiences that buyers have.

We look forward to updating you further during the rest of 2007 and in 2008 about these changes.

Regards,

The eBay Team
