The category structure will be updated in mid-August based on input received from the eBay Community and from experts in the relevant fields.

The August update contains some significant changes for Jewelry & Watches and Electronics, as well as many additions to Antiques, Entertainment Memorabilia, and Clothing, Shoes & Accessories. If you sell in these areas, please be sure to take a look at the new category structure on Seller Central here. In many cases, coordinating Item Specifics updates will also be made.

Updated Categories:

ANTIQUES
We're expanding Antiques in almost every area. Highlights include a new Home & Hearth section for items like antique stoves, bathtubs and baby carriages, and another new section called Mercantile, Trades & Factories for such business-related antiques as typewriters, barber chairs and cash registers. Finally, a new Restoration & Care section for items to help extend the life of your antiques.

CLOTHING, SHOES & ACCESSORIES
We’re creating a separation between Costumes & Reenactment Attire and adding new categories under each. Look for many new categories in Infants & Toddlers as well as Boys and Girls clothing. We've renamed the Wedding Apparel section to Wedding Apparel & Accessories and have added more subsections here for that special day. Also look for lots of additions in Women's Accessories, Women's Clothing, Unisex Clothing, and a new expanded section for Children's Vintage Clothing.

COLLECTIBLES
In Native Americana, we're changing the category date breakdown to conform with the Indian Arts & Crafts Act. Also look for this year's summer blockbusters in Pins, Buttons and Trading Cards.

CRAFTS
We're adding a new section for Mosaic/Stained Glass/Glass Art under Art Supplies.

ELECTRONICS (formerly Consumer Electronics)
Many categories are being removed to eliminate redundancy between categories and Item Specifics. If you sell in this area, please look over the changes by following the link above and take advantage of Item Specifics on your listings.

We've renamed Consumer Electronics to simply "Electronics" to highlight that this area includes professional as well as consumer equipment. In August, we're adding a Pro Audio & Stage Effects area, including DJ Gear, Lighting Effects, Mixers and Amplifiers.

ENTERTAINMENT MEMORABILIA
Look for category additions in almost every section.

JEWELRY & WATCHES
As we begin Phase 1 of a two-phase project in Jewelry, we have created a new section for Fine Jewelry. This section was designed to spotlight non-vintage, non-bridal jewelry composed entirely of genuine gemstones and solid, unplated precious metals. If you are a seller of such items, we encourage you to list your jewelry in this new section and to adopt eBay Item Specifics to optimize visibility. In Vintage & Antique Jewelry, we'll be making changes to the structure so that buyers will be able to choose their era of interest before they pick the material of the piece. We're also adding a third level, classifying jewelry type. Many items will be moved into "Other" categories during this transition, so we do encourage sellers who list in this area to evaluate the upcoming changes and move their listings into the new categories as soon as they become available.

We've also created a separate section for Engagement/Wedding/Anniversary Jewelry to highlight these popular items. Here too, we recommend adopting eBay Item Specifics to so that more buyers can find your listing.

Finally, look for increased alignment with the UK eBay site to enable more cross-border trade.

MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS
The Clarinet and Saxophone categories will get separate sections for Vintage instruments and Accessories. Also, we've moved the Pro Audio section out of Musical Instruments and into Electronics.

SPORTING GOODS
In the Water Sports section, look for increased visibility of Wetsuits & Drysuits and Fins, Footwear & Gloves.

TOYS & HOBBIES
In the Slot Cars section, we’ve flipped the structure so buyers can browse by scale first, then era.

TRAVEL
Look for brand-new sections for Campground & RV Parks, Maps and Travel Accessories. We're also removing categories in Lodging that duplicate Item Specifics.
