***eBay Agreement with Google***

28 August, 2006 | 11:00AM BST

In an expansion of our ongoing relationship, eBay and Google have agreed to work together in ways that complement our companies’ strengths. Google will become the exclusive provider of text-based advertising in search results on eBay sites outside the United States. eBay plans to continue its longstanding advertising relationship with Google and work closely to optimize its online campaigns to help shoppers find eBay listings.

In addition, Google and eBay will work together to deliver “click-to-call” advertising functionality on eBay and Google sites in the United States and around the world. “Click-to-call” functionality enables online consumers to initiate an Internet voice call to merchants or advertisers directly.

The companies will start testing initiatives of the agreement beginning in early 2007, after the 2006 holiday shopping period. For more details of this agreement, please read our press release.

***NEW: Classified Ads now available on eBay.co.uk***

24 August, 2006 | 12:34PM BST

We’re delighted to announce that Classified Ads are now available on eBayMotors.co.uk, in the Cars, Motorcycles and other vehicle categories, as well as in select Business, Office and Industrial categories on eBay.co.uk. With the new Classified Ad format, sellers and buyers do not complete the transaction online through eBay. Instead, sellers can use Classified Ads to advertise their items for sale on eBay and generate multiple leads.

Information for Car Dealers
The new Classified Ad service has been designed and built with dealers in mind and offers you a new way to take advantage of the eBayMotors.co.uk audience to increase sales. The Classified Ads will appear on the site alongside regular Auction-style and Buy It Now listings.

We are introducing a new bulk listing tool, eBay Motors Pro, to help dealers put their stock quickly and easily onto the site and in front of eBayMotors.co.uk's 3.7 million* potential buyers. Learn more about this on www.ebaymotorspro.co.uk.

Open to All
You don't have to be a dealer to get involved with Classified Ads all sellers can use the Classified Ad format. You can find out more here.

If you want more information about Classified Ads as a buyer you can find out more here.

Changes to the Search Default
We are also changing the default sort for categories with Classified Ads from “Time: ending soonest” to “Price: lowest first” because price is the most common way for sorting vehicles listings in the wider market. Buyers still have the option to sort their search/browse results by other criteria that they choose.

The eBay.co.uk Team

***Reminder: Royal Mail’s Price Changes Come into Effect on Monday 21st August***

18 August, 2006 | 06:12PM BST

Hullo there,

I’m Dan from eBay.co.uk’s Community Relations team. I want to remind you about the changes the Royal Mail will be making from Monday 21st August to the way they calculate prices.

As most of you will already know, Royal Mail will be changing their domestic pricing to take into account not just the weight of items but the size too. You can find out more about these changes on the Royal Mail website: www.royalmail.com/size

We urge everyone, buyers and sellers, to get to know the new system and how it might affect the postage prices you pay on eBay.

With a change like this it’s inevitable that buyers and sellers will be affected. In the event of a problem the best course of action is to communicate with your trading partner and try to resolve it amicably.

We have produced a page with some additional advice and you can find it here: http://pages.ebay.co.uk/royalmail210806/

Cheers,

Dan

***Information for Buyers: Questions about Buying from eBay Shops Today***

15 August, 2006 | 08:00PM BST

We’ve received a number of emails from eBay.co.uk buyers with questions about media coverage relating to a ‘strike’ by eBay sellers. They have been seeking reassurance that they are still able to buy on eBay.co.uk.

We want to let you know that it is business as usual for almost all our sellers and we encourage you to go about your buying as normal.

We are aware of a very small number of sellers who claim they are not accepting purchases for today only to express their views about recently announced changes to the way Shops items are displayed and also changes to Shop listings fees.

The changes we have announced are intended to maintain a healthy balance between listing formats on the eBay marketplace. You can find further information here and here

***Trust and Safety: Buying & Selling Mobile Phones Safely on eBay***

04 August, 2006 | 05:51PM BST

Hi again,

It’s Garreth here, from the Trust and Safety team at eBay.co.uk. I want to let you know about some developments related to the sale of blocked or barred mobile phones. The sale of blocked or barred mobile phones is not permitted under our Encouraging Illegal Activity policy which you can find here.

We’ve partnered with the National Mobile Phone Crime Unit (a part of the Metropolitan Police Service) to create a guide to buying and selling mobile phone safely on eBay. You can find the guide here. The guide has lots of tips and advice to help buyers and sellers.

The partnership follows a successful joint-operation in Greater London to identify and arrest eBay users trying to sell blocked or barred phones. The joint investigation by NMPCU and eBay’s Fraud Investigations Team led to the execution of 20 warrants and 13 arrests in the Greater London area. Forty-five stolen mobile handsets were seized as part of NMPCU raids carried out on the basis of information supplied by eBay.

I hope you’ll take the time to read the guide.

Regards,
Garreth

***Reminder: Changes to Shop Listings Visibility on eBay.co.uk and eBay.ie***

02 August, 2006 | 09:48PM BST

As announced on 20th July, from today we will be changing the way that Shop Listings are displayed on eBay.co.uk and eBay.ie. You can find the eBay.co.uk announcement here and the eBay.ie announcement here.

It’s vitally important that we maintain a healthy balance between listing formats on the eBay marketplace. From today we will be reducing the visibility of Shop Items in the main search results on eBay.co.uk and eBay.ie. As it stands at the moment Shop items are displayed at the end of all Search and Browse results. After the change Shop Items will be still be displayed in results but only when the main site has returned only a small number of relevant items.

For more details, you can read our eBay.co.uk Information Page here. For eBay.ie information, click here.

Implementing this change may take a few days, we appreciate your patience as the new system is introduced.

Regards,
The eBay.co.uk and eBay.ie Teams
