***Introduction of Item specifics in Women’s Apparel and MP3 Players***

30 December, 2005 | 06:58 PM IST

Dear members,

We are glad to announce the introduction of item specifics in the Women’s Apparel and MP3 Players categories. Providing Item Specifics has advantages because it enables buyers find your item based on additional details.

Note: The Item Specifics feature is not available for all categories, and the layout for Item Specifics on View Item pages varies by category.

About Item Specifics

  • The Item Specifics are determined by the category in which you sell your item. For example, the Item Specifics available in an apparel category would be related to size and style, while Item Specifics in a Mobile category would be related to model and features.
  • The Item Specifics you provide are displayed at the top of your item description and are used by buyers to search for items. They are considered a binding part of your item description.
  • In most categories supporting Item Specifics, this information is optional. However, it is definitely to your benefit to complete as many of the details as are applicable.

Advantages of providing Item Specifics

  • Gives buyers an easy, fast way to search for your item.
  • Makes the basic facts about your item clear and accessible on your listing.
  • Gives buyers more details about your item and helps them make an informed purchase.
  • Provides an additional way for buyers to find your item (for example, by size or by style).
  • Provides consistent terminology and spelling (For example, to find a particular shoe size of 6.5, buyers do not have to search for variations including "sz 6 ½" or "6 and a half").

We encourage all the sellers to fill in as much details in these item specifics using the Turbo Lister and the SYI (Sell Your Item) form.

Regards,
The eBay Team

***Introduction of Mobiles Product Finder***

30 December, 2005 | 06:58 PM IST

Dear members,

We are glad to introduce Product Finders in the Mobiles (Handsets) category.

Product finders (Pull-down menus) will now be available on the Mobiles (Handsets) category. Using drop-down menus, buyers can choose to search using as many or as few characteristics as you would like. For example, to look for a specific “Model" in Handsets, from the main eBay page go to the Mobiles & Accessories category, and select Handsets.

This example below shows the pull-down menu feature you can use to select items based on the item characteristics of Brand, Type, Camera (mega pixel), and must have features.

To view the Mobile handsets item specifics click here.

Note: Item Specifics are also live in the Men’s apparel category.

The eBay Team

***Issue in Closing Disputes***

26 December, 2005 | 07:10 PM IST

Some members are currently facing an issue while trying to close an Unpaid Item Dispute. The effected member would be unable to choose the second option “I feel I have no other option but to end communication with the buyer." when closing an Unpaid Item dispute over 8 days old. They can only select the first option, "We've completed the transaction and we're both satisfied."

We are aware of the issue and working towards resolving it. We will also request our members to report the item numbers on which they are unable to close dispute, to the Customer Support department for appropriate action.

We appreciate your patience!

Regards,
The eBay Team

***Unpaid Item Process – More Helpful Content***

23 December, 2005 | 10:46 AM IST

Dear members,

We have made a few content changes to make the Unpaid Item Process more helpful. (Learn more about the UPI process here).
Please note: These changes will not change the actual UPI process itself. We’re just improving some of the wording and guidance that we provide within the process.

Some of the changes include:

  • Resolution Tips - Designed to instruct buyers and sellers on how to achieve a successful outcome, these tips will be prominently displayed at the top of the View Dispute and View Dispute: Enter Response pages.
  • Additional action links - “Relist Item” and “Second Chance Offer” links will be provided on the Dispute Closed and Dispute Closed Successfully pages to give sellers more options at the end of the process.
  • New Dropdown Options and Clarifying Text – We’ve clarified several of the dropdown selections with clearer choices. For example, “The buyer’s payment has not been received” and “The buyer’s payment has not cleared” will be two separate options, replacing one which reads, “Payment has not been received or has not yet cleared”.

***Jewellery, Precious Metals and Loose Beads Policy***

22 December, 2005 | 10:22 AM IST

To improve the shopping experience on eBay, eBay has developed more specific policies for selling jewellery on eBay.in. These policies are designed to ensure buyers have a clear understanding of what they purchase by requiring sellers to include important information about the jewellery item in the item title and description.

Sellers wishing to list these items need to review the policy which is available here - http://pages.ebay.in/help/policies/jewelry.html. Please pay close attention to the ‘Some Examples’ section within the policy. The jewellery listings must adhere to the rules outlined.

Happy Trading,
The eBay Team

***Launched - eBay Marketplace Research, more information for buyers and sellers***

13 December, 2005 | 02:48 PM IST

Hi, I am Rajesh Iyer, from the Seller Product Marketing Team. We know that sellers need information to run their businesses efficiently -- for instance, the price an item is likely to go for on eBay, or what types of items buyers are searching for. Likewise, buyers want to know the price they can expect to pay for an item they're considering purchasing. We're happy to announce that you can now get this kind of information based on activity on eBay's sites with our newest service, eBay Marketplace Research.

eBay Marketplace Research, launched recently, will help you understand overall listing, selling, and searching trends across the eBay site, and give you the information you need to become a more informed buyer or seller.

Some of the features of eBay Marketplace Research include:

  • The ability to analyze key information like the average sale prices, average start prices, and average Buy It Now prices of items
  • The ability to explore the top keyword searches on eBay by category and by related keywords
  • Charts to help you see buying and selling trends in the eBay marketplace
  • Access to completed items data going back up to 90 days

eBay Marketplace Research is a subscription-based service, offered in three levels -- Fast Pass, Basic, and Pro. Choose the level that best meets your research needs on eBay. To know more about Marketplace Research, click here.

Sincerely,
Rajesh Iyer

***More Feedback Changes Live***

09 December, 2005 | 08:33 PM IST

In June 2005, we announced a number of changes to eBay's Feedback that we believe will address some of the top concerns members have had with the feedback system. This September, we launched the first change -- removing all feedback from users who are indefinitely suspended within 90 days of registration (read the announcement).

Here are two more changes that are now live:

  1. Requiring new members to complete a tutorial before leaving neutral or negative feedback.

Members who have 10 or less feedback will now be required to complete a brief tutorial before leaving their first neutral or negative feedback. The tutorial will educate new members about the feedback system as well as ensure that they are aware of the various communication tools available to them prior to leaving feedback for their trading partner.

In addition, we have updated the page that all members see prior to leaving neutral or negative feedback. The updated page will emphasize the importance of communicating with your trading partner on eBay prior to leaving feedback. It will also urge members to make sure they have given their trading partner enough time to fulfill their obligations.

  2. Removing feedback ratings (not comments) left by buyers who don't participate in the Unpaid Item process on eBay for an item.

We will automatically remove feedback ratings left by buyers who do not respond to the Unpaid Item process (UPI) on eBay. This means the rating (whether positive, neutral or negative) will no longer affect the recipient's feedback score, although the feedback comment itself will remain. An administrative note from eBay will be added to the comment, indicating that the feedback rating was removed because the member did not participate in the Unpaid Item process on eBay. This will address the concern pointed out by sellers of users, who do not pay for their item nor respond to the Unpaid Item process, rating the seller. This is a global change and will affect all eBay sites.

The new policy only applies to unpaid item claims filed on or after Tuesday, December 6th (except for those that were filed on or after December 6th and were closed before the change was fully implemented on December 9th). Eligibility is based on the Unpaid Item filing date, not when the feedback was left.

To comment on any of the recent changes, please visit the Discussion Boards and always remember to read the Announcement Board for any future changes we may make to the feedback system.

Regards,
The eBay Team
