***Protecting your PC!***

22 December, 2008 | 03:02 PM IST

Dear members,

Protecting your computers against exploits and viruses is one of the most important online security measures you can take.

Yesterday, Microsoft released a critical patch for a recent Internet Explorer vulnerability. This vulnerability opens a new way for unsafe web pages to insert malware onto your computer. Once a computer is infected with malware, it could steal your usernames and passwords, or alter your browsing experience in dangerous ways.

The best way to keep safe from vulnerabilities is to keep your system up-to-date with the latest security patches. Microsoft provides an automatic update feature for Windows that we recommend you enable. You can also run a one-time scan to ensure you have the latest security patches by going to the Microsoft Update page.

In addition to activating auto-update on Windows and other systems, we recommend:

  1. Having a recent version of anti-virus, firewall, and anti-spyware software with up-to-date signatures
  2. Heeding all security warnings – never run un-trusted software or click on unexpected attachments.

Taking these precautions can help insure you have a safe browsing experience throughout the web. For more security information, tutorials, and free tools, please visit the eBay Security Center.

The eBay Team

***Unlimited Protection for Your International Purchases on eBay.com and eBay.co.uk***

22 December, 2008 | 10:29 AM IST

We’re delighted to bring you an improved PayPal Buyer Protection Programme for items you purchase overseas on eBay.com and eBay.co.uk – offering you safer online shopping just in time for the holiday season!

No matter what the amount, when you pay with PayPal, you’re now covered for the full value of qualifying items bought on eBay.com and eBay.co.uk at no additional cost – in the unlikely event that something goes wrong.

Additionally, PayPal Buyer Protection is available on many other eBay sites. To find out if an item is covered, simply look for the ‘Buy safely’ section on the eBay listing where you’re shopping.

Learn more about:

  1. PayPal’s qualification criteria on eBay.com
  2. PayPal’s qualification criteria on eBay.co.uk

Remember: PayPal’s Buyer Protection on eBay covers claims for eligible items that don’t arrive or significantly aren’t as described by the seller. In addition, PayPal also provides 100% coverage for unauthorised transactions sent from your PayPal account. Learn more about how PayPal keeps your online shopping secure.

So, play it safe this holiday season and pay using PayPal.

Happy shopping!
eBay South East Asia and PayPal Asia Teams
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
*Note: Coverage and amounts of the PayPal Buyer Protection Programme are based on the eBay site where you purchase your item and may vary by site. Please check the item listing for eligibility. Also, coverage applies to the full value of the purchase (including postage) for most items purchased on eBay.com and eBay.co.uk. Items listed within certain categories are not eligible for PayPal Buyer Protection. Not all eBay sites have PayPal Buyer Protection coverage. For example, items purchased on www.ebay.in using PaisaPay may qualify for eBay’s PaisaPay coverage as PayPal Buyer Protection is not available. Before making your purchase, check the eBay item page as described above to learn more about eligibility or coverage amounts.
***Original: Launching 'The Community Court '!***
06 October, 2008 | 02:54 PM IST
Dear Users,
Over the last several months, we've heard suggestions from our community members with regard to the Feedback System. To further strengthen the Feedback system we have designed a Community centric Feedback evaluation system. This system would be by the community, of the community and for the community.
We are pleased to announce the launch of Community Court (CC) for Feedback removal.
Community Court will allow sellers to appeal against Negative Feedbacks which they have received on eBay and that they perceive as unfair. Community Court will make Feedback issue resolution a community-driven process, by allowing the community members (both sellers and buyers) to participate and help resolve issues being faced by the community members.
Community Court is a platform where the “reputed” eBay India community members (the Jury) will evaluate appeals against Negative Feedback and vote to decide if the feedback can be removed or not. If the Community Court vote decides the feedback can be removed, eBay will remove the same.
The enrolment of Jury members begins from 6th October 2008 and Community Court will start accepting appeals for Feedback Cases from 2nd week of November.
FAQs:
What is the Community Court process?
  • Seller appeals against feedback that a buyer has left within 45 days of the transaction. The seller should write a statement about why the feedback is deemed unfair, along with any accompanying evidence.
  • The buyer who left feedback is then asked to explain their feedback. The seller will have a chance to respond to the buyer’s statement, after which the case will be placed before a jury of 21 randomly selected members.
  • The jury will vote on whether the feedback should be removed or not.
  • If majority of the jury (11 Members) vote to remove the feedback, then eBay will remove the Feedback from the seller’s account.
  • The jury's decision is final and binding and there is no re-appeal process. eBay will not respond to any appeals made in relation to Community Court verdicts.
Who can become a jury member?
You need to be
  1. Registered on eBay India for 6 months
  2. Should have 20 feedback stars with overall rating of 97% positive feedback
  3. Need to have completed at least one transaction on eBay as a buyer and one as a seller.
    OR
  4. Registered on eBay India for 6 months
  5. Should have had 10 buyer transactions
Click Here to enroll now!!!
Most importantly, we hope this will give sellers a forum to appeal against a Feedback which they perceive as unfair.
Regards,
The eBay Team
***Updated: Testing the new My eBay beta!***
01 December, 2008 | 07:01 PM IST
Dear Members,
For the last few months, our Community has helped us test the new My eBay. Along the way, you’ve also had some good ideas - in fact, some of you have even provided us valuable information here.
With product changes and testing behind us, we’re ready to retire the old My eBay on January 20, 2009. More than 90% of eBay members currently use the new My eBay already, but if you are one of the remaining 10% who have not made the switch, we encourage you to give it a try in the next several weeks: Just click the "try the beta" link in the upper right corner on the old My eBay pages.
I’ll update you one more time when we’re about retire the old version, but don’t wait until then to try the new experience – go try it now!
Thanks again for your help and participation.
Sincerely,
Regards,
The eBay Team
***Previous update: Testing the new My eBay beta!***
08 August, 2008 | 05:29 PM IST
Dear members,
As announced earlier, we have currently released a BETA version of 'My eBay’ for you to test. Some members will see the new ‘My eBay’ Beta version by default with an option to Opt out and the others will see the old ‘My eBay’ by default with a link on the top right stating “Try the new Beta” . Both the links to “Opt out” and “Try the new Beta” are now active and members can switch between their versions as per their convenience.
Here is a list of the key features you can expect to see in the Beta version:
  • Improved design and navigation: It’s now easier to view and sort through your transactions, messages and account activity.
  • Enhanced customisation features: Change colours and personalise the way your My eBay looks.
  • Leave personalised notes: You can now easily leave notes for your items you bought, sold or are watching
Report issues! We would recommend you to spend some time in testing out the new Beta and report any technical issues with the beta version through 'Contact Us'. We will be happy to look into it. Your opinion on what works and what doesn't helps us build a better tool.
Regards,
The eBay Team
***Original: Testing the new My eBay beta!***
07 August, 2008 | 12:16 PM IST
Dear members,
We are getting ready to launch a refreshingly new version of 'My eBay’, which is aimed at improving the way you can track and take action on your items. Before we are ready to launch this across site, we would like you to test it and get comfortable with using it. We have currently have released a BETA version for you to test.
As a part of this test, a small set of randomly selected members will see the new ‘My eBay’ Beta version by default with an option to Opt out and go back to the old ‘My eBay’. However, you may not be able to opt out of the new ‘My eBay’ Beta at this point in time. While we are working towards fixing the opt out issue you may choose to continue using the new version. If you would like to opt out at any point, you can log into any eBay international site and opt out there. You can also contact our customer support team.
For most members, who are not a part of this test currently, you will continue to see the old ‘My eBay’ by default with a link on the top right stating “Try the new Beta” . This link is not active at this point and w will keep you updated once this is ready for testing and look forward to your feedback.
We look forward to your co-operation in enhancing another aspect of the user experience on eBay.
Regards,
The eBay Team
