***Updated: First Phase of Feedback System Changes is now Live*** |
 |
 |
 |
22 September, 2005 | 05:55 PM IST

On June 24th, we had announced that we will be making some changes to the feedback system. (Please see the announcement directly below).
We are happy to say that the first phase of these changes -- removing all feedback from users who are indefinitely suspended within 90 days of registration -- is now live. Our belief is that members who are indefinitely suspended within 90 days of their registration were never truly members of the Community. Therefore, their feedback should not count.
These feedback changes are effective on all eBay sites.

The eBay Team

***Original:
Upcoming Changes to Feedback System*** |
 |
 |
 |
 |
 |
 24 June, 2005 | 07:31 PM IST

eBay's feedback system is a powerful way for perfect strangers to have the confidence and trust to trade with each other on eBay. Like other areas of the eBay marketplace, the feedback system has continually evolved to keep up with the changing needs of the Community.
We are pleased to announce a number of changes we will be making to the feedback system later this year.
These changes include:
- Neutralising feedback left by members who don't participate in issue resolution processes. We believe that members unwilling to participate in processes designed to help resolve issues, such as the Unpaid Item process or the Item Not Received process, shouldn't be able to impact another member's reputation. After this change is implemented, if a member leaves feedback for a transaction and does not participate in these processes, eBay will neutralize their feedback. This means the rating (whether positive or negative) will not affect the recipient's feedback score. While the feedback comment itself will remain, it will include an administrative note from eBay indicating that the feedback doesn't count towards the member's total score.
- Removing feedback from users who are indefinitely suspended within 90 days of registration. We believe that members who are indefinitely suspended within 90 days of registering on eBay were never truly members of the Community, and so their feedback comments and ratings should not count. We will automatically remove feedback (positive, neutral, and negative) left by such users.
- Requiring new members to complete a tutorial before leaving neutral or negative feedback. This change will require all new users (members with a feedback score of less than 10) to complete a short tutorial before leaving neutral or negative feedback. We hope that the tutorial will educate new members about the feedback system as well as ensure that they are aware of the various communication tools available to them prior to leaving feedback for their trading partner.
Click here for further information on these upcoming changes and the philosophy and history behind the feedback system. Please stay tuned to the Announcement Board for more updates on these upcoming changes as we get closer to launching.

The eBay India Team

Meg Whitman

I'm excited to let you know that eBay plans to acquire Skype, the leader in online voice communications.
Skype has set a new standard in online voice communications with outstanding sound quality and unmatched ease of use. And like eBay, Skype has a fast-growing community -- some 54 million Skype users around the world already use their PCs to talk with one another.
And best of all, conversations between Skype users via PC are free. You can get up and running on Skype in just a few minutes. Just go to www.skype.com/go/x.home to learn more and download the free Skype software application. Try it – it’s fun!
Over time, we intend to make voice communications a part of the eBay marketplace – a huge step forward in making transactions faster and easier, as well as bringing even more interactivity and humanity to the eBay Community.
We’ll be working with you, our Community, over the next few weeks to thoughtfully work out the details of how eBay and Skype will interact, including any policy changes that may be required.
We expect this acquisition to be finalized soon. In the meantime, you can learn more about our Skype plans in the news release, in English, we issued just a few minutes ago.
Working together, eBay, PayPal and Skype will redefine online trade and community. I hope you’ll join us in this exciting new chapter in eBay’s history.
Sincerely,
Meg Whitman,
President & CEO,

***Shipping and Payment Validation*** |
 |
 |
 |
09 September, 2005 | 03:03 PM IST

Dear Sellers,
One of the top feedback many of you had given us was regarding outstation buyers selecting 'local' shipping option, instead of 'national'. We are happy to announce that we have recently introduced the functionality of validation during the checkout process. These validations will ensure that the buyer is selecting the appropriate shipping and payment option.
These validations will be based on 3 parameters:
- Seller – Buyer Location
- Cash on Delivery (COD) payment option
- Buyer Picks Up and Pays (BPP) payment option.
For the Seller – Buyer location, the validation will work on the basis of the Pin Code of the two transacting entities. The Pin Codes will define whether the transaction is local (within the city) or non - local (seller & buyer from different cities). In case the transaction is non local, the shipping options offered by the seller will be validated and only national shipping options offered by the seller will be displayed to the buyer. However, local buyers will continue to see all the Shipping Options.
You can now offer different costs for local and national shipping without the fear of a non local buyer selecting local shipping charges.
In case of Cash on Delivery (COD), if a buyer chooses COD as a payment option which has been offered by the seller, he / she will have to choose COD as a shipping option (if offered by the seller) as well to proceed ahead in checkout. Thus a buyer cannot have a mismatch in the payment and shipping options he is selecting at the time of checkout.
The same logic will also be applicable for Buyer Picks Up and Pays (BPP).
Thus to make maximum benefit of this feature it is important for you to offer COD and BPP both as payment and shipping option to facilitate the right selection by the buyer.
We encourage you to use the Site Features and Functionalities Discussion Board to discuss this and other site features with fellow users, and to provide us with your feedback regarding any site feature.
Happy Selling!

The eBay Team
