***Item location Policy Clarification***

26 October, 2005 | 06:37PM BST

International trade has been an important part of eBay since it began in 1995. As eBay’s global marketplace continues to develop, it is essential that British and Irish buyers are able to make informed decisions when buying from sellers located in other countries.

We would like to remind all eBay members who trade on eBay.co.uk and eBay.ie of the terms and conditions contained in our User Agreement:

eBay.co.uk: http://pages.ebay.co.uk/help/policies/user-agreement.html
eBay.ie: http://pages.ebay.ie/help/policies/user-agreement.html

In particular, we would like to draw your attention to section 7.2a, which says that "Your information and your activities on the site must not be false, inaccurate or misleading."

This requirement applies particularly to the information provided by sellers in their listings, including the location of the item being sold. It is essential that buyers are able to identify clearly where an item is located so that they can estimate the likely delivery costs and time and make informed decisions about whether to purchase the item.

We will consider it a breach of section 7.2a of our User Agreement if sellers provide unclear or contradictory information about the location of their items in listings. For example, sellers may not have contradictory item locations and country locations, e.g.

Hong Kong, United Kingdom
Beijing, Ireland
Milwaukee, United Kingdom

Sellers may also not set their country location as 'United Kingdom' or 'Ireland' and then later mention in their item description that the item is located in or will be shipped from any other country.

We strongly encourage members to report to us any listings that appear to contravene section 7.2a of our User Agreement. We will investigate any reports received and take appropriate action, up to and including suspending the accounts of sellers who repeatedly breach the User Agreement.

You can report listings to us by clicking the ‘Contact Us’ button on the left of any Help page.

Regards,
The eBay.co.uk and eBay.ie teams

***eBay University will be Visiting Manchester This Weekend***

25 October, 2005 | 07:03PM BST

On Saturday the 29th October we will be holding an eBay University event in the great city of Manchester. For the second time eBay University will be a two-streamed event with different courses aimed at sellers with different needs.

The first is called 'Beyond the Basics' and is aimed at sellers who have sold a few things on eBay but would like to improve their selling skills. The day looks at marketing yourself on eBay, how to scale and then how to manage your eBay trading efficiently. You will also have the opportunity to meet eBay staff and fellow eBay sellers over lunch.

The second course is called the ‘All New Top Seller’ University and its content is designed for more advanced eBay sellers. You can choose from one of two classes, which run concurrently. One set of classes looks at business basics and is aimed at those sellers who would like to turn their selling into a full time business. Many of the sessions will be written and delivered by experienced business professionals from the Institute of Business Advisers. The other stream examines advanced eBay techniques and will be delivered by eBay Staff.

You can find out more about the courses and book a place here.

We look forward to seeing many of you on Saturday!

***Available Now: Reviews & Guides***

20 October, 2005 | 12:32PM BST

We are excited to announce the launch of eBay Reviews & Guides! eBay members have always shared information with each other, through discussion forums, Groups and more. Reviews & Guides make that sharing even easier – they allow you to write about a variety of topics which you have an interest in.

Reviews
Most of us have been in the situation where we want to buy something like a recently released CD, but would like to see what other people thought of it before making the purchase. Now with reviews, you'll be able to see what other people said about many products on eBay – or write about them yourself! At first you'll be able to review many products in the CDs and DVDs categories. As time goes on, we'll add more and more categories and products that you can review. You’ll also be able to vote on each reviews’ helpfulness, and the most popular reviews will reach “Top Review” status.

Guides
While reviews rate a specific product, you can write a guide about almost anything you want to share with other members. You can even include extra information like pictures and links within eBay. Have advice on how to start a coin collection? Want others to know which ‘80s movies are the greatest of all time? Write a guide and share your insights and knowledge. If you're a seller, write about your area of expertise to attract buyers to your area. Similar to reviews, readers can search for a guide on a certain topic area, and vote on whether they found it helpful. Plus, guides that are written by eBay will also be included here, marked with the eBay logo.

You can access Reviews & Guides at http://reviews.ebay.co.uk. Members who write Reviews & Guides can find them in My eBay, and can edit them at any time.

For more information about Reviews & Guides, please see our Information page at http://pages.ebay.co.uk/learn_more.html.

The eBay.co.uk Team

***eBay.ie: Item Specifics Feature Available in More Categories***

12 October, 2005 | 06:29PM BST

We are pleased to announce that Item Specifics is now available on eBay Ireland in the Men’s Clothing, Women’s Clothing and PDAs categories. This follows our previous release of Item Specifics in the Cars categories.

Item Specifics is an eBay feature that allows sellers to provide additional item details during the selling process. Buyers can then search using these item details, in addition to regular Title search and Description Search, thus finding the items they want with greater speed and ease.

eBay.ie sellers in these categories can distinguish their listings with additional details.

  • In Men’s and Women’s Clothing, they will be able to indicate things such as brand, size, style and colour.
  • In PDAs, the Item Specifics will include manufacturer, model series, memory and features.
This will make it easier for sellers to quickly include much of the information that buyers are seeking when making a purchase. Listings will be more complete and buyers can make a better informed decision.

For more information about Item Specifics, please refer to our FAQs:

Item Specifics will make finding items easier on eBay and help increase sales in the categories where the feature is enabled.

The eBay.ie Team

We are happy to announce that a new version of the eBay Toolbar is now available specifically for users of the www.ebay.ie.

The eBay Toolbar also has Account Guard, which helps protect your eBay account information. It warns you when you are on a potentially fraudulent (spoof) website and lets you report such sites to eBay. Best of all, the eBay Toolbar is free!

More information is available on help pages related to the eBay Toolbar and Account Guard.
