***Coming Soon - Changes to Item Specifics in Video Game Systems***

December 29, 2008 | 09:46AM PST/PT

We plan to update the Item Specifics in the Video game Systems category in the next few weeks:

  • Adding 'Refurbished' to Condition
  • Removing Xbox 360 Elite as a separate value from Xbox 360

If you list items manually through an eBay seller tool (for example, the Sell Your Item form or Turbo Lister) or the eBay API, the updated Item Specifics will be available in the next few weeks. If you use a third party listing service (such as ChannelAdvisor), please contact them to verify when they will update these Item Specifics.

If you have any comments or feedback about Item Specifics, please email them to taxonomy@ebay.com and they will be considered for future enhancements.

***Ivory Policy Update Brian Burke***

December 18, 2008 | 03:17PM PST/PT

Brian Burke
Hi everyone – this is Brian Burke with eBay's Policy team. Effective January 1, 2009 we will no longer permit the sale of ivory on the site with two exceptions:

        • Pianos with ivory keys will be permitted
        • Wood furniture with ivory inlays will be permitted as long as the item was created before 1900.

In October, eBay Ink (www.ebayinkblog.com) covered the background and rationale around this decision, which I encourage you to read. For more details, please see the Animals & Wildlife policy.

Sincerely,
Brian Burke
Director, Global Marketplace Policy

***A Message from John Canfield – Protecting your PC ***

December 18, 2008 | 02:46PM PST/PT

John Canfield
Hello everyone...Protecting your computers against exploits and viruses is one of the most important online security measures you can take.

Yesterday, Microsoft released a critical patch for a recent Internet Explorer vulnerability. This vulnerability opens a new way for unsafe web pages to insert malware onto your computer. Once a computer is infected with malware, it could steal your usernames and passwords, or alter your browsing experience in dangerous ways.

The best way to keep safe from vulnerabilities is to keep your system up-to-date with the latest security patches. Microsoft provides an automatic update feature for Windows that we recommend you enable. You can also run a one-time scan to ensure you have the latest security patches by going to the Microsoft Update page.

In addition to activating auto-update on Windows and other systems, we recommend:

  • Having a recent version of anti-virus, firewall, and anti-spyware software with up-to-date signatures
  • Heeding all security warnings – never run un-trusted software or click on unexpected attachments.

Taking these precautions can help insure you have a safe browsing experience throughout the web. For more security information, tutorials, and free tools, please visit the eBay Security Center.

Sincerely,

John Canfield
Senior Director, Fraud Prevention Policy
