***Consumer Product Safety Commission - Children's Items Recalled the Week of February 25th*** |
 |
 |
 |
February 28, 2008 | 05:01PM PST/PT

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) recently issued a recall for the following items:
- Majestic Curved Top and Flat Top Cribs, Essex Cribs, Brighton/Sussex Cribs, and Captiva Cribs due to a fall hazard
- Children's Metal Necklaces due to a lead paint hazard
- FUN 'N SAFE Magnetic Dart Boards due to an aspiration hazard
eBay takes recalled items very seriously, and we work closely with the Consumer Product Safety Commission on these issues. We encourage buyers and sellers to visit http://www.cpsc.gov (see the Recent Recalls section) for more details about the products and model numbers included in this recall. You may also wish to visit our Recalled Items policy at http://pages.ebay.com/help/policies/recalled.html.
For Sellers: Please check your product model numbers and refrain from listing any items that are part of this recall. Any currently listed items that are included in the recall should be ended.
For Buyers: If you believe an item you are interested in bidding on or purchasing may be part of this recall, we encourage you to use the Ask Seller a Question feature to verify.
As a service to our Community, eBay announces some product recalls, like these, when we believe the marketplace will be impacted. To stay informed about all CPSC recalls, please bookmark www.cpsc.gov and sign up to receive notices on new recalls issued by the CPSC.

***Now Available - Repeat Feedback Credit for Buyers and Sellers *** |
 |
 |
 |
February 28, 2008 | 11:02AM PST/PT

| Brian Burke |
Hello...this is Brian Burke, Director of Feedback Policy at eBay. As the Community knows, several changes were announced in January as part of Evolving Feedback. Our first change gives sellers and buyers the opportunity to earn up to one Feedback point per week (Monday through Sunday, Pacific time) from the same trading partner.
We've begun providing credit for repeat Feedback for transactions ending on or after Tuesday, February 19th. We've also made some cosmetic changes to the Feedback Profile page to reflect this change. What's more – coming in May, we will provide credit for ALL repeat transactions that occurred between 1996 and February 2008. (We'll be introducing the other Feedback changes announced in January in that timeframe, as well.)
With this change, now sellers will get the credit they deserve when their great service and selection results in repeat buyers -- they can also reward loyal buyers with repeat Feedback, as well.
Sincerely,
Brian Burke
Director, Global Feedback Policy

Hi everyone...it's Alan Lewis again. I'm proud to let you know that eBay Desktop is now out of beta, and version 1.0 is available at http://desktop.ebay.com. As I outlined in my previous announcement directly below, eBay Desktop lets you take care of most of your normal eBay activity without having to use your web browser.
With eBay Desktop you can search and browse, watch, and bid on items, and use new features like feeds and popup alerts. The eBay Desktop interface is slick and easy to use, and we've even added a video tutorial to help you get started.
Thanks to your feedback and suggestions during our beta period, we've streamlined the tool and focused on making the application more stable and even faster. Plus we've added a few new features, such as the "all feed items" option, which lets you see items from all your favorite sellers and searches on one screen.

Public Beta Launch of the eBay Desktop*** |

 |
 |
 |
 |
 October 02, 2007 | 10:00AM PST/PT

| Alan Lewis |
Hey everyone...I'm Alan Lewis, and I'm here to tell you about eBay Desktop - an exciting new product we are launching in beta today.
In a nutshell, eBay Desktop lets you take care of most of your normal eBay activity – without having to use your web browser. You can search, bid on, and watch items right from the eBay Desktop application, all while getting alerts about their status. One of the features I like most is the Favorite Search feed, which lets you download items from your favorite searches and browse through them, even when you're not online!
Of course, describing these features in text doesn't do them justice – check out the screenshot below, and try it out for yourself! Thousands of users have been helping us test early versions of eBay Desktop over the past year, and have given us hundreds of awesome suggestions on how to improve the product. Today, we’re inviting everyone in the entire eBay Community to give it a whirl through our public beta. It's fun, it's easy to use, and it's free!
Most importantly, let us know what you think! eBay Desktop has a built-in product feedback tool, and I encourage you to use it to give us your thoughts. Or if you prefer, you can send a note to sneakpeek@ebay.com with your comments and suggestions.
Thanks for trying out eBay Desktop!
Sincerely,
Alan Lewis

***A Message from Lorrie Norrington – New Media Category Pricing Effective February 20*** |
 |
 |
 |
February 11, 2008 | 10:01AM PST/PT

| Lorrie Norrington |
Hello...This is Lorrie Norrington, President of eBay Global Marketplace Operations. By now I hope you've had the chance to watch the Keynote and Executive Q&A webcasts from our annual eCommerce Forum held recently in Washington D.C. I can't think of a better way to start my new role than spending two and half days in discussions with many eBay sellers. I want you to know I'm committed to consistent communication, action and follow through. As a result, I'd like to let you know about our next steps:
1. To make immediate changes where we believe it benefits the health of our marketplace: We heard your comments about the need for media and category-specific pricing. Today, I am pleased to announce we are accelerating our plan to phase-in category-specific pricing for media. This fee cut will coincide with the site-wide pricing changes previously announced to take effect on February 20. In the Books, Music, Movies and Video Game software categories, we will be offering even lower insertion fees for the first three insertion tiers as follows:
$0.01 – 0.99 (auction-style only)
Original Categories Insertion Fee: $ .20
New Media fee: $ .10
$1.00 - 9.99 (auction-style and fixed price)
Original Categories Insertion Fee: $ .40
New Media fee: $ .25
$10.00 – 24.99 (auction-style and fixed price)
Original Categories Insertion Fee: $ .60
New Media fee: $ .35
2. To closely monitor the marketplace to ensure the changes we've made have the intended impact: We heard many of our sellers believe the shipping Detailed Seller Rating (DSR) needs to be re-examined. Also, we heard you when you said you wanted us to be transparent about participation in the PowerSeller discount program. Let me be clear: our goal is to improve the buyer experience so much that at least 50% of our PowerSellers qualify for discounts. We will run these changes as announced in Washington D.C., but we will closely monitor the data. If buyer trust in the marketplace is not improving as intended within the next six months, we will take action.
3. To stick with the changes we believe are right for the marketplace: We will proceed with our plans to evolve our feedback system and with the weighting of Detailed Seller Ratings (DSRs) in search, as announced. They are both central to our plans and will aid in providing a great buying experience from sellers buyers can trust.
Finally, I'd like to take this opportunity to share with you how excited and honored I am to be serving the eBay Community. You have helped us to build an incredible marketplace over the years. I passionately believe that great service will lead to great customer experiences in 2008. I'm very committed to helping the eBay marketplace to become even more successful for you in today's competitive environment.
We literally cannot do this without you. The changes we announced better align our shared interests. By rewarding and differentiating our best partners, we will together deliver more of the great shopping experiences found nowhere else but on eBay.
Sincerely,
Lorrie Norrington
President, eBay Global Marketplace Operations

***Updated: Consumer Product Safety Commission - Additional Children's Items Recalled the Week of February 4th*** |
 |
 |
 |
February 08, 2008 | 09:47AM PST/PT
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) recently issued a recall of Trek MT220 girls bicycles, pendants and candle charms and transparent toy egg shakers due to a breakage, lead paint and/or choking hazard.
In addition, the Evenflo Co. issued a voluntary recall of the "Discover Infant" car seat models 390, 391, 534, 552. After testing, it was found that the seats could become disengaged from the base during a collision.
eBay takes recalled items very seriously, and we work closely with the Consumer Product Safety Commission on these issues. We encourage buyers and sellers to visit http://www.cpsc.gov (See the Recent Recalls section) for more details about the products and model numbers included in this recall. You may also wish to visit our Recalled Items policy at http://pages.ebay.com/help/policies/recalled.html

***Trading Advisory: Southern States Impacted by Storms/Tornadoes*** |
 |
 |
 |
February 06, 2008 | 01:26PM PST/PT

Devastating storms and tornadoes struck several Southern states yesterday, including Arkansas, Tennessee, Kentucky, Mississippi, and Alabama. Our thoughts go out to the people in these regions who have been affected.
If you are involved in an eBay transaction with a member in this area, please be patient, as their ability to communicate, pay, ship, and generally complete the transaction may be affected.

***Coming Soon: Changes to eBay Item Specifics and Pre-filled Item Information in Several Categories*** |
 |
 |
 |
February 06, 2008 | 10:35AM PST/PT
We plan to add eBay Item Specifics to the following category in early February:
- Cards - Sports Memorabilia, Cards, & Fan Shop
The new Item Specifics will make it easier for buyers to find cards from specific seasons. Buyers will also now have the
flexibility to see all cards, only graded cards, or only ungraded cards.
To learn more about Item Specifics please visit the Item Specifics Overview page.
We'll also be adding Pre-filled Item Information in the following categories in late February:
- Art:
- Drawings
- Folk Art
- Paintings
- Photo Images
- Prints
- Posters
- Sculpture
- Athletic Apparel for Men, Women, and Children
- Athletic Footwear for Men, Women, and Children
Pre-filled Item Information is completely optional, and gives sellers an easy way to add basic, standard information to
their listing. Examples include brands, models, colors, and stock photos. Using Pre-Filled Item
Information can help save sellers time, and provides buyers with helpful information when searching for items to
purchase.
Note: Sellers who use a 3rd party listing service (ChannelAdvisor, etc.), should contact them to verify that they will offer
the Pre-filled Item Information capabilities in the categories listed above.
If you have any comments or suggestions about these changes, please email taxonomy@ebay.com.
