***New bidding box on the item page***

18 October, 2007 | 11:36 AM IST

Hi everyone...This is Sandeep Gondekar again with eBay's Product Management Team. Buyers, take note! We're introducing a cool change to the bidding flow that we think will make it even faster – and more fun – to win the item that you want.

New bidding box on item page

We're saving you one more click – on the item page. Instead of having you click the Place Bid button to get into the bidding process, we're including a new field at the top of the page where you can enter your bid amount directly and submit (just like you can currently do at the bottom of the page).

We have already tested this feature and have seen positive effects on bidding. I hope this feature will make biding more fun for you. If you have questions or feedback on this feature, do post them on this thread.

Regards
Sandeep Gondekar

***A Message from Sharat Digumarti – A Look at Detailed Seller Ratings Data & Other Feedback News***

11 October, 2007 | 04:23 PM IST

Hi everyone – this is Sharat Digumarti from the Marketplace Health team. It has been about six months since we began introducing Detailed Seller Ratings (DSRs), and I felt it was time to provide a brief update to let you know more about the progress and results we are seeing with DSR data.

DSR adoption rates
We are delighted that buyers are leaving detailed seller ratings over 72% of the time. In some countries, such as Australia, daily adoption rates are above 80%. In addition, the overall rate of Feedback being left remains at 70%. This is a positive result, because it shows that the introduction of DSRs has not had any negative impact on buyers’ willingness to leave Feedback.

A look at marketplace DSR scores
With over six months of data, the DSR scores for eBay.in are showing some healthy early patterns. Below is a table with a breakdown of DSR scores by seller percentile. The median score reflects the score that a seller in the middle would get, if sellers were ranked by their buyers from best to worst.

Bottom 10% of Sellers Bottom 25% of SellersMedian SellerTop 25% of SellersTop 10% of Sellers
Item as Described 4.04.34.54.74.8
Communication 4.04.34.54.74.8
Shipping Time 3.84.14.44.74.8
S&H Charge 3.84.04.34.64.8

Using DSRs
Detailed Seller Ratings are a measurement of buyer satisfaction, and they give sellers a tool they can use to evaluate how they are performing. When an individual set of DSRs (visible to sellers by mousing over the stars in their profile) is compared with the chart above, sellers can get a sense of how well they are performing compared to the marketplace as a whole. Sellers with scores lower than the median can take advantage of this data – which is provided by buyers across the marketplace -- to reevaluate and adjust their business practices.

As we look to ensure that buyers have great experiences on eBay, we will be leveraging this DSR data in several ways in 2008 to help us evaluate seller performance, to determine PowerSeller eligibility and the benefits associated with the PowerSeller Program, and to influence priority in search results.

Other Feedback news – Removing Item Title from Buyer Profile page
We have received feedback from our buyers that the inclusion of the item title on the 'Feedback as a Buyer' page seems like an invasion of privacy, even though this information is readily available through advanced search. We surveyed buyers and over a half of them were concerned or extremely concerned with the visibility of this information on the 'Feedback as a Buyer' page. So, effective today, we will be removing the item title from this page.

You will be hearing more about the use of DSRs in the future, so please stay tuned. If you have any questions on this change, please feel free to post here

Sincerely,
Sharat Digumarti
Marketplace Health Team

***Build more confidence in your International Buyers - Use 'Be Protected' banner in your ILF listings***

11 October, 2007 | 01:30 PM IST

Hi, am Sharat Digumarti from the Marketplace Health Team. My team and I are responsible for ensuring a safe and trusted marketplace for buyers and sellers.

Last June, eBay changed the buyer protection policy whereby the eligibility for Purchase Protection is now governed by the site on which the purchase is made and not according to the site of registration. While there was no change in Buyer Protection Program in India, in some sites like US, Canada, Australia, the only protection offered is the one provided by the payment service provider.

This change has led to some concerns amongst international buyers buying items from India site and paying via PaisaPay as they will be covered under buyer protection offered by PaisaPay. Since they are not aware of the same it reduces their confidence from buying from sellers who have listed on India site.

To ensure that International buyers are well aware of the buyer protection offered by PaisaPay and increase their confidence in buying from you, we have created the ‘Be Protected’ banner. You can choose to use this banner in your listings which you are offering for international buyers via world wide shipping. To get the banner, Click Here. If you have more questions, please read the FAQ section or contact our Customer Support Team.

Regards,
Sharat Digumarti

***Changes to the Fee Circumvention Policy (Contact Information)***

05 October, 2007 | 04:17 PM IST

Hi, I am Sharat Digumarti from the Marketplace Health Team. My team and I are responsible for ensuring a safe and trusted marketplace for buyers and sellers. One of the ways we do this is by introducing new policies as well as changing our existing policies to better reflect our community’s needs.

I am here today to share an important policy change with you.

Change in Policy:

Communication is one of the most important tools to help reduce friction between buyers and sellers. In our effort to improve communication between our buyers and sellers and thereby enhance their experience, we are making the following change in the Fee Circumvention Policy:

In listings uploaded after 00:00 AM IST on 1st November 2007, sellers may include their contact details (email address, phone number etc) in the item description. Sellers who choose to include their contact details in the item description must compulsorily include the "Safe Buying" banner provided by eBay. Click here for the "Safe Buying" banner.

The "Safe Buying" banner will give new buyers the confidence of transacting online and increase their awareness of the eBay Buyer Protection Program.

This policy change is applicable to listings in ALL categories.

Privacy & User Experience Concerns:

eBay is concerned about your privacy and has policies to limit the disclosure of your contact information only to those eBay members who transact with you. However, when you publish your contact information in the listing, the information can be potentially used to spam you through email, phone calls, SMS etc. Therefore we strongly advise all members to install the eBay Toolbar and take the eBay Spoof Tutorial to ensure that you are protected against spoof emails and phishing.

While mentioning your phone number in items listed for Worldwide Shipping; please include your preferred contact time so as to not be affected by time zone differences.

Transactions outside of eBay (off-site offers):

While this change offers significant benefits to our users, we would like to remind our users that eBay prohibits offers to buy or sell listed items outside of the eBay Web site. Offers of this nature opens our users towards significant fraud risk as such buyers are not eligible for eBay services, including the eBay Buyer Protection, Feedback, Item Not Received Process etc.

Some examples of off-site offers include:

• Offering to buy or sell a listed item outside of eBay.
• Cancelling a listing to sell to a buyer who became aware of the item through eBay.
• Ending a listing early to sell the item at a higher price to the winning bidder.
• Offering to sell an item to a bidder in a Reserve Not Met listing.
• Offering to sell duplicate or additional merchandise to under bidders who have not won the auction

Strict actions including Listing Cancellation, Selling Restriction and Account Suspension would be taken against sellers for any such violation.

I will encourage you to take the Fee Circumvention Tutorial & learn more on avoiding Spam & Phishing. To know more about this change, please see the FAQs.

We are confident that our community will continue to adhere to all the eBay policies and will use this policy change to do their utmost to provide potential buyers with the best possible experience.

Regards,
Sharat Digumarti

***PaisaPay Fee Revision***

05 October, 2007 | 04:17 PM IST

Dear Members,

Ever since the inception of PaisaPay with eBay, we have been steadily working to improve PaisaPay services to provide a better buying and selling experience.

Some of our key initiatives in the past have been increasing Buyer Protection up to Rs.50,000/-, enabling our sellers to offer ‘Immediate Payment Required’ on their listings, launching PaisaPay Phone Support and introducing eBay Gift Vouchers for PaisaPay transactions.

We have also successfully provided our sellers complete protection from any fraudulent chargeback and will continue to invest in stronger risk mitigation systems.

In the last two and a half years (since the eBay India launch in March 2005), we have seen an increase in our costs of providing the PaisaPay service to our users. So far, we have maintained the price of our service. Going forward, to help us continue to provide enhanced service and experience, we are revising the fees for PaisaPay effective on all payments made by the buyer using PaisaPay after 11:59 PM IST, 31st October 2007.

The revised PaisaPay fee will be 4% and taxes extra as applicable. Click here to learn more about the PaisaPay Fee Changes.

If you need any help in understanding the new fee or revising your items, please see our FAQs or feel free to use our Customer Service Resources. PowerSellers can also reach out to their Account Manager via the toll free number.

We are aware that as a seller you have the choice of offering many payment modes and we appreciate that you choose to offer PaisaPay for a frictionless experience and higher fulfilment. We will look for further opportunities to enhance PaisaPay to ensure that the service continues to live up to your expectations.

Regards,
eBay International AG

***My Messages: New Look, Bulk Message Management, and More***

03 October, 2007 | 10:35 AM IST

Hi everyone...I am Sandeep Gondekar from the Product Management team and today I am here to tell you about some exciting news about My Messages. My Messages, your inbox within My eBay is the most secure way to receive relevant messages from eBay and other members. It also helps you ensure that the messages received by you from eBay are authentic. We have been working on some changes to the user interface that we think will make it more intuitive and user-friendly - much like most standard email applications.

Here is some more detail about the changes you will now see in My Messages:

Easier identification for alerts, eBay messages, and member messages To help you prioritize at a glance, we are making it easier to identify what types of messages are in your inbox. Alerts (important messages about your account from Billing, Trust & Safety, etc.) are now displayed at the top of your inbox in a separate section from other messages. If you don't have any alerts, this section will not be displayed.

In the Messages section, messages from eBay will be highlighted in green, while messages from other members, such as questions about an item, will be in black.

Bulk actions and other message management tools Now you can manage multiple messages at once using Delete, Save to Desktop, Move to, and Mark As actions. You can also set how many messages you want to see on each page, and use a new filter to quickly find messages related to a particular item.

We are also working on "threading" member-to-member messages, so that you can easily read your entire conversation with another member. Look for this in the next few months.

Improved look-and-feel We've updated the left-hand navigation to make the most commonly-used links stand out more, plus we've designed a cleaner-looking layout to My Messages overall. In addition you'll see new icons that "describe" many of the features and actions and more customization options.

We think these changes will make My Messages an even better tool for you – but your opinion is most important! After checking out the new-look My Messages, please send us an email at mymessages@ebay.com and tell us what you think.

Regards,
Sandeep Gondekar

***Original: Important notice for Sellers - Issues with confirmation mail for some Online Bank Transfer payments***

01 October, 2007 | 06:35 PM IST

Dear Sellers,

We have observed that some of the payments made via Online Bank Transfer (OBT) had developed an issue. As a result, both buyers and sellers did not receive confirmation mail for certain OBT payments made after Friday evening. In addition, the payment confirmation is not reflecting in the seller’s current balance section of PaisaPay account. However the same was reflecting as payment confirmed in the My eBay (highlighted Rs icon). We have identified and resolved the issue.

The payments which are showing as confirmed in My eBay, but sellers have not received a confirmation mail for the same, the PaisaPay team will also be getting in touch with sellers with the list of impacted items which they need to ship. In certain cases, the buyer might have made double payment for the same product as well. In case you come across such payments, kindly confirm with the buyer if he intended to buy two products. The payment for all the impacted items will be received by the sellers in the payment cycle dated 9th Oct.

We sincerely regret the inconvenience caused to you. In case you have any query regarding this issue, please feel free to contact our Customer Support or write to us.

Regards,
The eBay Team

01 October, 2007 | 06:56 PM IST

Hi, I am Amit Bhartiya, Director, from eBay India Motors Team and I am here to share an exciting news with you.

The Cars & Bikes category on eBay is one of the easiest ways to reach out to more than 2 million buyers who are looking for a used car or bike. Very soon, you will be able to list your car or bike on eBay in a simple classified format and that too for FREE!

The new classifieds format for Cars & Bikes category will ensure that your listings are available for a prospective buyer for 30 days instead of the current 7 days and it will be easier for them to contact you in case they wish to ‘kick the tyres’. The existing listings under the current Auction / Buy it Now format will end as per their normal schedule.

The Parts & Accessories sub category will remain unchanged in all respects. In case you have any questions on this change, please feel free to use our Customer Support Resources. For listings created in all other categories, the current fee circumvention policy, and all other eBay policies like mis-categorisation etc remains unchanged.

***Introducing eBay Gift Vouchers***

01 October, 2007 | 11:57 AM IST

Hi, I am Sanjay Varma from the Buyer Engagement team. Our teams role is to ensure that our buyers continually find eBay interesting, are able to find great deals on eBay and keep on coming back to the site. Over the last few months, we have run various promotions (Bid for a Buck, iPod sale, laptop sale etc) to provide great deals for our buyers. We will be shortly launching another new feature that will help us provide better discounts for our buyers - eBay Gift Vouchers.

eBay Gift Vouchers will be a 10-digit alphanumeric code that you can enter while making a PaisaPay payment to avail of discounts on www.ebay.in. eBay will, from time to time, offer these gift vouchers to select users of eBay, or non users, at it's sole discretion.

Salient features about eBay Gift Vouchers:
  ▪ The eBay gift vouchers will be valid on eBay India (www.ebay.in) only
  ▪ The eBay gift vouchers can only be used by registered users of eBay
  ▪ The eBay gift vouchers will be valid only for Buy it Now listings offering PaisaPay.
  ▪ As a seller to offer eBay gift voucher on your listing, all you need to do is offer PaisaPay on your fixed price listings.
  ▪ Each gift voucher can be used only once and will have limited validity period.
  ▪ The gift voucher will be issued by eBay to a select group of users, at its discretion. Users can not buy these gift vouchers on the site

To know more about this feature, please contact our Customer Support Team. As and when we issue gift vouchers, we shall also be providing details on how you can redeem the same.

Regards,
