***Research Email Information***

30 March, 2006 | 01:58PM BST

At eBay we are always looking at ways to develop our services and communications so they better meet your needs and drive your trading success.

For this reason ICM, an independent research company, has been commissioned by eBay to recruit members to participate in an online survey about the Feedback system from 30th March to 6th April 2006.

Over the next few days, you may receive an email asking for your participation in the survey. Rest assured that this is not a spoof or scam email.

For more information about online safety and spoof emails, click here.

***NEW: Layout Changes to the Top of the Item Page***

29 March, 2006 | 04:34PM BST

Hello All,

My name’s Oliver and I work in the eBay.co.uk Product team. We’ve done a lot of buyer research over the past year, and one of the things we learned is that newer members have some difficulty finding the most important information on the item page. Basically, we need to better organise some of the information at the top of the item page (the section above the item description).

Here's a rundown of what you'll see in the next few days:

"Meet The Seller” Section - We’re renaming the Seller Information area on the item page to "Meet The Seller." Most of the information will remain the same, except for a few visual changes to make it easier to read.

New "Buy Safely" area - Directly below Meet The Seller will be a Buy Safely section. Buyers expect to find trust-related information in one place, so here we'll list the seller's feedback information, any applicable protection programmes (such as whether the listing qualifies for PayPal Buyer Protection), and the seller's return policy, if specified.

Postage Information Higher on the Page - To make it easier to quickly determine the total cost of the item, we're moving the postage information up on the page, closer to the current item price.

Relocated Links - The Watch This Item and Email to a Friend links will be moved into the centre of the "blue" section. They’ll still work exactly as they do today – they're just in a different location.

Show/Hide Additional Listing Details - Additional listing details, such as the Starting Time and Duration, have been moved underneath the Watch This Item and Email to a Friend links. These will be hidden by default, but you can easily choose to display them if you wish. Plus, your choice will be "sticky," meaning that these will display (or stay hidden) as you move from item to item.

View the Changes
You might already have seen the changes on the site when you view an item. The changes will be rolling out over the next few days so keep an eye out.

Cheers,
Oliver

***eBay.ie: Return Policy Feature Coming Soon***

24 March, 2006 | 09:31AM GMT

In the next few days, we will introduce an improved way for sellers on eBay.ie to display their return policies on the Item page. Having a return policy helps build confidence for potential buyers and improves sales for sellers. This is a feature that has been previously available for eBay.co.uk sellers but is being extended to the eBay.ie site.

The new feature will provide a separate section on the Sell Your Item (SYI) form, where sellers can include details of their return policies. This will enable sellers to specify:

- whether they accept returns
- the time period for returning items and
- any additional details about the return policy

Sellers who take advantage of the new feature will have their return policies displayed in a designated section of the Item page. Using this feature is completely optional (although business sellers may have a legal obligation to provide a return policy). The new return policy section will not appear on the Item page if a seller chooses not to have a return policy.

We've heard from buyers that having and communicating an "easy, no-hassle" return policy was one of the most important changes an eBay seller could make to encourage buyers to shop more. We've found that sellers who clearly spell out their return policy have received better sales, on average, with only a minimum of actual returns. We hope these changes to the way the return policy is displayed will improve the eBay experience for both buyers and sellers.

Find out more about return policies here. Business sellers in Ireland can find out more about their obligations to provide a return policy here.

Regards,
The eBay.ie Team
