***Bid Assistant To Be Removed ***

September 11, 2008 | 05:19PM a SGT

As part of the ongoing efforts to simplify the site and remove features that have very low usage, eBay will be removing the Bid Assistant tool (which allowed buyers to bid on multiple similar items in succession) in the next few weeks.

The removal plan
Starting in late September, the links to Bid Assistant will be removed from item pages and from My eBay, and buyers will no longer be able to create new groups of items within the tool. If you have used the Bid Assistant tool recently, or will be using it in late September, here is how you will be affected:

  • If you have an active Bid Assistant group in late September: You will still see the link to Bid Assistant in My eBay, and will be able to view your groups of items within the tool. The Bid Assistant tool will also continue to bid on the items within each group as scheduled. However, you will not be able to add or remove items from a group, or alter your maximum bids. Since these groups will essentially be “locked” by late September, please make sure that you do not change anything within your Bid Assistant groups beforehand.
  • If you have a closed Bid Assistant group in late September: You will still be able to view your closed groups via the link in My eBay.

The Bid Assistant tool will then be removed from the site entirely in late September.

Regards,
The eBay Team

***Shop safely online with the eBay and PayPal Buyer Protection Programmes***

September 08, 2008 | 10:54AM a SGT

Having peace of mind goes a long way when you’re buying online. That’s why eBay and PayPal offer various types of buyer protection coverage for items you purchase on eBay. Coverage depends on where you purchase your item and how you pay for it. Read on to learn more about our buyer protection programmes.

Coverage for your eBay items purchased on eBay.com.sg:
eBay’s Standard Purchase Protection Programme (SPPP), covers qualified transactions on the eBay.com.sg site, except for items paid for with cash or instant money transfer services. The maximum coverage amount is up to SG$330, minus a SG$42 processing fee. Learn more about the eBay Standard Purchase Protection Programme.

Coverage for your eBay items purchased internationally (not on eBay.com.sg):
PayPal’s Buyer Protection Programme (PBP) is designed to cover your purchases on eBay international sites when you pay using PayPal. Maximum coverage amounts will vary and are based on the site where you purchased your item. To determine eligibility and coverage on your item(s), look for the PayPal logo in the ‘Buy Safely’ section of the item description page. Learn more about eligibility or coverage amounts.

New! Even More Coverage for Your International Purchases on eBay.com.au!
PayPal’s buyer protection coverage for items purchased on eBay.com.au has been increased from 3,000 AUD to 20,000 AUD for qualifying items paid with PayPal*. To know if your item is covered and get greater peace of mind, simply look for the ‘Buy Safely’ section when viewing your item on eBay.com.au.

***IMPORTANT: New Safe Payment Requirements on eBay.com***

September 05, 2008 | 10:34AM a SGT

Starting in late October, 2008, eBay.com will be moving to an electronic checkout process with 100% electronic payments.

What does this mean if I am selling items on eBay.com?
Paper methods of payments such as money orders and cheques will no longer be accepted on eBay.com. Only electronic forms of payment will be permitted - either PayPal or merchant credit card accounts.

This means that sellers listing items for sale on eBay.com will be able to offer secure bank transfers and credit/debit card payments though PayPal or offer credit card payments through their own merchant accounts. Additionally, both payment solutions have been integrated into the checkout process on eBay.com.

Why is eBay making these changes?
Moving to an electronic checkout process offers buyers and sellers a faster, more reliable, and better experience. Sellers will get paid quicker and be able to ship items faster. Buyers can receive their purchases faster.

And remember, for your buyers who use PayPal, we're backing eligible transactions with our buyer protection programme1, as a little confidence can go a long way to build trust and reliability.

Did you know?
Items paid on eBay.com with electronic payments are:

  • 80% less likely to result in an item not received (INR) claim than those paid with paper methods such as money orders2.
  • 50% less likely to result in negative feedback from buyers than payments made with paper methods2.

Two more reasons why payments via PayPal or merchant credit card accounts are better for your business and your buyers.

Do other eBay sites have safe payment policies?
Yes. For specific details by site, please click below or visit the site’s accepted payment policies directly:

  • For items being sold on eBay.com.au, click here.
  • For items being sold on eBay.co.uk, click here.
  • For more details on the eBay.com’s new policy, click here.

Safe selling on eBay!
