We at eBay strive to provide our members with an uncluttered shopping experience so they can compare different items and make a smart, informed purchasing decision.
As you are aware, to ensure that eBay provides a fair marketplace to all sellers, we have created the duplicate listing policy, which ensures sellers do not crowd the search results page with multiple duplicate listings.
In continuation to this journey of improving our Buyers search experience; we have made modification to the duplicate listing policy
The changed Duplicate Listing Policy shall be effective from 15 Oct 2012 @00:00:01 Hrs IST, where sellers will not be allowed to have multiple listing of one item for fixed price at any given time, through their eBay User IDs. In short listings are considered duplicates if they are for items that have no significant difference between them. To avoid having your listings treated as duplicates, make sure you clearly show the differences between items in the title, description, price, photo, subtitle, product ID, item specifics, or in the parts compatibility areas of a listing.
If the differences between the items you're selling aren't obvious in the search results, your listings may be treated as duplicates and subject to a range of other actions, including and/or removal of violating listings, limits on your selling privileges and suspension of your account.

This was launched in a few test categories, and based on the overwhelming response that we got from our sellers we will be extending this functionality to all categories effective June 27, 2012. With this change, you will be able to add your own item specifics and values to listings in any category on the site!

We understand that there are currently listings which still exist under the old item specific functionality (with no option for seller to add their own specifics). These listings will not get affected, and even the Good Till Cancelled listings will migrate to the new infrastructure.

For sellers using CSV upload for creating new listings, please download the new CSV file version compatible with this functionality for creating your listings.

Trust this new change will immensely improve your listing experience.

As another step forward in improving the selling experience on eBay India, we are making some changes in the item specifics that a seller can select while listing an item.

Currently, a seller has a given set of item specifics to choose from. In this new capability, sellers will be able to provide additional item specifics that they feel are applicable to their item.

In addition to aforesaid, sellers can also enter, within the item specifics, new values (which are not present in the current list) and they feel are applicable to the item.

We encourage our sellers to use these new capabilities to describe their items more accurately, and therefore, provide a great buying experience.

What else is changing…

3.            What are the scenarios when my feedback will be removed?

Dear Members,

We are pleased to inform you of a change in the eBay Guarantee Policy!

As you are aware, as a part of our continuous drive to provide best in class service to our members we have engaged with logistic services provider(s) to deliver return shipment facility to facilitate return of items from buyer to seller as per eBay Guarantee* policy in instances where the buyer is dissatisfied with the item received from the seller.  Hitherto, ‘Return shipment’ provided the option to the buyer to have the item picked up from the buyer’s location and to deliver the same to the seller’s address, as per eBay Guarantee* policy. This initiative was well appreciated by our community and based on their feedback we are now expanding this benefit to ensure all return shipments are sent through the Logistic Service Providers. This will save the hassle of shipping the item and sending the Proof of Delivery (POD) to receive the refund for the shipping amount. Currently, this service is only available in areas serviceable by the Logistic Service Providers.

However, for location(s) that are outside the scope of serviceable area(s) for the logistics service provider, buyers were required to return the items to the sellers using services of other logistics service providers. In such cases, eBay offered to reimburse respective buyers to the extent of the actual amount spent by such buyers on returning the item to the seller(s). This reimbursement was done through cheque/ DD as per eBay Guarantee* policy.  

We have observed that the process of reimbursement through cheques/DD as mentioned above was inconvenient, as it took longer for buyers to get the reimbursement.

With a view to make the reimbursement process more convenient to the buyers, effective April 12, 2012, we will issue to the eBay buyer who avails the services of another logistics services provider, an eBay coupon equivalent to or more than the actual amount spent by the buyer in returning the item to the Seller.

We will make the requisite changes in the eBay Guarantee* policy for return of shipment to the locations currently non-serviced by eBay engaged logistic service.  Please note that as per process, buyers will ship the item to the seller and send us a valid Proof of Dispatch (POD). After receiving this POD, we will issue an eBay Coupon as above and email the same to the buyer’s registered email address. Buyer can then redeem this eBay Coupon to purchase on www.eBay.in.

So, no more waiting for the shipping amount to be reimbursed or visiting the bank to encash your Cheque / DD. Just pure, hassle free shopping from anywhere, anytime!

There are certain changes which are happening on other eBay sites, which will be impacting sellers selling on those sites. Here's an overview of these changes:

FREE pictures for all!

Starting in July, all sellers get FREE pictures—12 per listing—including free zoom and enlarge. Lots of great pictures translate to more sales, so get ready to load up!

Top-rated seller program rewards listings with prompt shipping and returns
Savvy online merchants understand that consumer expectations are evolving, and they are adapting their businesses to compete. Now the eBay Top-rated seller program is also evolving to keep pace, placing the focus on listings that offer prompt shipping and returns.

  • Starting in June, to be eligible for Top-rated seller status, tracking information needs to be uploaded to eBay within your stated handling time on 90% of transactions with US buyers. Start uploading tracking information by May 1 to make sure you qualify by June 20.
  • Starting June 1, those listings from Top-rated sellers that include 1-day handling and a14-day or longer return policy with a money-back option will get the greatest average boost in exposure and 20% final value fee discounts. Listings that don’t include these services will continue to get some boost in Best Match and the Top-rated seller badge, but not the 20% discount or greatest average boost.
  • Bonus discount nowAs an extra reward to help you get started offering these in-demand services now, from March 1 through May 31, Top-rated sellers will get a bonus 5% discount off final value fees—along with their current 20% discount—for all listings with 1-day handling and a minimum 14-day return window with money-back option.
  • To include sellers of more sizes who offer great service, the annual sales requirement for Top-rated sellers will be lowered to $1,000.

Safeguards protect your record of great service
New seller protections help ensure that your seller performance ratings and Feedback are the best possible reflection of the great service you provide:

  • Get an automatic 5-star Communications rating for transactions where you offer same-day or 1-day handling, upload tracking information by the end of the next business day, and there is no communication between you and the buyer.
  • Feedback left by a buyer with an unpaid item recorded for the transaction will be automatically removed from your record.
  • Earlier this year, eBay started displaying an automatic message on the item page to buyers outside the US regarding customs-related delays and duties. Now any Feedback from international buyers that only references customs issues is eligible for removal.

Improving your efficiency and profitability

  • Apply payment, shipping, and return policies to multiple listings with just a few clicks.  With an optional new way to manage your business policies, you can create custom settings and apply them to all your listings or groups of listings quickly and easily.
  • Shipping updates
    • Same-day handling time—Stand out from the crowd when you ship the same day for orders received by your specified order cut-off time. Same-day and 1-day handling are both considerations for Best Match ranking.
    • USPS® First-Class Package service will be reclassified from an Expedited to Standard service. Take advantage of the savings this service offers—and set the right delivery expectations for your buyers.
    • For listings with 3-day or longer handling, buyers will see a message on the item page that the item may take longer than 3 days to ship.
  • Returns
    • A good return policy—including a reasonable timeframe and the reassurance that buyers can get their money back—helps you sell. Starting the first week of May, the 3-day and 7-day return windows and “Merchandise credit” and “Exchange” refund options will be retired. As always, you can still specify “No returns accepted,” but keep in mind that offering a good return policy can help your sales.
    • An optional new way to manage returns virtually automates the process according to the terms you specify. Your buyer simply clicks a link in My eBay to print a pre-paid shipping label. When you get the item back, simply click a button to issue the refund. Your final value fees are automatically refunded.
  • New listing guidelines
    • Quality pictures can make all the difference in enticing a buyer to choose your item over the rest. Starting this fall, all listings will be required to have a picture, and all photos must be at least 500 pixels on the longest side with no added borders or text (watermarks okay).
    • Best Match, eBay’s default sort order, will begin looking at more information from your listing—including your item description—to rank search results. Item specifics, product codes like UPCs and ISBNs, brand, part numbers, and other descriptors will also be increasingly important to get your listing found by more interested buyers.
    • Reducing the number of duplicate listings for an identical item from the same seller has paid off. It’s made it easier for buyers to find what they want—and significantly increased exposure and sales for more sellers. Now Auction-style listings with a Buy It Now option will be treated as Fixed Price listings under eBay’s Duplicate Listing policy—only one of identical items can be listed at a time.
  • Category and other updates
    • Starting May 1, the maximum final value fee for Standard Auction-style listings will be $250. (Note, this change only impacts transactions of more than $1,111.00 for sellers who do not have an eBay Stores subscription).
    • Electronics & Technology: To make it easier for buyers to find your products, listing with the eBay catalog will be required in more consumer electronics categoriesincluding DVD & Blu-ray Players, Home Theater Receivers, Home Speakers & Subwoofers, Home Theater Systems, and Home Theater Projectors.
  • Motors Parts & Accessories and Vehicles: To focus squarely on the best, most relevant listings, some optional listing features will be retired—Border, Highlight, Featured Plus!, and Listing Icon in Parts & Accessories and Motors Home Page Featured in Motors Vehicles.
  • Category and item specific updates: Look for updates in Clothing, Shoes & Accessories, Coins, Computers & Networking, Consumer Electronics, eBay Motors, Home & Garden, Toys, and Jewelry & Watches (Category adjustments in Watches only). Find out how your listings are affected.

We wish to inform you that we have gone ahead and fixed the issues for remittance which were not happening on the next day for the shipping details entered by the buyer confirming it on Sunday’ & Wednesdays before a particular time (we are trying to minimize the time period).

As you are aware, we started the Community Review Forum (CRF) to provide sellers a platform to have their unjust feedback reviewed by community members.

In May 2011, we implemented “Seller Standards” and began evaluating seller performance based on low DSRs, instead of neutral/negative feedback. In addition to this, we also added new criteria and revised feedback removal policies with a view to enable sellers to have their feedback reviewed and acted upon as appropriate.

In view of the above mentioned changes, we have noticed that the need for Community Review Forum (CRF) to appeal for unjust feedback has reduced significantly. Hence, in the current scenario we have decided to discontinue the Community Review Forum (CRF).

Accordingly, the last day for sellers to file a request for removal of unjust feedback in the CRF will be 11.59.59 pm on January 31, 2012.

We are pleased to announce the launch of new and improved Cash On Delivery (COD) payment facility with effect from September 26, 2011 for certain short listed sellers. The current release incorporates many valuable suggestions received from our users and is aimed at delivering a seamless COD experience for eBay users.

Key changes in the process:

  • Improved tracking of packages through pre-allotted Airway Bill (AWB) numbers by the logistics partner (Aramex).
    • All COD orders will be allotted an AWB number to ensure end-to-end tracking of packages
    • Bar-coded AWB will be printed on the shipping label to rule out errors in manual data entry
  • Daily reconciliation of COD order status with logistics partner will be done by eBay to ensure timely remittance of money to sellers
    • Money will be remitted to sellers within a maximum limit of 21 days of delivery of the item to the buyer(s).
  • Easier order management process
    • No need for sellers to manually enter shipping details for COD orders in eBay system.
  • eBay branded packing material and tapes will be provided free of cost to sellers for COD shipments.
  • Maximum COD order value can be Rs.15,000 (increased from the current Rs.8,000)

To ensure a smooth rollout, COD will be in a pilot phase for the first few weeks. During this period few shortlisted sellers will be able to list with COD. Post the pilot phase we may allow other sellers to list their items with COD as payment facility. The process for inclusion in the COD sellers list will be communicated post the pilot phase. We have informed the shortlisted sellers of their inclusion.

We have kept the COD pricing unchanged during the pilot phase (i.e. 5% of order amount with a minimum of Rs.125, excluding taxes). In pilot phase, COD will be available to buyers in 98 cities.

Over the last 1 year, we have observed that PaisaPay Refund policy has helped reduce refunds significantly,  which resulted in better buyer experience on site. However we also saw few instances where sellers had to initiate INRs due to unavoidable circumstances for which they were initially penalized, though they received credits for the same in the subsequent month. From Selling experience, the existing process was not ideal and created overheads.

Based on our experience over the past 1 year and your valuable feedback, we have made certain policy changes to the PaisaPay Refund penalty policy.

Effective November 1, 2011, PaisaPay Refund Penalty will not be applicable for Item Not Received initiated by sellers within 48 hours of payment confirmation & hence will not be considered while computing the PaisaPay refund rate for the month.

This policy change will ensure that INR initiated by sellers due to reasons beyond their control are not penalized by providing a 48 hour window for sellers to initiate INR after payment confirmation.

Having said that, the existing process of Seller appeal (to receive credits) against penalties charged for PaisaPay refund transactions which may due to uncontrollable situations but may not be exempted by the above process still continues.

Dear Members,

The online shopping world has changed significantly over the past few years with introduction of easy payment modes; Mobile based shopping and new technology. Members today are more internet savvy and their expectations from online shopping  are also higher now.

Continuing our pursuit to improve member experience and making it as attractive as possible for end users, we are revising PaisaPay shipping and delivery timelines. The changes shall be applicable after 30 days from today. The current timelines were set in 2007 and it was necessary for us to modify them to meet the expectations of our users in today’s dynamic online shopping world. We believe the revised PaisaPay timelines will improve the overall member experience.

The revised PaisaPay timelines are as follows:

  • Timelines for sellers to enter shipping details in PaisaPay is changed from 7 days to 5 days
    • The revised shipping timelines will enable buyers to get their products faster. In turn, it will increase buyer satisfaction and hence  sellers’ chances of receiving more business and more positive feedback from buyers
  • Timelines for delivering products to the buyer post entering shipping details is changed from 10 days to 7 days
    • We observed that most products are generally delivered within 7 days of shipment, and these changes will allow sellers to receive their remittance faster

We are revising relevant policies to bring the aforesaid changes and the same shall be applicable  from September 27, 2011 and all payments from September 27, 2011 shall be as per the revised PaisaPay timelines as mentioned above.

Continuing our pursuit to improve our mobile web experience and making it as compelling as possible for end users, we are extremely pleased to announce the launch of eBay India Mobile Web Phase 2.

As part of this release, we have taken a strong step towards streamlining the mobile buying process, and making the experience similar to what our buyers are used to on the web. Buyers can now sign-in to their eBay Accounts on m.ebay.in and pay for an item using PaisaPay (using Credit Card or COD as payment options).

Buyers can also view their purchase history, watch items and share items that they are interested in with their friends and families.

For sellers, this release streamlines the order management process significantly. Sellers can now view orders in their My PaisaPay dashboards available on web itself (along with their web orders), placed by buyers on m.ebay.in and would not need to manage the same though a separate mobile order tool.

Dear members,

As a step forward in enabling buyers and sellers to get the best price for items transacted on eBay.in, we are launching the ‘Best Offer’ option in the Watches and Jewellery & Diamonds categories. We will soon be extending this option to other categories, and will keep you updated on the same.

Salient features of Best Offer:

  1. Will enable sellers, who list in the Fixed Price format to allow buyers to quote the best price that they are willing to buy the item for
  2. Sellers can choose to evaluate each offer from each buyer and either accept or decline, else, they can choose a threshold offer price (quoted by the buyers) below which the buyer’s offer will be automatically declined
  3. Each buyer will be able to make upto 3 offers for a particular item, thereby providing further room for negotiation and better price realization

Best Offer flow:

  1. When listing an item in the Fixed Price format, you will get an additional option of Best Offer. Check the box if you wish you enable this option for your listing
  2. On checking the box, you will see 2 options for accepting/declining buyers’ offers. You may choose the first option if you want to review each offer and decide to accept/decline. Else, you can choose option 2, and enter the minimum price (in the Offer price box) below which the offers will be auto declined

We are confident that this will be a great value addition to the buying as well as selling experience on eBay.in, especially in case of multi quantity listings, where the buyer and seller can negotiate the price basis quantity to be bought.

      • Branded Face Care products post usage
    • Branded Perfumes & Fragrances post usage

      • Books
      • Movies & Music DVD/ CD post usage
      • Technical defects in products for which a manufacturer warranty is valid
      • Motor vehicles (2 wheelers, 4 Wheelers, commercial vehicles)
      • Any product sold basis personal inspection by Buyer
    • There will be no eBay Guarantee* protection coverage for transactions where the payments have been or are made through non eBay acceptable payment policy.

The new eBay Guarantee* policy as mentioned above will be applicable for items purchased on eBay India on or after July 15, 2011.

Also please note that for items purchased on eBay India post August 7, 2011, claim payout for payments made by other than under PaisaPay but within the eBay accepted payment method will be limited to INR 10,000/-

Return shipping – This process will facilitate the return of items from the buyer to the seller. eBay has tied up with AFL logistics to enable pick up of the item from the buyer and return it back to the seller for item not as described claims raised by Buyer in eBay Guarantee* . The benefits we expect to see

o No delays in processing of claims due to timely shipment

What’s more, this service comes free of cost and is just a call away. While it is an option for buyers to use the eBay designated courier service they still have the option to handling the returns by themselves. This process is operational and can be opted for. Click here to know more details.

eBay Guarantee* policy enhancements - Basis the experience from the current program and coverage offered by other Retail sites we are making certain modification to the eBay Guarantee* Policy which would eliminate the current challenges of covering Personal care items such as Body care and Hygiene products, Undergarments, Movies and Music DVD / CS post usage etc under eBay Guarantee*. Keep watching this space for further details.

Enhancement to PaisaPay seller remittance payout cycle – We have done certain process changes such that the remittance done on Monday’s and Thursday’s have a higher chance to get credited into the sellers account on the same day. We have already done the pilots to check whether it is working as expected or not and now we are positive that most sellers will have their amounts credited on the same day. We will monitor this closely and will continue to improve if the amounts are not getting credited on the same day.

Integrated Help pages and Customer Support – With integration of the current help pages and the contact us section we would now be able to offer the following to our buyers and sellers

o Ability to help you quickly find most common questions and answers

o Integrated Self Service System with the ability to contact Customer Service

o Quick and relevant information for searches

o Effective classification helping you browser and look for relevant and quick help on the topic

In our continuous drive to make eBay a preferred online marketplace and basis various feedback received we have undertaken some changes in our processes
which I expect will enhance the selling experience on eBay:
  1. TnS phone support
  2. Return shipping for eBay Guarantee*
  3. Seller standards
  4. Community review forum enhancements

TnS Phone Support – We have made two significant enhancements to our phone support offering the facility to seller to call and also the team reaching out to sellers when listing policy violation is noticed.

  1. Inbound toll free phone support - The T&S team is now a call away to address your questions concerns related to feedback, site policies, activity limits or account restrictions. We recognize your need to be able to speak with T&S team directly and this service initiative will help you discuss and get quick resolution & guidance on T&S.
  2. TnS calls on listing policy violations - Understanding site policies is critical to the sellers business. To help sellers improve understanding of policies we have started calling sellers to explain violations for the listed items. This process will help sellers to better understand the policy, seek clarification during the call and the chance to correct their listings that minimize listing violations done due to lack of knowledge. This process has already been initiated for few policies and we are working to cover most of our policies.

Return Shipping – Most sellers currently offer returns and item replacement. During the resolution process under eBay Guarantee* we have observed that the resolution offered by the seller replacement is getting delayed due the buyers not returning the item to seller. The option to leverage the eBay Return Shipping under eBay Guarantee* will enable buyers to ship the item faster and in turn help the seller to resolve the dispute. We expect to make this service operational by early June 2011 and will be making a separate announcement giving more details on the process.

Seller Standards – The evaluation criteria of the existing sellers’ non performance (SNP) has been replaced by a new set of guidelines referred to as Seller Standards effective 20th May 2011. The key changes are

  • With Seller standards Sellers will now be evaluated on a Monthly basis ( currently this is weekly process) which gives our seller community time to work with the buyer and revise the feedback received
  • Sellers will also be evaluated on their overall transactions (whether or not the feedback was left i.e. if feedback is not received at the time of evaluation, the transaction will be deemed good)
  • Sellers will not be impacted by neutral or negative feedback unless it is associated with a low DSR
Along with the above stated benefits, sellers may now check the New Seller Dashboard to see a snapshot of their DSRs. Please see the full details on the announcement of Seller Standard here

Community Review Forum – Enhancements to the Community review forum would now enable buyers to choose to remove the negative feedback shared. By clicking “Remove feedback” the voting procedure ceases and the feedback is removed instantly.

2. Launch of Best Match on other categories on eBay India ---Making Search on eBay more relevant for buyers

To provide improved relevance in the Search experience for buyers, we had already rolled out the ‘Best Match’ sort logic as the default sort option in select categories (as compared to Time end soon sort logic that exists as the default today) - Consumer Electronics [293], Mobile Phones [15032] and Laptops & Computer Peripherals [160] earlier.

In the last few months we have seen Best Match in these categories and are encouraged by the positive uplift in transactions. As such we are planning to launch Best Match across all other categories with a few exceptions being:

  • Apparel & Accessories (11450)
  • Jewellery & Diamonds (281)
  • Collectibles (1)

With the launch of Best Match, search algorithm that computes the priority for display of listings will be influenced by multiple parameters some of which are:

  • Title & Category relevance: The system will assess how relevant Item Title is to the search query; basis past search & purchase history and more relevant listings will be given greater priority. For example, for search query “iPod Shuffle”, iPOD shuffle listings will be given more priority compared to accessories
  • Buyer Experience provided by the seller: The Seller’s past performance in delivering to buyer expectations (measured through DSRs)

Q. What do sellers need to do to benefit from Best Match:

To ensure sellers on eBay India are able to fully leverage the benefits offered by Best Match, we would advise you to follow the below guidelines:

  • Deliver high quality service to buyers and maintain high DSR’s through accurate listing descriptions, prompt & proactive communication with buyers, and reasonable shipping costs and time
  • Ensure that you list your items in the right category with the most appropriate item title to attract the right buyers
  • Create detailed, accurate & attractive listing descriptions which can increase your quantity sold and classify your listing as more popular than others
  • List multiple quantities of an item in the same listing. Item popularity as determined by quantity sold and a few other factors influences the sort order. Do not create duplicate / multiple listings of the same item

Q. How can I know how well my listings are performing in Best Match?

The Best Match Visibility Tool, which will soon be accessible to sellers in their ‘My eBay’ page, will help sellers review the performance of their listings against the Best Match sort order. We will be enabling this for all our sellers in the coming weeks.

3. Introducing Phone Support for Trust & Safety

Based on our sellers’ feedback and requirements, we are pleased to announce the launch of inbound phone support for all Trust & Safety related questions, queries, concerns, comments from Friday, May 13, 2011.

This support is available Monday to Saturday, from 9:30 am to 6:30 pm through our toll free number 1800 – 209 – 3229 by choosing Option 2 on the selling menu.

Q. Can I get assistance related to account suspension or account restriction?

Yes. Our Trust & Safety agents will help you review the reason of suspension and guide you with the next steps immediately.

Q. Can I use the phone support to address my questions related to site policies?

***Changes in State Bank of India (SBI) Debit card payments***

State Bank Group has now made it mandatory to use a 3D Secure Code/Password for its ATM cum debit cards too. SBI’s ATM cum Debit Card is normally a Maestro Card and we have earlier seen that this is the most used card for online booking. From now on, if you want to use your State Bank ATM cum Debit Card (SBI, SBH, SBM etc) for online shopping, apart from inputting your 4 digit PIN, you also have to enter the 3D Secure Password to complete the transaction.

To get your Maestro card's 3D security password, you can either visit any State Bank ATM or do it online.

At ATM, insert your card and select ‘Mobile Registration for SMS/ Secure Code’ to register your mobile number and follow the instructions as directed.

In line with our ongoing efforts to improve buying experience on the eBay India site, we are pleased to announce Guest Checkout. This new initiative will allow first time buyers to transact on site without having to register. This will enable more visitors to try out buying on the site.

What is Guest Checkout (GXO)?

For a first time visitor on eBay.in, the process involved in completing a purchase requires multiple steps. Guest Checkout attempts to make the process completely linear by removing registration steps within the buying flow.

• Enable visitors to Buy on eBay.in without having to register
• Reduce the steps in buying process for new buyers

How does Guest Checkout work?

1. On clicking Buy It Now the user is taken to the Sign-in page where the user can opt for a Guest Checkout or can choose to register by clicking on Register

2. Select Shipping Method

The guest buyer can provide the contact and shipping details on the select shipping method page

3. Paisapay Payment Page

Subsequently the guest buyer will need to verify the SMS code before proceeding

  • Guest buying needs a mobile number and email id that are not already present on the system
  • Can use the only same email Id-phone number combination while repeating a Guest purchase
  • Users to verify their mobile number by confirming code sent to them via SMS on every guest purchase
  • Guest buyers can purchase via Paisapay, Paisapay EMI and Paisapay COD depending on eligibility in the listing
  • Guest buyers will receive order related updates primarily via SMS
  • A Guest buyer does not have access to My eBay and My Paisapay and will not have a password to access their account till the point they register on eBay
  • A Guest buyer cannot leave feedback for the seller however sellers can leave feedback for the Guest buyer. On registering with the same email id as was used for a Guest transaction, a Guest buyer can leave feedback for a purchase that is available in My eBay (upto 60 days from transaction date)
  • Guest buyer can accept or reject time extensions and indicate item receipt via SMS
  • Guest buyers are covered under eBay Guarantee* and can raise a guarantee claim through Customer Service
  • Guest buyer will receive an email when sellers can get in touch with “Contact Buyer”

Guest user registration

Guest users can convert to registered ebay users to enjoy all the benefits of eBay like having access to your account, being able to bid on items etc. They may do so by providing registration details and confirming their email address at the end of the transaction or from the registration page.

Shipping method auto selection

In addition to Guest Checkout, a minor enhancement in the form of Shipping Method auto selection also launches at the same time. This helps buyers by auto selecting the cheapest shipping method basis the payment method and shipping address. Currently this option is available for Buy It Now only.

These changes are expected to go live to site on May 12, 2011. The changes in eBay Privacy policy for this project are available here. These would replace the current privacy policy when the project goes live on site. Further there would be non-substantial changes in the eBay User Agreement, PaisaPay User Agreement and other related policies to incorporate changes due to Guest Checkout functionality which will go live when the project goes live on site.

In order to better serve our users we have updated/changed some of our key policies, viz.:

o Feedback removal policy

o Seller Protection policy

o Acceptable payment policy

Feedback Removal Policy

We receive constant feedback from our Seller community regarding redressing unfair feedback they receive. To ensure that Sellers do not get negatively impacted when they are not at fault, we have modified the feedback removal policy to include additional guidelines under which feedbacks can be removed.

They are as under:

- Negative or neutral feedback left by the buyer, for technical defect in the product which is covered under valid manufacturer’s warranty/ guaranty and where seller has provided the item warranty card/VAT inclusive invoice which is required by the buyer to avail such warranty/ guarantee from the manufacturer/supplier as the case may be

- Negative or neutral feedback left by the buyer, due to delay in item delivery which was caused by circumstances beyond the seller’s control such as bad weather conditions, natural calamity, change in Government rules / policies, strikes

- Negative or neutral feedback left by buyer, for non shipment of the item, where:

o The Item was shipped to the buyers shipping address but the item was returned undelivered back to seller by the shipment company because of non availability of buyer to receive delivery of shipment

o The Item was not shipped as the buyer was from a non serviceable location, applicable only in cases where the seller has clearly mentioned non-serviceable locations in his listings.

Currently eBay Seller protection policy protects Sellers against

- Loss due to Fraud Charge backs

- Loss arising out of refunds in eBay Guarantee* when Seller is classified of not being at fault.

Sellers will additionally be covered against chargeback’s raised by Buyers from today onwards for Item not received, if they satisfy the conditions laid out in the policy. For more details kindly refer eBay Seller Protection Policy

Accepted Payments policy

Our Accepted Payments policy helps to ensure that buyers are offered safe, convenient payment options. Sellers may offer one or more of the following payment choices to its buyers:

• PaisaPay

• PaisaPay Cash on delivery

• Demand Draft / Cheque

• Buyer Picks and Pays

Policy changes – Direct cash deposit and non-PaisaPay Online Bank Transfer will not be permitted

It is observed that Sellers offer payment options which are not only against Safe & eBay accepted payments but may potentially lead to bad buyer experiences as Buyers are unable to track the status of their payments in case of disputes. Hence, effective May 10, 2011 00:00:01 Hrs IST, Sellers are expected to offer only eBay accepted payment methods to its buyers. Listings which provide payment options other than eBay accepted payments will be treated as violation and action shall be initiated against seller/ listing accordingly. Few of the non accepted payment methods are as under

• Asking buyers to directly online transfer monies to the seller's bank account (without going through PaisaPay)

• Asking buyers to directly deposit cash in to the seller’s bank account

• Asking buyers to pay through Money Order

The above said non accepted payment method list is merely indicative and not exhaustive.

To help our buyers quickly find the product that they are looking for, we are introducing some changes in search experience on eBay for standardized products. To start with, the changes will be introduced in product lines of “iPOD” and “MP3 players”. Gradually the changes may be rolled on to other technology categories like Mobile Phones, Digital Cameras etc.

The New Search Experience: Introducing Hybrid Search results page

Today, on typing keyword “iPod”, a buyer sees results that are a mix of gadgets and accessories. With hybrid search result, when he searches for “iPod” The new hybrid search results page will include 2 sections

  1)Products (SKU’s that are mapped to the keyword searched)
  2)Listings

1)Products Section:

As you can notice in the above image the buyer will first see all the available SKUs (iPod Touch, Classic, Nano, etc) along with a count of listings available, and the Lowest New Fixed Price for the SKU (from the available live listings on eBay.in). The above SKU groups will be based on listing category, keyword and other attributes as defined by the seller. This section will also help the buyer compare products and shall also showcase expert reviews that will help the buyer with purchase decision.

2)Search Results
Below the list of SKU’s, the listings that match the keyword will be displayed (same as the current Search Results page).

At this point, the user can either click on the Products (SKU’, as mentioned in point 1) and view details of that SKU along with listings for that SKU, or directly view any of the listings displayed in the Search Results section (as mentioned in point 2). There will also be a left navigation panel, that will help the buyer narrow his search further.

What happens when buyer clicks on any of the product SKU?

Clicking on any of the Products (SKU’s) will take the buyer to a new Product Details Page. The product details page will include the following:   ▪Catalog information about the product including key highlights and detailed specifications
  ▪Product rating and reviews
  ▪Easy access to other variants of the product

  ▪5 listings of seller(s) shall be displayed based on Best match sort to enable buyers to initiate a purchase after they have done the research. The first listing in Best match will be highlighted as the top pick based on Best Match sort.

***Launching new Seller Standards for eBay.in sellers***

Dear Members,

Consistently delivering to great buyer experiences is a key driver towards business growth. At eBay, to ensure our sellers deliver to a great shopping experience, we continuously evaluate our sellers' performance on site.

Performance of sellers on eBay India is currently evaluated basis the Seller Non Performance Policy [click here to know more]

However, starting 20th May 2011, the evaluation criteria for our sellers’ performance will be replaced by a new set of guidelines referred to as Seller Standards. The new standards aim to give sellers recognition, insights and the help they need to improve and grow their business.

With launch of new Seller Standards, eBay will consider low DSR’s as key constituents to deficiency in sellers being able to provide expected product / service to buyers. Hence we have shifted away from evaluating sellers basis neutral and negative feedbacks to evaluating sellers basis the low DSR they receive for their transactions.

Additionally, with Seller Standards, sellers will now be evaluated on all their transaction, whether the feedback for the transaction was received or not (i.e. if feedback is not received at the time of evaluation, the transaction will be deemed good).

Through Seller Standards, eBay expects its sellers to have a very low amount (within set thresholds) of 1 or 2 stars on the Detailed Seller Rating score. To meet the minimum performance standards, sellers need to satisfy either one of the below requirements:

• The minimum DSR percentage rate; or

• The minimum DSR count

If both the DSR percentage rate and the DSR count are not meeting the minimum requirements, then the expected level of service from an eBay seller isn't being met. Until their ratings improve, sellers who fall below the minimum standard may face a number of consequences including demotion in search and restrictions in selling activity or even suspension.

We are also enhancing the Seller Dashboard so as to provide you more detailed information regarding the sales you have done with buyers in India and abroad. This will give you the opportunity to identify your areas of improvement.

Why are we moving to Seller Standards?

To put more emphasis on quality and to reward and recognize sellers who create great buyer experiences. Through Seller Standards, eBay will now consider the rate of low DSRs received by a seller – specifically 1s and 2s – as a way to assess the quality of buyer experiences the seller provides. All sellers will be expected to have low rates of 1s and 2s.

How is Seller Standards more beneficial than Seller Non Performance Policy?

• Unlike SNP policy which was used to identify & restrict sellers who do not meet buyers' expectations, Seller Standards works on rewarding sellers through increased visibility / recognition ensuring growth in their business on eBay

• With SNP policy, sellers were evaluated only basis known transactions (i.e. where buyer has provided feedback / raised dispute), while with Seller Standards sellers will be evaluated on their overall transactions (whether or not the feedback was left)

• While SNP used to evaluate sellers on a weekly basis, in Seller Standards sellers will be evaluated on a monthly basis which provides the seller an opportunity to work with the buyer and revise the feedback received

• To ensure all sellers are fairly evaluated, sellers will be evaluated basis their volume of business

o For sellers with 400 or more transactions, evaluation period will be last 3 months

o For sellers with less than 400 transactions, evaluation period will be last 12 months

New Seller Dashboard

From May 2011, you will be able see a snapshot of your DSRs in your Seller Dashboard, including your low DSRs (1s and 2s) and your average DSRs. This snapshot will be updated monthly. You can also use DSR reports to see your total counts of 1s and 2s. To get this view, log into your Seller Dashboard and click the link at the top. You should be able to see a preview of this new dashboard within the next two days.

Sellers will be able to see the orders received from eBay India Mobile through a new interface which shall be shared by Customer Service.

During the BETA phase, m.ebay.in orders will not be visible in My eBay and My PaisaPay. You would be intimated of their order through email /call and can fulfill the order by entering the shipping details on a Seller Interface provided for this purpose. Detailed instructions on the exact steps to fulfill the order would be shared with you when we receive an order for an item that has been listed by you.

Over the next couple of months, we would be looking at adding the sign-in support to this solution, so as to provide buyers with an end-to-end experience of buying on their mobile devices.

Basis the regular feedback we received from our community members, we are making significant changes to the existing Community Court to better fulfill the objective of keeping feedback fair.

The revamped Community Court will be now called Community Review Forum (CRF) and along with the below mentioned changes, will be effective from 3rd Jan 2011, 00:00:01 Hrs (IST):

However during this time, existing cases filed in Community Court will be processed normally as per existing Community Court process and timelines.

CRF shall be effective from 3rd January 2011 @00:00:01 Hrs for filing new appeals. In case there are open cases in Community Court post 2nd January 2011 23:59:59 Hrs (IST), they will be migrated to CRF basis the new guidelines mentioned above.

***Changes to penalty clause for policy on 'PaisaPay - Item not received, money refunded' cases.***

Dear Sellers,

On 5th of October we had announced a change in PaisaPay policy to penalise sellers who were creating bad buyer experience by refunding the money to buyers.

The policy stated "eBay will levy a penalty to all sellers whose PaisaPay refund rate (Auto refund + Seller initiated refund) is greater than 2% of PaisaPay transaction. This penalty will be up to Rs. 250 or 4% of PaisaPay amount whichever is higher for all refunds greater than 2%. This amount will be then sent to the buyer in form of a coupon."

Taking into account the community feedback that we have received on the policy, we have made some revisions to the above mentioned PaisaPay policy to accommodate exceptions that are outside of a seller’s control. This revised policy while ensures that sellers are not charged for cases outside of their control, also ensures that buyers who have had a bad experience on eBay, will be made good.

What is the revised policy?
Sellers will be levied a penalty @ 4% of PaisaPay amount (subject to minimum of Rs. 100 & Max of Rs. 250 per approved transaction) if their monthly PaisaPay INR rate is above 4%

Which INR’s are considered for this policy?
All PaisaPay INR’s which are approved will be considered. (i.e. System initiated, Seller initiated & Buyer initiated).

When will the policy be applicable from?
This policy shall continue to be applicable on all PaisaPay transactions on or after 1st November.

Are there any exemptions to this policy?
Sellers will not be levied any penalty if they satisfy any of the following conditions:
• If the approved INR rate is less than 4%
• If the Approved INR transaction for the month is 2 or less
• If the monthly PaisaPay transaction is less than 10

If the sellers approved INR rate is more than 4%, will he be levied for all approved INR’s?
Sellers will be levied penalties for approved INR which are greater than 4% of month transactions. i.e. if the seller has 100 monthly PaisaPay transactions and has 10 approved INR, then he will be levied a penalty for 6 approved INR transactions.

How will the policy be implemented?
The policy will be implemented manually on monthly basis and seller PaisaPay account will be debited by second week of next month. E.g. Penalties applicable for INRs approved in the month of November will be levied to the sellers PaisaPay account by second week of December.

Shipping and handling charges is one of the important aspects that a buyer considers while buying on eBay. Data has shown that Free / standardized shipping charges help improve buyer confidence and seller’s sales. However, when buyers see unreasonable shipping charges, they spend less overall. To help right-price and bring about increased standardization in the shipping and handling charges, a limit on maximum shipping and handling charges are being introduced in the following categories. These changes will be applicable from 11th October 2010:

These limits are applicable to all domestic shipping methods:
▪Flat Rate Courier – Delivery anywhere in India
▪Local Courier – Delivery within a seller’s city
▪National courier – Delivery Outside a seller’s city
▪PaisaPay Cash on Delivery
These limits are not applicable to International Shipping options.

For most sellers, these changes do not affect how you currently list on eBay as most listings are already within these postage limits. The remaining small percentage of sellers who currently charge more than the above mentioned shipping charges, should review their listings to ensure they are in line with these changes. Listings that have shipping charges more than the above limits post 11th October 2010 will not go live on eBay.in.

Diwali Dealights: The eBay Way

 

We are launching an Integrated media blitzkrieg coupled with high-octane promotions on eBay.in site with the aim of making eBay the numero uno shopping destination this Diwali.

 

We have a new TV campaign which will prominently advertise eBay.in as THE One Stop Destination for Diwali shopping. The media plan covers popular channels across Music, Movies, Entertainment, Sports and Infotainment genres. In addition, this would be reinforced by real-time on the ground activation/BTL activities to get new users to shop on eBay.in. We are excited at the buzz this would generate amongst shoppers this Diwali.

 

On site, as part of the Diwali Dhamaka, we will run a Mega Free gift Promotion that will give buyers a chance to get assured free gifts basis the value of their purchase. We will also be running a Diwali contest for everyone to participate in and win exciting prizes. That is not all, to reward our regular shoppers, we have a reward points program, ‘eBay edge’ for the festive season. With eBay edge, buyers can earn reward points on every purchase and redeem them against eBay discount vouchers.

 

These special initiatives will be supported by great offers such as discount vouchers, additional supply of great deals on Diwali-specific product lines etc

 

Payments Options Expansion - Now eBay users can pay on PaisaPay with 30+ banks (including SBI), more Debit cards, cash cards, and get more EMI options!

 

We are glad to announce that very soon buyers on eBay India will have option to pay with:

 

·         Online Bank Transfer (OBT) of 30+ banks including popular banks like SBI, Axis Bank etc in addition to ICICI, Citibank and HDFC bank.

·         Cash cards like ITZ and Done Cards

·         Maestro Debit Card (aka ATM pin based) in addition to current Visa & Master Debit Cards

·         Interest Free 3/6* month EMI options on Citibank and HDFC bank in addition to current ICICI bank

 

*eBay.in would levy a one-time 2.5% Convenience charge for 6-month EMI option (including service tax) of the order value on the buyers. This will be charged to the buyer while they make payment for their items during the checkout process and will be paid by the buyer in 6 easy installments.

 

There will be no change in PaisaPay fees for the sellers and the existing arrangement, will continue for the new payment options. As we come closer to the launch we will share the exact launch date with you.

 

Making Search on eBay more relevant for buyers – Launch of Best Match on eBay India

 

To provide improved relevance in the Search experience for buyers, we are rolling out the ‘Best Match’ sort logic as the default sort option in select categories (as compared to Time end soon sort logic that exists as the default today).  These categories are -
