***A Message from Rathin Lahiri: Marketing update at eBay India***

28 November, 2007 | 01:19 PM IST

Hi, I’m Rathin Lahiri, Chief Marketing Officer at eBay India. My team & I work towards bringing more buyers to the site, to ensure better sales. We also undertake special initiatives to add new sellers to the eBay India platform to ensure that a variety of products are available for our buyers.

I am here today to give you all an update on the various marketing initiatives aimed at increasing buyers on site and also to share with you very a special news.

  ▪ Bringing Internet Users to eBay: Over the past one year, we continued to advertise aggressively on all the major portals and search engines. We are also reaching out to an enhanced user base via partnerships with language sites such as webdunia, social networking and blog sites.

  ▪ Increasing presence in Cyber Café’s: Since 35% of India’s population accesses internet through cyber cafés, our partnership with Reliance World is enabling cybercafé users to buy online using the services of a Web Guide. For many people, this has allowed them to make their first eCommerce transaction in a simple and convenient manner.

  ▪ Generating trial through eBay gift vouchers: eBay Gift vouchers and integrated marketing programs such as ‘Get Lucky’ has helped us in successfully in converting first time users / visitors to buyers. We plan to continue and have more such programs in future.

  ▪ Being in News: Did you know that every day, at least 7 articles about eBay India are published in our newspapers? While our team works closely on this, what makes eBay interesting for news folks is you, our community. A Big thank you to all our users who have taken time off to participate in various media initiatives. If you have any interesting story to share, don’t forget to write to us at mediacentre@ebay.com

  ▪ Developing New Sellers: Over the past year, we have successfully piloted eBay Trading Post, where existing Power Sellers leverage their knowledge to acquire, develop and help new sellers grow their eBay business. We have also got more than 50 active brands selling on site.

We are however, extremely conscious that we have a long way to go to popularize online shopping in India. For long, many of you have highlighted the need to advertise in the mass medium. I am glad to announce that very soon you will see eBay India advertising in the mainline TV medium.

We will be launching a TV campaign soon which will endear eBay to both its users and non users and target 21-35 year olds from major metros. The communication objective is to build awareness of eBay India and position eBay as a vibrant and exciting shopping destination! We want to drive internet users to try out online shopping and do it on eBay! The entire look and feel of the ad is just like eBay - Vibrant , Exciting & Cool.

The ad is based on the consumer insight that each of us at some point has felt badly treated by a shopkeeper at some time or the other. We have all wanted an experience where one didn’t have to put ones self esteem on the line or feel guilty about asking a lower price. The ad addresses this feeling in the consumer’s mind.

We will be advertising in 12 channels for a period of 3 weeks starting November 28th on all major TV channels. We hope to communicate to the audience that online shopping is far more exciting, cooler and a smarter way to shop. We also tried to highlight eBay India’s unique offerings which are great deals & variety!

We hope this will drive in more eyeballs to the site and increase visitors. While you can catch this ad on TV channels, here is a special preview for you. We will love to get your views on the ad. Feel free to discuss your comments here.

This campaign will also be supported by an onsite initiative to encourage buyers and Sanjay Varma from the User Engagement team will share more news on it shortly, so stay tuned!

Warm Regards,
Rathin Lahiri
Chief Marketing Officer – eBay India

***Announcing launch of all new PaisaPay!***

06 November, 2007 | 07:17 PM IST

We are pleased to announce that starting the week of 3rd December 2007 we will be launching several enhancements to PaisaPay. These enhancements are aimed at making transacting on eBay even more safe, fun and providing our buyers with a delightful experience. New PaisaPay will provide a mechanism for the buyers and sellers to complete their PaisaPay transactions with ease and help our sellers increase their business on eBay.

The New PaisaPay flow:

Key Highlights:

  1. Providing a delightful buyer experience: Buyers will now be able to use PaisaPay for fast, assured purchases or get their money back! In case the buyer does not receive the item purchased with the prescribed timelines, he will have the option to get a quick refund.

  2. Uniform performance guidelines for Sellers: In new PaisaPay the sellers will have fixed timelines within which they need to ship and deliver the item. This will help in providing a standardised seller experience where sellers will have clear performance guidelines. In case a seller needs more time to ship or deliver the product, he can request the buyer for a time extension.

  3. Easy tracking of shipments for both Buyers & Sellers: Sellers will be required to enter the shipping details in My PaisaPay within the prescribed timelines. This will give buyers and sellers a quick reference point to know the shipment status thereby resulting in smooth communication between buyers & sellers.

  4. Easy Refund Mechanism:
          a. In case the seller is not able to ship the item: Seller can easily issue a refund to the buyer by not entering the shipping details within the prescribed timelines. In such cases PaisaPay will automatically issue a refund to the buyer. The sellers no longer need to follow the offline process of contacting PaisaPay Customer Support for issuing refund.
          b. In case the buyer does not receive the item: If the buyer has not received the item within the prescribed timelines he has the option to raise a refund claim. In case the seller has delivered the item he will have 5 days to dispute the buyer’s claim. In case of any dispute between the buyer and seller on item delivery, PaisaPay’s decision will be final.

  5. Seller Remittance on Buyer Confirmation: PaisaPay shall remit the money to the seller as soon as the buyer confirms item receipt or does not raise a refund claim in the prescribed timelines. Certain Qualified sellers will be eligible for Express Remittance.

  6. Express Remittance for Qualified sellers: Sellers who qualify for Express Remittance will have their individual Express Remittance limit. Please note that Express Remittance is a privilege for sellers with strong business and good behaviour history on eBay. The option to offer this privilege to sellers will be at the sole discretion of PaisaPay.

  7. Online Remittance to replace Demand Drafts: PaisaPay will remit seller’s money online to his bank account instead of mailing demand drafts. This will save both the courier & encashment time for the sellers. It will also mean no more cases of lost demand drafts.

  8. Twice a week remittance cycle: PaisaPay will now be sending money to sellers twice a week (bi-weekly basis) replacing the process of weekly remittance.

  9. All new My PaisaPay: The new ‘My PaisaPay’ in “My eBay”, will give buyers & sellers an easier interface to communicate with each other and stay updated on transaction details.

  10. PaisaPay Phone Support to be extended to all seven days of the week: PaisaPay phone support will be extended to all seven days of the week (from current five days a week) from the month of December 07.

  11. PaisaPay becomes mandatory: All listings will automatically offer PaisaPay as a mode of payment. Sellers can also offer other mode of payments. Sellers with 20 or less listings will be able to offer PaisaPay as the only mode of payment. Read FAQ’s.

  12. PaisaPay Invoice: To ease the process of reconciliation and accounting your PaisaPay transactions PaisaPay would be issuing a monthly Invoice to sellers.

  13. eBay Buyer Protection remains the same: Buyers will continue to remain eligible for eBay Buyer Protection after time-out period. All other buyer protection features will remain the same. Read FAQ’s.

  14. PaisaPay EMI Option: Sellers with 5 or more feedback will have the option to offer 3 and 6 month EMI in their listings, which can be availed by buyers paying via ICICI bank credit cards. Additional PaisaPay charges apply fro EMI transactions. Read FAQ’s

To avail the Enhanced PaisaPay facility from the week of December 3, 2007, all sellers will need to register again with PaisaPay and update their bank details here. We encourage you to update your details as soon as possible on this link. Read FAQ’s.

We understand that you might have questions to understand the changes better. Please feel free to read the FAQ’s, go through the details on this page and on the tutorial, contact our Customer Service team or post your questions on this thread.

We are very excited about these changes as we believe that this will help us in providing a high quality online shopping experience to our users and help in making eBay the favoured destination of online shoppers.

***Coming Soon – A New Look for Sign-in Page***

06 November, 2007 | 07:11 PM IST

Hi everyone...I'm Sandeep Gondekar from the Product Management Team. In the next few days, when you go to log into eBay, you'll be greeted by a new sign-in page.

Internet safety is a top priority for everyone, so I want to help make sure our regular buyers and sellers don't mistake the new sign-in page for a spoof page! As you can see below, the new page is a bit more friendly and inviting. It also encourages guests to register on the site and points out security advantages.

In case you are ever concerned that an eBay sign-in page is legitimate, here are a few tips:

    1. Close your Web browser. Open a new browser and type in www.ebay.in, then sign in to eBay.
    2. Download the eBay Toolbar with Account Guard (it's free). It will warn you when you are on a potential spoof Web site. You can also report spoof Web sites through the Account Guard feature.
    3. Be careful while entering your eBay User ID and password. Remember - never enter your eBay User ID and password on a page that doesn't have "ebay.in" immediately before the first forward slash (/). If the address includes additional characters prior to the forward slash such as "@," dashes, etc., it is not an eBay page. Even if the Web address contains the word "eBay", it may not be an eBay Web site.
    4. Download the latest versions of Microsoft or Firefox browsers

I also encourage you to visit our Help area to learn more about recognizing and reporting spoof eBay websites. Whenever you coem across a spoof, do not forget to mail it to spoof@ebay.com

Thanks for your support – and stay safe! Here is what the new sign in page will look like:

Sincerely,
Sandeep Gondekar,
eBay Product Management
