***Feedback Changes Announcement***

09 December, 2005 | 06:33PM GMT

Earlier in the year, we announced a number of changes to eBay’s Feedback that will address some of the key concerns members have about the feedback system (20th September Announcement ). The response from the Community to these changes was very positive and we are pleased to be able to update you on our progress.

1. Requiring new members to complete a tutorial before leaving neutral or negative feedback.
Beginning today, we will be requiring members who have 10 or less feedback to complete a brief tutorial before leaving their first neutral or negative feedback. The tutorial will educate new members about the feedback system as well as ensure that they are aware of the various communication tools available to them prior to leaving feedback for their trading partner.

In addition, we are updating the current page that all members see prior to leaving neutral or negative feedback. The updated page will emphasize the importance of communicating with your trading partner on eBay prior to leaving feedback. It will also urge members to make sure they have given their trading partner enough time to fulfil their obligations.

2. Removing feedback ratings (not comments) left by buyers who don't participate in the Unpaid Item process on eBay for an item.
Beginning today, we will automatically remove feedback ratings left by buyers who do not respond to the Unpaid Item process on eBay. This means the rating (whether positive, neutral or negative) will no longer affect the recipient's feedback score, although the feedback comment itself will remain. An administrative note from eBay will be added to the comment, indicating that the feedback rating was removed because the member did not participate in the Unpaid Item process on eBay. This is a global change and will affect all eBay sites.

The new policy only applies to unpaid item claims filed on or after Monday, December 5th (except for those that were filed on or after December 5th and were closed before the change was fully implemented on December 8th). Eligibility is based on the Unpaid Item filing date, not when the feedback was left.

This change, as well as the other recent enhancements we've made, ensures that the feedback system continues to be a credible measure of trust.

Regards
The eBay Team

***Updated: Clarification of Fees for Multiple Item Listings on eBay.co.uk and eBay.ie***

05 December, 2005 | 06:15PM GMT

As we previously announced (29th August and 29th September 2005) the maximum Insertion Fee for Multiple Auction Style Item (Dutch) and Fixed Price listings is £3 (€4.50 on eBay.ie), increased from £2 (€3 on eBay.ie). You can view the announcements here.

This increase came in to effect on 29th September but due to some technical issues, sellers may not have been charged the new fee from that date.

To avoid confusion, we would like to remind you that the correct maximum fee for Multiple Auction Style Item (Dutch) and Fixed Price listings is £3 (€4.50) rather than £2 (€3) and from this week we will be implementing a fix that will ensure that the correct fee is charged to sellers.

***Paying Safely: The Key to a Successful eBay Purchase***

01 December, 2005 | 06:10PM GMT

Choosing a safe payment method on eBay is critical when it comes to protecting yourself and your money. We’ve got lots of information on the site to help you make safe payment decisions: http://pages.ebay.co.uk/help/confidence/isgw-sending-payments.html.

In particular we strongly recommend that you DO NOT pay by instant cash transfer services (such as Western Union or MoneyGram) or cash because these methods are not secure. You can find out more here and here.

Very soon, we will be banning instant cash transfer services and cash (in most cases) as payment methods on eBay.co.uk. Under the new policy, sellers will not be allowed to ask buyers to send cash in the post or ask buyers to send payment through instant cash transfer services (non-bank, point-to-point cash transfers) such as Western Union or Moneygram.

If you want to find out more about trading safely on eBay you can find lots of tips and advice in our comprehensive Safety Centre.

***New: Enhancements to eBay Reviews and Guides***

01 December, 2005 | 03:29PM GMT

We are pleased to announce enhancements to eBay Reviews & Guides. To make Reviews & Guides even more helpful, each writer of a review or guide will have a User Content Page. f you find someone whose material you find really valuable, this page will let you see all the other reviews and guides they’ve written. You’ll be able to access each writer’s page from an icon next to any review or guide they write, and also from a link on their Member Profile page.

Another addition is called Reviewer Rankings. Since Reviews & Guides first launched, members have been able to rate reviews by how helpful they are. Those reviews that have been voted most helpful could reach “Top Review” status. Now reviewers themselves will get a special icon according to how often their content is voted helpful. For example, you could get an icon indicating you’re a “Top 25” reviewer, or “Top 1000”.

You can access Reviews & Guides at http://reviews.ebay.co.uk. Members who write Reviews & Guides can find them in My eBay, and can edit them at any time.

For more information about Reviews & Guides, please see our Information page at http://pages.ebay.co.uk/learn_more.html. These features will appear in the week beginning 5th December.
