To help make your blog personal, you can customise the appearance with a variety of templates or you can use HTML and stylesheets to create your own look.
If you’re a seller, a blog can be a useful way of interacting with potential buyers and talking about your products.

***New: Item Specifics Feature in Cars, Parts & Vehicles, Clothes, Shoes & Accessories, Health & Beauty, Home & Garden, Jewellery & Watches and Musical Instruments*** |
 |
 |
 |
13 March, 2007 | 03:27PM GMT

eBay’s Item Specifics feature allows sellers to provide more details when they list an item. Buyers can then search against these item details, as well as using the standard Title Search and Description Search functions, so they can find items quickly and easily.
Where Item Specifics have been introduced, sellers see an increase in sales. Buyers can refine their searches quickly, and Item Descriptions are more detailed and clearly structured.
Sellers can choose whether to include Item Specifics in their listing, and buyers can choose whether or not to use them in search.

***Testing different ways to display international items on eBay.co.uk*** |
 |
 |
 |
08 March, 2007 | 11:48AM GMT

As you may be aware, we have recently removed items that are listed on eBay.co.uk from default search results on eBay.com in the US.
Over the coming months, we will be testing different ways of displaying international listings on various eBay sites worldwide, with the aim of appropriately balancing the needs of domestic sellers in each market with those of exporting sellers from other countries.
The first of these tests, which will begin at the end of this week, will display items listed by US sellers on eBay.com by default in a few selected categories on eBay.co.uk. We have selected categories where imports from the US to the UK already represent a significant proportion of trade in the category. US listings will be displayed by default on eBay.co.uk in these categories if a seller offers PayPal, has at least 100 feedback with at least 98% positive, and has set a postage price to the UK. SIF listings will not be displayed.
The categories in which this test will run are:
- Business, Office & Industrial: Medical/ Lab Equipment
- Clothes, Shoes & Accessories: Women’s Accessories
- Collectables: Clocks
- Collectables: Disneyana
- Collectables: Knives/ Swords
- Consumer Electronics: MP3 Players
- Jewellery & Watches: Watches
- Stamps: United States
- Toys & Games: Games
This test will run for around two months, during which time we will measure the impact on UK sellers, US sellers and the behaviour of UK buyers. We will be running similar tests in the future in which we show UK listings by default on other eBay sites, with the aim of giving them the most appropriate visibility worldwide.

The eBay.co.uk Team

***Feedback 2.0 launches on eBay.co.uk and eBay.ie*** |
 |
 |
 |
07 March, 2007 | 11:17AM GMT
We’d like to let you know about some changes to our Feedback system that will make it easier for buyers to find our best sellers and for good sellers to really stand out.
From today, buyers in the UK and Ireland, as well as Australia, Belgium, France, India, Italy and Poland, will be able to rate sellers on the four Detailed Seller Ratings we announced in January.
What’s changed?
- As well as leaving an overall positive, neutral or negative Feedback score, buyers can now rate sellers on Item Description, Communication, Dispatch time and Postage & Packaging Charges.
- The Feedback Profile page has changed and now includes a summary area for the Detailed Seller Ratings.
Buyers can rate sellers on a one to five-star scale for each of the Detailed Seller Ratings, with one the lowest and five the highest rating. Once a seller has received 10 Detailed Seller Ratings, the average is displayed on the Feedback Profile page.
Please note: the Detailed Seller Rating average does not affect a seller’s overall Feedback percentage.
In addition, in place of just the item number, the item title and price related to each piece of Feedback will be now visible on the Feedback Profile page for 90 days after the comment was left. This will give buyers more visibility into the types of items sellers have been selling, and consequently the type of sales their Feedback score is based upon.
Feedback is the foundation of trust on eBay. These changes ensure that the Feedback system continues to be a credible measure of trust in an ever-growing and changing community marketplace, enabling our best sellers to stand out and buyers to make more informed decisions before buying.
For more information on Feedback, please read the following Help pages:
As always, we will be monitoring this new feature as it develops, and will let you know of any further updates.
Regards,
Garreth Griffith,
Head of Trust & Safety, eBay.co.uk and eBay.ie

***Policy Clarification: Auction Extensions Prohibited*** |
 |
 |
 |
06 March, 2007 | 03:31PM GMT

We’re making a change to our Fee Circumvention Policy to clarify that auction extensions are not allowed on the eBay marketplace. All auction extensions, both automatic (eg. via a third-party tool) and manual (eg. through Revise Your Item), are banned. Third-party auction extender tools allow sellers to extend auction-style listings automatically beyond their original duration.
Why we’re making this change
Auction extensions, whether automatic or manual, disrupt normal bidding patterns and create a negative buyer experience. For instance, buyers who enjoy bidding in the last moments of an auction are unfairly disrupted when listings are inappropriately extended. These tools also "un-level" the playing field between sellers by unfairly extending the length of time a listing is available on the site. Not only do these listings remain active longer than intended, many buyers also look for items that have been newly listed, so these listings have an added unfair advantage.
In special circumstances, such as those covered by our Outage Policy, eBay reserves the right to extend all eligible auction format listings.
For more information on this policy clarification, please read eBay’s Fee Circumvention Policy. For information about our other policies, please check eBay’s Rules and Policies and Rules for Sellers. You can find these pages by clicking on Help at the top of any eBay page and clicking the "Rules and Policies" link.

***Change to ‘Time: Newly Listed’ sort order in Browse and Search*** |
 |
 |
 |
02 March, 2007 | 03:17PM GMT
We wanted to let you know that the way items appear in Browse and Search when listings are sorted by "Time: Newly Listed" has changed. Items now appear based on the time they become visible on eBay, and not the time the listing was submitted, as before.
For the majority of listings, there will be no noticeable difference. However, for a variety of reasons some listings may occasionally be delayed before they appear on the site and, before the change, it was possible that they would miss out on appearing at the top of a list sorted by "Time: Newly Listed". Delayed listings now show up based on when they first appear on the site, putting them on an equal footing with listings not subject to delay.
Please note that the change applies to the sort order, and does not affect the end time for auctions or alter the listing time shown under "Listing and payment details" when a buyer goes to "View Item".
