***Starting this Week – Item Page Testing***

Subha Shetty
Hi everyone...At eBay Live! (read my earlier announcement), we had the opportunity to collect a lot of valuable input on our redesigned item page from attendees. As a result, we’ve made two significant changes to what we presented in June:

        • The redesigned item page Description section will be flex width, not fixed. We heard from 3rd-party developers and sellers that our original plan to require a fixed width for the description area of the item page would cause too much disruption to listing templates. We’ve modified our design, so now the top section will be fixed width, but the lower Description section will fluctuate in width (as it does today) to accommodate the various types of listing templates our sellers use.
        • Preview your item in the new item page. Sellers need to be able to see how their items will appear in the new page being tested, so they can make adjustments as necessary. As a seller, if you have an item listed, simply sign in and click the new preview link at the top of your listing to view the item as it would appear in the new design.

Testing plans
We’re starting another 2-month testing cycle. Starting this week, a very small percentage of members will be randomly selected to see one of several new page variants that we’re testing. This means not everyone in our test will see the same designs or features.

Remember this is only a test! If you are randomly selected to try the new item page temporarily, we appreciate your support and patience. We’ll be back with more information on our results and future plans in a few weeks.

I’d also like to let you know about a new feature we’re testing:

  • New merchandising module with seller opt-out. As part of the new test cycle, some of the variants will include a merchandising "module." The placement of this module will vary; some variants include merchandising along the right side of the page, while other variants display this module across the bottom. In keeping with trends and shopping expectations on the internet, these designs offer buyers more selection, while offering our sellers more exposure. Items merchandised will include relevant listings from the same seller or other sellers.

Sellers who do not wish to have other sellers' items appear on their item page can opt-out via preferences in My eBay. Keep in mind that by opting out, your items will no longer appear on other seller’s pages, limiting exposure to buyers.

To learn more about the redesigned item page, please read our Frequently Asked Questions. My team and I will also be answering questions in this Auction Listings forum discussion. And please stay tuned for more information about the redesigned item page on our General Announcements board.

Sincerely,

Subha Shetty
