Dear Sellers,
As part of our constant effort to improve buyers’ ability to find what they are looking for and sellers’ ability to list in the right categories towards improving their sales, we are pleased to announce that we have made changes to the category structure on eBay.in. Many of these changes are driven by community suggestions, so a big thank you to all those members who wrote in!
Some of the other important changes are:
We have created a new sub-category for Portable Hard Disk Drives with four sub-categories within namely: “160GB”, “250GB”, “320GB”, “500GB or More” under the “Memory Cards, Pen Drives & HDD” category. Listings of Portable Hard Disk drives that are currently live on the Site in other sub-categories will NOT automatically move into this newly created sub-category. Sellers are requested to move their listings currently live on the Site into this newly created sub-category. Sellers are also requested to list all Portable Hard Disk Drives hereon in this sub-category. All those using Turbo Lister to list on the Site, please sync your Turbo Lister as explained below.
5-5.9 Mega Pixel Digital Cameras as a category has been combined into 6-6.9 Mega Pixel Digital Cameras and the 6-6.9 Mega Pixel Digital Cameras sub-category has been renamed to “5-6.9 Mega Pixel”. All listings currently live on the Site in the 5-5.9 Mega Pixel sub-category will automatically move to the newly created 5-6.9 Mega Pixel sub-category. All those using Turbo Lister to list on the Site, please sync your Turbo Lister as explained below.
Sub-categories “512MB or less” and “1GB” under “USB/Pen Drives” have been combined into the sub-category “2GB” and the “2GB’ sub-category has been renamed to “2GB or less”. All listings currently live on the Site in both “512MB or less” and “1GB” sub-categories will automatically move to the newly created “2GB or less” sub-category. All those using Turbo Lister to list on the Site, please sync your Turbo Lister as explained below.
A new sub-category called “Camera Mobile” has been included in “ZTC, CECT” and “Other Brands” sub-categories within Mobile Handsets. Sellers are advised to actively make use of these detailed sub-categories while listing as this can only increase the visibility of your listings and thereby the success rate.
Another significant change is that many categories primarily in Lifestyle (Jewellery, Apparel & Accessories, Home Décor) and Collectibles have been mapped to the corresponding categories on eBay.com after eBay.com changing their Category structure in February 2009. As a result of which, Sellers who use the International Listing upgrade will continue to have great visibility when listing under these sub-categories!
Please refer to the detailed Category changes for complete details of which sub-categories on eBay.in have been mapped to relevant categories on eBay.com. Request all Sellers who list in these sub-categories to take advantage of the potential for increased visibility through increased chances of a buyer on eBay.com visiting their listings (when listed along-with International Listing Upgrade (ILF)).
To view the present category structure, with category numbers, click on the 'Buy' link at the top of almost every page. Click on the 'See all categories' link towards the bottom of the page. You will reach the Category index page. Select the 'Show category numbers' radio button, and then click 'Show'. You can now view all the categories, with their respective category numbers.

As always, you can move your item to another category by revising your listing as long as it has not received a bid and there are more than 12 hours left in the listing. Click here for details on how to revise your item.
These changes are live on site and visible. We strongly encourage members to pay careful attention to which categories have changed and to update their listings as appropriate.
We always welcome community suggestions and we shall strive to incorporate them wherever possible. To submit a suggestion to eBay, click here.
Sellers using Turbo Lister are advised to update their tool by following the below steps:
- Open your Turbo Lister tool and from the Menu bar on the top select 'Tools'.
- From the dropdown options, please select 'Check for program updates' and wait for the tool to perform updates.
- Once the tool completes the updation process, a dialog box appears which says 'Install Now'. Click on the same and the new category structure will reflect in the tool.
Happy Trading!
Regards,
The eBay Team
