***Upcoming Workshops: Wholesale Pricing, Skype for Customer Service, Buying Safely, Pricing of Freight Shipping, and Getting Holiday Shoppers*** |
 |
 |
 |
November 30, 2007 | 05:43PM PST/PT

We would like to invite you to attend the following workshops this week:
Understanding Wholesale Pricing
This workshop will be held on Tuesday, December 4th from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Pacific time.
Understanding wholesale pricing is very important to running your business. If you don't understand the different pricing tiers, you may get discouraged when you see other retailers selling the same product for a cheaper price. Colette Marshall, Business Development Manager for product sourcing experts WorldwideBrands.com, will help you understand how the wholesale structure works when it comes to purchasing products, and how to compete with the current market, even if you can’t get the best possible price.
Use Skype to Close More Business
This workshop will be held on Wednesday, December 5th from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Pacific time.
Looking for new, efficient ways to move your business forward? Need to boost long-term loyalty and referrals? Join Pat Kelley from OnState to learn how OnState ACD for Skype is the cost-effective, scalable call center that can differentiate your customer service.
How to Buy Safely Online
This workshop will be held on Wednesday, December 5th from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Pacific time.
The holiday season is now in full swing, and that means plenty of online shopping fun. And in the frenzy of all that gift buying for your friends and family, we're here to help you do it as safely as possible. Please join PayPal, eBay Trust and Safety and the Federal Trade Commission for a workshop on how to buy safely online. We'll include tips how to avoid identity theft, and how to spot phishing emails and spoof web sites. We'll also offer some additional steps you can take to protect your account. If you want to get the best out of your holiday online experience while remaining safer, this workshop is for you. In the meantime, make sure to visit the FTC's OnGuard Online site to view their 10 Tips for Smart Holiday Shopping.
Best Practices In Pricing of Freight and Options
This workshop will be held on Thursday, December 6th from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Pacific time.
Join the Freightquote team as they present the various options that are available when shipping large or heavy items. You will also get tips and information for shipping furniture, shipping freight or shipping express, and info on packaging requirements and special services. Join this workshop to learn how to save money, avoid damage, and generally minimize headaches when you need to ship large items you are selling or buying.
How to Get those Last Minute Holiday Shoppers
This workshop will be held on Friday, December 7th from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Pacific time.
With only a couple of weeks left in the holiday shopping season, the smart eBay seller knows how important it is to select end times carefully in order to optimize profits! In this workshop, the team at Terapeak will look at the best time to end your listings for those last-minute eBay holiday shoppers. Using the research from Terapeak, which is based on actual closed listing data from eBay, you can leverage past transactional information to improve your future listings and make more money.
Workshops are hosted in discussion threads on the Workshops Board. To get to the Workshops Board:
- Go to www.ebay.com
- Click on Community at the top of the page
- Click on "Workshops" in the "Events" section
- This will bring you to the threaded Workshops Board

Hi everyone...I'm here to let you know it's time again for our eBay Groups Holiday Open House. Last year's Holiday Open House was a lot of fun (and informative) for Group members and newcomers alike, and this year looks to be even better.

eBay takes recalled items very seriously, and we work closely with the Consumer Product Safety Commission on these issues. For Sellers: Please check your product model numbers and refrain from listing any items that are part of this recall. Any currently listed items that are included in the recall should be ended.
For Buyers: If you believe an item you are interested in bidding on or purchasing may be part of this recall, we encourage you to use the Ask Seller a Question feature to verify.
As a service to our Community, eBay announces some product recalls, like this one, when we believe the marketplace will be impacted. To stay informed about all CPSC recalls, please bookmark http://www.cpsc.gov and sign up to receive notices on new recalls issued by the CPSC.

***News from Rob Chesney: Try Out The New eBay Motors*** |
 |
 |
 |
November 26, 2007 | 12:12PM PST/PT

| Rob Chesney |
Hi everyone...I'm Rob Chesney, Vice President of eBay Motors. As many people know, we've been testing a new version of the eBay Motors site since February (Read my previous announcement).
Our goal is simple - make eBay Motors a one-stop destination for people shopping for vehicles or auto parts and accessories.
It's easy to get started – buyers can browse by car type or jump right to a particular make/model. And because buyers in these categories often need to do their homework before making a purchase, we've integrated industry-leading research and other information right into the shopping experience. We've also added new ways to refine searches to help them easily find what they're looking for. Check out our tutorial for an overview of these changes.
Thank you for your input
The Motors team and I would like to thank the thousands of members who have helped us test the new Motors site over the last several months. Your feedback has been invaluable as we've worked to fine-tune these changes. In fact, we've made significant changes based on the input you've given us. For instance, we've moved the navigation and search options from the top of the page to the left-hand side of search results so that more listings display higher on the page. We've also made it possible to browse across an entire category – such as browsing all of "Boats" – which was difficult to do before. Finally, we've heard you loud and clear, and have added back the ability to search by both title and description.
Try out the new eBay Motors! A Phased Introduction
I'm very pleased to let you know we're ready to make the new eBay Motors available to the entire Community. While you'll still see the current site as the default, you'll be able to try out the new version at any time starting soon.
This will start a phased introduction of the new site – we want you to get used to the new features and look on your own schedule. Use the "Try it now" link on our search results pages to get to the new site. You'll also be able to switch back to the current eBay Motors site if you wish.
If you were part of our earlier tests, you'll continue to see the new eBay Motors by default (although you can switch back to the current eBay Motors).
Early next year we will make the new eBay Motors the default experience, although you'll still be able to switch back to the current site. Later in 2008, we’ll make the new eBay Motors the standard for all customers.
Keeping sending us your comments
While we're out of our official testing phases, we're always looking to improve the site. Keep using the survey and the eBay Motors discussion forum to share your thoughts and suggestions.
On behalf of the entire eBay Motors team, thanks for your support, and happy holidays!
Sincerely,
Rob Chesney
Vice President, eBay Motors

***Best of eBay*** |
 |
 |
 |
November 19, 2007 | 02:21PM PST/PT

| Nii Ahene |
Hi everyone...this is Nii Ahene from eBay's Engagement team. Remember the toasted cheese sandwich that looked like the
Virgin Mary? Or the inflatable life-size church? While eBay has always been a great place to buy and sell – it's also been a
haven for those of us with a penchant for the quirky, the unusual, or the inspiring. I’m here to announce the arrival of the
Best of eBay, which will showcase the most popular, eccentric,
interesting and unique listings on eBay.
One of the greatest things about this is that the “best” is determined by the people who come to eBay every day to buy, sell,
interact and have fun. The Best of eBay lets you nominate the most interesting listings, vote on your favorite ones, and
talk about them with others.
Here are some details:
- Nominate Listings. As an eBay member, you can nominate listings you find on eBay – they can be fun, eccentric,
different, interesting…whatever captures your attention! Just look for the "Nominate to Best of eBay" button and follow the
instructions.
- Place Your Votes. Vote for the nominated listings and see which ones rise to the top. Voting is easy – you just
click on the "Vote for this Item" button icon located to the right of each item.
- Make Your Voice Heard. Add your comments to the Best of eBay nominees to back up your votes. You can also share
your favorite nominees with all your friends with the "Email to a Friend" link at the bottom of each listing.
Remember, Best of eBay is nominated and voted on by you, so find those
listings and place your votes! To learn more, visit the Best of eBay page at bestof.ebay.com
Sincerely,
Nii Ahene

***Upcoming Workshops: Taxes 101, Email Marketing, & the Shipping area on SYI *** |
 |
 |
 |
November 16, 2007 | 01:46PM PST/PT

We would like to invite you to attend the following workshops next week:
All About Sales and Use Taxes
This workshop will be held on Monday, November 19th from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Pacific time.
When it comes to selling on the Internet, navigating your way through sales and use tax issues can be a tricky order! Do I have to pay when I'm selling personal items? Who do I pay, and how? Do I charge sales tax on shipping? In this seminar we'll be talking about the who-what-when-where-why and HOW of state sales and use tax issues. Join us for this session and learn how to keep your business on the right track
How to Increase Your Sales with Email Relationship Marketing
This workshop will be held on Tuesday, November 20th from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Pacific time.
In the vast expanse of the Internet, the online shopping experience frequently feels impersonal and generic to your buyers. In 2008 small business owners who invest time in building a relationship with their customers will come out the clear winners. Please join Lisa Suttora Founder/CEO of Certified Provider WhatDoISell.com and best-selling author of "What to Sell on eBay and Where to Get It" (from McGraw-Hill publishers) as she discusses how to use Email Relationship Marketing to engage your customers, foster buyer loyalty, and grow your business to new heights.
The shipping section in the Sell Your Item Form
This workshop will be held on Tuesday, November 20th from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. . Pacific time.
Shipping is one of the most critical elements in your eBay listing. Please join the seller experience product management team as they review the recent changes to the shipping section, explain the various tools we provide so sellers can estimate shipping costs, and answer any questions concerning shipping and the sell your item form.
Workshops are hosted in discussion threads on the Workshops Board. To get to the Workshops Board:
- Go to www.ebay.com
- Click on Community at the top of the page
- Click on "Workshops" in the "Events" section

***eBay Giving Works: Spotlight on a Cause*** |
 |
 |
 |
November 15, 2007 | 03:56PM PST/PT

| Jennifer Ibarra |
Hi everyone, this is Jennifer Ibarra with eBay Giving Works. As we head into the holiday season, many of us are thinking about the gifts we plan to give (and perhaps wishing for a few we hope to receive!) For many of us, this is also the time of year we reflect on the world around us and support the causes we're passionate about.
As Kristin mentioned in her previous announcement we have several exciting campaigns that I want to tell you about. As you contemplate this holiday season of giving, I'd like to share with you information about an exciting contest we're kicking off this week!
Spotlight on a Cause
Throughout the year, we rally the Community around various causes to raise money and awareness – you may know these as our regular Spotlight on a Cause campaigns. We're featuring several worthy causes right now through the months of November and December. Please visit Spotlight on Children in Need, Spotlight on Global Poverty, and Spotlight on Fighting AIDS, to buy and sell items to support certified nonprofit organizations doing very important work in these areas.
7th on Sale charity auction
We are also incredibly happy to welcome back the 7th on Sale charity auction as part of the Spotlight on Fighting AIDS campaign. More than 6,000 one-of-a-kind -- and often celebrity-owned -- clothing and other fabulous finds will be included in 7th on Sale this year. The items are available online on eBay, beginning November 15, and at the public sale slated for November 16, 17 and 18 in New York City.
Similar to the event held on eBay in 2005, these luxury items donated directly from celebrities and designers will be listed and available for you to bid on, with 100% of the proceeds being distributed by the New York City AIDS Fund to various HIV and AIDS organizations.
Beneficiaries over the years have included dozens of worthy organizations, including AIDS Community Research Initiative of America (ACRIA), Alpha Workshops, amfAR, Gay Men's Health Crisis, God's Love We Deliver, Greenhope Services for Women, Harlem United Community AIDS Center, HIV Law Project, and the Latino Commission on AIDS.
"Shoot. Share. Win!" video contest
Since 2003, eBay Giving Works has helped thousands in the eBay Community raise funds for a wide variety of incredible causes. Together, we have helped rescue animals, rebuild homes for disaster survivors, fund research to find cures for diseases, provide food and shelter for those struggling to make ends meet, give children hope for a brighter future, and much more.
Are you one of the many people who has made a lasting impact on your community or the world around you with eBay Giving Works? Share your story and you could win $5,000!
The eBay Giving Works "Shoot. Share. Win!" video contest will run from November 15 to December 5. Simply submit a 30-60 second video testimonial telling us how eBay Giving Works has helped you make a difference for your organization, or an organization you support. The Community will vote for one grand prize winner in three categories (Buyer, Seller, and Nonprofit), with each grand prize winner winning $5,000.
Don't have a video to submit? Share in the fun by voting for the winners between December 20 to January 2, and you could be one of five lucky voters will win a $1,000 shopping spree on eBay!
For more details on how to submit a video, or participate in the voting sweepstakes, please visit http://www.ebay.com/shootsharewin.
We appreciate all your support this holiday season, and wish you happy bidding (and filming)!
Sincerely,
Jennifer Ibarra

***Updated: The New My eBay*** |
 |
 |
 |
November 15, 2007 | 03:12PM PST/PT

| Blair Hamilton |
Hi everyone. I'm back with an update about the new My eBay. You've probably heard about the beta version of the new My eBay through our Sneak Peek page or my previous announcement. But in case you haven't, we've been testing out the new beta version of My eBay with a small group of members for the past few months (read my initial note below for all the details).
We've received some great feedback, and have incorporated several suggestions that we think will make the new version of My eBay an even more powerful tool for our members. We're also going to start transitioning our newer members to the new version of My eBay in the next few days.
New features
Here are some of the key improvements we've made recently:
- More watched items are displayed on the My eBay Today page.
- A new item preview layer. Just hover with your mouse over the item picture or Enlarge link to see the preview.
- New Shortcuts module. This new area contains links to important eBay pages. Even better, you can customize this list any way you want, or even create your own shortcuts.
We're also adding "Selling Totals" -- a highly requested feature -- in the next few weeks. This will allow sellers to quickly find out how their sales are doing in terms of the total number as well as the dollar value.
What happens next?
In the next few days, we're going to make the new My eBay the default view for about 25% of our members, most of whom will be relatively new to eBay. You’ll still be able to opt-out and use the current version if you wish. In 2008, we'll begin making the new My eBay the default for more of our members.
Sincerely,
Blair Hamilton

The New My eBay - Initial Beta Invitation*** |
 |
 |
 |
 |
 |
 August 29, 2007 | 03:08PM PST/PT

| Blair Hamilton |
Hello everyone...I'm Blair Hamilton, a product manager for My eBay. It's a big week around here for the My eBay team! We're thrilled to announce the beta launch of the new My eBay. (You may have read about the new My eBay at www.ebay.com/sneakpeek or seen our eBay Chatter blog post.)
After months and months of research, product design and development, and many discussions with buyers and sellers, we're excited for members to start kicking the tires. Over the next few days, we'll be inviting a small percentage of Community members to experience the new My eBay beta. People in this randomly selected group should receive an email in My Messages very soon.
This beta invitation is completely optional, and you can enter and leave the new beta at any time. However, your participation in the beta is really important to us, and we hope you will use the new functionality, and let us know what you think.
Didn't receive an invitation? Don't worry – you can join the beta soon! We'll be extending our invitation to join the beta to more members in the next several weeks.
As I said, we really want and need your input and feedback! Plus, we hope you are excited to try this new experience, too. Some of the more noteworthy and exciting features of the new My eBay that I hope inspire you include:
- Item Preview – View pertinent details and larger pictures of an item you are watching or bidding on without going to the view item page.
- Re-bid from My eBay - Increase your max bid without leaving My eBay.
- Meet the Seller - See a snapshot of critical seller information such as Detailed Seller Ratings, and links to a Seller's eBay Store or other items.
- Personal notes for all your items - Leave yourself helpful reminders, such as "this is the size I need" or "this is the color Mom wants."
- Personalized item recommendations - Based on your previous activity, eBay will offer new suggestions for items you might like.
Tentative Launch Plans
Everyone at eBay understands how important My eBay is to buyers and sellers. For many people, My eBay is the hub of their daily eBay activity. Because it's so central, we want to make sure you know what to expect during the launch.
We're taking a slow, cautious approach to testing and rolling this out to the Community. We've shared our tentative timeline below, although these times and plans can change if we encounter unexpected issues:
- Next few days - Less than 1% of our members will be invited to opt in to our Beta.
- Early September - An increased number of eBay members will be able to opt-in to see the new My eBay beta. You will be able to "opt-out," or switch back to the current My eBay experience, as often and whenever you like.
- End of October - Additional features will be added to the new My eBay.
- Early 2008 – Start to migrate buyers and sellers to the new My eBay.
As always, your feedback and support is appreciated. Stay tuned for upcoming workshops and more My eBay news. And please send us your thoughts, comments, ideas at myebaybeta@ebay.com.
Sincerely,
Blair Hamilton

I’m pleased to let you know that this year’s challenge considers sales on eBay.com, eBay Express, Half.com, eBay

targets and eligible sales towards the target. The following listings are excluded: Live Auctions, Ad Format, Vehicles, Real
Estate and Business & Industrial Capital Equipment. (Get full terms and conditions for the Challenge
and official rules for the
Sweepstakes.)

***Original:
Introducing: Guest Buying*** |
 |
 |
 |
 |
 |
 November 05, 2007 | 02:56PM PST/PT

| Evan Liang |
Hello...I'm Evan Liang with eBay's Buyer Experience team. With the busy holiday season rapidly approaching, I'm excited to announce that we're launching Guest Buying, a new feature that we believe will help increase the number of new buyers who purchase sellers' Fixed Price and Store Inventory listings.
Why Guest Buying?
We've done a lot of research about buying habits as the Internet has evolved, and have been told repeatedly that requiring new buyers to register before they have a chance to really interact with eBay is a barrier to them taking the plunge (this is the same reason we introduced My eBay for Guests awhile back).
Today many online buyers expect to be able to visit a site and simply purchase and pay for an item with minimum hassle. Introducing Guest Buying will help encourage more first purchases by new buyers.
Here's how it works:
- Guest buyers will be able to use Buy It Now to purchase eligible Fixed Price and Store Inventory items.
- Guest buyers need to complete their payment through PayPal before the item is theirs, similar to Immediate Payment.
- Your current PayPal settings will apply – if you require buyers to pay with a confirmed address, your Guest Buyers will need to do so as well.
Which listings are eligible for Guest Buying?
Your listings will be eligible to be purchased by Guest Buyers if you meet the following criteria:
- You must have a premier/business PayPal account in order to accept credit card payments.
- Shipping costs must be specified on your listing.
- You must qualify for the top tier of buyer protection of $2,000.
- The item price must be less than $2,000.
- You must use eBay's checkout system. Third-party checkout will not be supported at this time.
Can Guest Buyers leave feedback?
No – at least not until they register. eBay will encourage Guest Buyers to register once they make a purchase. Once they do, they'll be able to use all the same features and programs our current buyers do, such as Feedback, Buyer Protection, access to Customer Support, etc.
The Launch Plan
We're going to introduce Guest Buying slowly over the next few weeks. We're going to start by making it available in our Music, Books, DVDs & Movies, and Consumer Electronics categories in the next few days, and will add more categories shortly thereafter. Within a few weeks, Guest Buying should be available sitewide.
Sincerely,
Evan Liang

***Making It Easier to Find Items Locally -- Updated*** |
 |
 |
 |
November 14, 2007 | 01:43PM PST/PT

| Valerie Rozycki |
Hi everyone, I'm Valerie Rozycki. My team and I are focused on making it easier for members to trade locally, which can be a great way to save on shipping costs and time. Currently you can search for items within a specific distance of your ZIP Code by using the Location filter found under Search Options on the left-hand side of search results, or through Advanced Search.
Over the next few weeks, we'll add a few new tools to help you more easily find items near you.
Recommendations in Search Results
You've probably seen the recommendations we'll show occasionally at the top of search results to help you find more items. For example, if you search on "shirt button" we'll probably show you a message to also try searching on "button" in the Clothing, Shoes & Accessories category. We're now going to add a new recommendation when we think it might be helpful to you to search for your item locally.
This new recommendation will tell you how many items for your search are located near you (you can also see it automatically by including your ZIP Code in your search). Simply click the link if you'd like to narrow down your results to just these items.
New Local page
We're creating a new local page that will give you the ability to quickly search and browse for local items. You can get to it by clicking the new "Search Locally: link that will be added to the Buy hub, or directly there by plugging your ZIP Code into this URL: http://local.ebay.com/ZIP. For example, if I wanted to search for items near our headquarters here in San Jose I'd use http://local.ebay.com/95125.
Sellers - How to make sure your items are appearing in local searches
To make sure your items appear when buyers look for items locally, simply list with your ZIP or postal code in your Item Location. If you don't want your items to appear in local search results, simply list without your ZIP or postal code in your Item Location.
We'll update you when these new features and the new Local pages are fully functional. Thanks for your support!
Sincerely,
Valerie Rozycki

***eBay Giving Works: Faster Fee Credit & Other Improvements*** |
 |
 |
 |
November 13, 2007 | 09:44AM PST/PT

| Kristin Cunningham |
Hi everyone, this is Kristin Cunningham with eBay
Giving Works, our dedicated program for charity listings. eBay Giving Works
allows you to donate part or all of your final sale price to a certified nonprofit
organization, and our Community has used it as a powerful force for good. Earlier
this year we welcomed our 10,000th nonprofit to the program (we now have close
to 12,000!), and to date you’ve donated over $118 million globally for a
wide variety of great causes.
I’m here now to introduce two improvements that will make it even easier
to use eBay Giving Works.
Faster Fee Credit
When you create an eBay Giving Works listing and it sells, we'll credit your
Insertion and Final Value Fees back to you, equal to the percentage of the sale
price that you chose to donate. (For example, if you donated 30%, you'd get
30% of your fees back.)
In the past, it's taken 6-8 weeks for the credit to be manually processed,
but no more. As of Monday, November 5th, credits will be automatically applied
when your listing sells and reflected on your next invoice! (All listings that
sold prior to the 5th will have the fees credited through our old process.)
To learn more about how listings quality for the eBay Giving Works fee credit,
visit givingworks.ebay.com/feecredit.
New ribbon in My eBay
Our sellers have asked us for a way to distinguish their eBay Giving Works listings
from their other listings within My eBay. Starting in the next few weeks, we’ll
show the charity ribbon ( )
in the Selling section of My eBay so you can see at a glance which items you’ve
listed for a cause.
New lower minimum donation percentage for Motors Vehicles category
Due to the often high average selling prices of items sold in the eBay Motors
Vehicles category, sellers in this category have told us that the 10% minimum
donation sometimes prevents them from creating eBay Giving Works listings. To
give Motors Vehicles sellers the opportunity to support their favorite causes
more often, we have lowered the minimum donation percentage to 5% for this category.
Please note, the 10% minimum donation will still be in place for all other categories
(including Parts and Accessories in eBay Motors).
We hope these changes will encourage you to use eBay Giving Works more often
and continue making a difference – your generosity and passion is truly
making an impact! (And stay tuned for more information coming soon about several
exciting charitable campaigns we have coming up.)
Sincerely,
Kristin Cunningham

 |
 |
 |
November 09, 2007 | 05:29PM PST/PT

We would like to invite you to attend the following workshops next week:
5 Essentials to Prepare Your Store for 2008
This workshop will be held on Monday, November 12th from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Pacific time.
Put your store's "best face forward" in 2008! Please join Debbie Levitt, President of eBay Certified Provider As Was, and Lisa Suttora, Founder/CEO of Certified Provider WhatDoISell.com, as they discuss the 5 essentials you need to know to get your business off to a strong start in 2008! They'll also take questions, and look at one Store each from workshop attendees and give their feedback on the Store's design and setup.
Selling with Best Offer and its latest enhancement - Auto Accept
This workshop will be held on Monday, November 12th from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Pacific time.
Best Offer is the eBay selling format that allows sellers to accept offers from buyers or negotiate a price, all online via eBay. Best Offer gives you a better chance to sell your items, added visibility in search and browse, and the ability to determine the right market value for an item using the Fixed Price format. And did we mention that this is a free feature? Come learn how to sell with Best Offer and its latest enhancement - Auto Accept.
Avoid Holiday Headaches with Customer Support Tools
This workshop will be held on Tuesday, November 13th from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Pacific time.
Steve Yeich, CEO of Certified Solution Provider HostedSupport, will discuss how sellers can avoid many of the headaches that arise during the peak holiday sales season by using customer support tools. Accounting Made Easy
This workshop will be held on Wednesday, November 14th from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Pacific time.
Perhaps the single most important aspect of your business is the part that no one ever sees - unless you do it wrong. We're talking about your accounting and record-keeping. Good accounting helps keep your business on track, and provides the back-up you need in case the IRS ever audits you. Please join best selling-author and CPA Diane Kennedy for an information-packed hour to learn how to make accounting easier.
How to win more auctions with eBay Countdown
This workshop will be held on Thursday, November 15th from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Pacific time.
Please join the eBay Countdown team to learn about this new buyer tool from eBay. They'll introduce eBay Countdown and provide details about to utilize this tool to win more auctions. The team will also explain how to utilize item alerts for your watch and bid list items, how to leverage one-click bidding, and how to use the deal search to find relevant items of interest.
Tips to Maximize your eBay Business This Holiday Season
This workshop will be held on Friday, November 16th from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Pacific time.
The National Retail Federation (NRF) predicted that "spending will be a bit restrained this holiday season" and that over 68% of consumers will be looking to discounters for their gifting needs. This amounts to a huge opportunity for eBay sellers to significantly increase holiday sales and gain new customers. To maximize this opportunity, sellers need to think strategically about their holiday plan, starting with the first critical step of inventory sourcing. Please join Julie Davis and Steve Kuertz of Liquidation.com as they discuss tips to finding the right inventory at the right price this holiday season.
Workshops are hosted in discussion threads on the Workshops Board. To get to the Workshops Board:
- Go to www.ebay.com
- Click on Community at the top of the page
- Click on "Workshops" in the "Events" section
- This will bring you to the threaded Workshops Board
To view archived workshops or to learn more about future workshop events, please check our Workshops Calendar.
Want timely reminders about workshops? We recommend two ways to make sure you never miss an important workshop:
- Sign up for the Workshops Information Group! By joining this group, you will receive an email notification reminding you about
upcoming eBay Workshops. (To sign up for the Workshops Information Group, please click here.)
- Subscribe to the RSS feed for the Workshop board. When a new workshop becomes active, your RSS reader will be
updated. (You can also subscribe to just the specific topic thread that interests you.) To subscribe, click on the

***Updated: PowerSeller Program Changes Are Here*** |
 |
 |
 |
November 09, 2007 | 01:00PM PST/PT

| Edurne Jorda |
Hi everyone, this is Edurne Jorda again with our Seller Development group. At eBay Live! in Boston this year, we told you about some exciting (and long-requested) changes to the PowerSeller program that would be taking place this fall. I'm very pleased to be back to announce that these changes will take place as of November 15th.
To recap, we're expanding the program to include both high volume "seasonal" sellers and sellers who move a high volume, but with a low average sales price. In addition, Bronze PowerSellers who meet our annual sales requirements will have access to phone support, just like Silver PowerSellers. For more details, please go to the PowerSeller Portal.
These are all part of our ongoing effort to provide more service and support to our PowerSellers, for the vital role you play in keeping buyers happy and coming back to eBay.
Keep up the good work!
Sincerely,
Edurne Jorda

***Consumer Product Safety Commission - Toys Recalled Week of Nov 5th*** |
 |
 |
 |
November 08, 2007 | 04:31PM PST/PT
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) recently issued a recall of certain children's items due to a lead or toxic chemical exposure risk, the risk of choking/strangulation, fire or electric shock hazard. The products include Aqua Dots, Laugh & Learn Learning Kitchen toys, Pull-Back Action toy cars, Duck Family Collectible Wind-Up toys, “Skippy” pool toys, Dragster and Funny Car toys, “Big Red” Wagons, Dizzy Ducks Music Boxes, Winnie-the-Pooh Spinning Tops, Ribbit “Robot 2000” collectible tin robots, cribs sold by Bassettbaby, Curious George plush dolls and certain children's sunglasses.
eBay takes recalled items very seriously, and we work closely with the Consumer Product Safety Commission on these issues. We encourage buyers and sellers to visit http://www.cpsc.gov (See the Recent Recalls section) for more details about the products and model numbers included in this recall. You may also wish to visit our Recalled Items policy at http://pages.ebay.com/help/policies/recalled.html
For Sellers: Please check your product model numbers and refrain from listing any items that are part of this recall. Any currently listed items that are included in the recall should be ended.
For Buyers: If you believe an item you are interested in bidding on or purchasing may be part of this recall, we encourage you to use the Ask Seller a Question feature to verify the model number.
As a service to our Community, eBay announces some product recalls, like this one, when we believe the marketplace will be impacted. To stay informed about all CPSC recalls, please bookmark http://www.cpsc.gov and visit regularly.

***A Message from Philipp Justus: FREE GALLERY for Core Listings Through December 12th, Plus Store Inventory Expansion*** |
 |
 |
 |
November 05, 2007 | 05:00PM PST/PT

| Philipp Justus |
Hello Sellers,
As you know, our "at least 33% off" insertion fees promotion ends today, and we hope you've enjoyed the savings. I'm pleased to let you know there is more good news in store that should help keep your holiday selling season jolly.
FREE Gallery for core listings
Starting tomorrow through December 12th, all your auction-style and fixed price listings will automatically get Gallery for FREE! That's right - you list with an image, and we'll do the rest!
We all know that a picture is worth a thousand words. Now you can show off your item right from the search results page - without spending a penny out of your own pocket. Check out all the details of the promo here.
Store Inventory Expansion - More Store Inventory listings, plus Gallery image exposure
Our Store sellers who use the Store Inventory listing format option will be pleased to know that - through mid-December - we are increasing the number of Store Inventory listings that display in the Store Inventory Expansion area in core search results. Now, when a buyer's keyword search returns fewer than 30 auction-style or fixed price listings, we will display up to 50 Store Inventory items (an increase from our current max of 30 listings.)
What's more - if those Store Inventory listings have Gallery images, we'll display those in the Store Inventory expansion area, too. (Store Inventory Gallery remains 1 cent and is not included as part of the Gallery promotion for auction-style and fixed price listings.)
Here's to a great holiday selling (and buying) season!
Sincerely,
Philipp Justus

***A Message from Gary Briggs: Marketing Update*** |
 |
 |
 |
November 02, 2007 | 03:37PM PST/PT

| Gary Briggs |
Hi everyone...If you've been to the eBay home page today, you've probably
noticed we've done some "redecorating" to spruce up our front door for the holiday shopping season ahead. We've decked the
halls, plus a whole lot more - all to help ensure we're driving buyers to Shop Victoriously on eBay this holiday season.
An update on the Shop Victoriously campaign
Speaking of Shop Victoriously, our advertising campaign is well under way,
with TV advertising that is scheduled to reach 86% of viewers an average of 12 times each in November and December. As you
might expect, these marketing initiatives will take on a holiday twist over the next few weeks. You’ll also see us "turning
up the dial" on both our television ads and online ads, all in an effort to make sure buyers know eBay is the place to shop
for the holidays.
We'll debut a new TV ad in mid-November, so keep an eye out for it when you're watching your favorite popular television
shows such as Survivor: China, Sunday Night Football, and CSI. (Hint about the new TV commercial:
you'll be "hooked"!) Across the web, we'll be running internet marketing campaigns on such sites as Google, Yahoo!,
AOL, MSN, and more.
We've also integrated into popular social networking sites, like MySpace, Facebook and YouTube. The response to these ads so
far has been terrific! For example, a video clip of Andy Richter and Paul F.Tompkins as "The Winnervators" was featured on
the YouTube home page for a full day, and has been viewed over 500,000 times. It was ranked #14 overall, and #1 among comedy
clips for the day it ran on the home page.
Holiday catalogs...8 million of them!
We're also reaching our buyers in their homes by sending catalogs focused on the excitement of shopping on eBay during the
holidays. We'll be featuring unique gift ideas for friends and family…and even yourself! With over 8 million total
catalogs being mailed in November and December, we're anticipating lots of shoppers bidding, buying and, of course,
winning on eBay.
eBay Gift Cards have arrived
I mentioned eBay Gift Cards last time, but they are hitting the shelves now, and we're all pretty excited. As announced by Jen Wehrmaker, eBay Gift Cards will be featured by major retailers
around the country. You can purchase Gift Cards at a number of locations nationwide just in time for the holidays.
(Remember, they fit in a stocking, and they're MUCH better than a fruitcake!)
Get 10% Off Holiday Purchases with the eBay MasterCard
Before I sign off, I want to share one more way we're helping buyers get a rockin’ deal on eBay this holiday season.
From November 15th through December 15th this year, eBay shoppers can get 10% off their eBay purchases, up to $25 back, when they use
their eBay MasterCard. The credit will appear automatically on your
statement, so it couldn't be easier.
Don't have an eBay MasterCard already? Now is a great time to get one.
And don't worry - your new card is automatically linked to your PayPal account so you can shop right away.
That's it for now - here’s to the start of a wonderful holiday season!
Sincerely,
Gary Briggs
Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer

We would like to invite you to attend the following workshops next week:
Market Research and Product Sourcing
This workshop will be held on Monday, November 5th from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Pacific time.
Please join Jen Cano, from HammerTap, a Certified Solution Provider, as she talks about selling trend signals. Have you ever missed the signs that a product is getting stale on the market and ended up with
surplus inventory that’s hard to move? Those days are gone. Come discover simple ways to tell whether its time to just change your selling strategy, or time to phase your product out.
Selling with Best Offer (and its latest enhancement - Auto Accept)
This workshop will be held on Tuesday, November 6th from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Pacific time.
Best Offer is the eBay selling format that allows sellers to accept offers from buyers or negotiate a price, all online via eBay. The benefits of this feature include a higher probability of selling your items, added visibility
in search and browse and also the ability to determine the right market value for an item using the fixed price format. Join this workshop to learn how to sell with Best Offer and its latest enhancement - Auto Accept.
With the holiday season around the corner, Best Offer provides your buyers with all the conveniences of a fixed price format and the thrill of auctions! And did we mention that this is a free feature?
10 Steps to Organizing Your Business Records Now!
This workshop will be held on Wednesday, November 7th from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. Pacific time.
How would you like to be stress free during the upcoming Holidays and still be ready for the tax man! Please join Phyllis Wischer, Lead Business Coach from Certified Provider KeepMore.net, as she outlines a process
for you to follow to get your business records ready in preparation for your 2007 tax return. And hopefully, get them ready before the holidays so that you can spend more time generating income from your eBay sales
during the holidays. Whether you have put off getting your 2007 information organized and ready for the tax man; or, if you want a process to follow to be sure you have thought of everything, this workshop is just for
you!
Build Amazing Listing Titles with Top-Dollar Keywords!
This workshop will be held on Thursday, November 8th from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Pacific time.
Join the research team from Terapeak for an interactive discussion on how market research can help you build your auction titles and improve your chance of top-dollar sales!Using the tools available on Terapeak,
we’ll look at some examples of how to evaluate your existing listing titles and create new ones based on market research. Certain keywords are searched more and fetch more bids than other keywords, and assessing
the success of words before using them in your listings is a great way to build up your sales.
Tis The Season For Cause Marketing
This workshop will be held on Friday, November 9th from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Pacific time.
The holidays are just around the corner, and shoppers’ minds are on filling those stockings and giving back. Join us for this exciting workshop and learn how listing items with eBay Giving Works this season can
help your business stand out from the crowd!
Workshops are hosted in discussion threads on the Workshops Board. To get to the Workshops Board:

***Updated: 1-Click Bidding to Launch Site-wide*** |
 |
 |
 |
November 02, 2007 | 11:55AM PST/PT

| Subha Shetty |
Hi everyone...I'm back with an update on the 1-click Bidding test we've been running for about the past two months.
With 1-click bidding, buyers can see regularly updated information about their status, the current high bid, and other key auction details easily. They can also re-bid with just a single click (learn more in my previous announcement below, and in my video on the Chatter Blog).
Based on our initial results, we're going to make 1-click bidding available site-wide on eBay.com in the next few days. You'll be able to use this feature when you have placed a bid on the item already, are signed in and the auction has 60 or fewer minutes to go. We've also made a change to the way you can enter your bid, based on your feedback, so that it does not interfere with the auto-refresh feature in the last few minutes.
Please send your comments and feedback about 1-click bidding to us at sneakpeek@ebay.com.
Sincerely,
Subha Shetty

Tests to Make Bidding Faster and More Fun*** |

Hi everyone...I'm back with an update on one of the bidding tests we’ve been running for about the past six weeks.
For a small percentage of buyers, we added a field next to the Place Bid button at the top of the item page that allowed them to type in and submit their bid directly - just as they can at the bottom of the page. Not only does this save buyers time by removing an extra click of the mouse, but we've seen that it's had a positive effect on bidding. As a result, we're going to introduce this change sitewide in the next few days.
Sincerely,
Subha Shetty

Tests to Make Bidding Faster and More Fun*** |

Hi everyone...This is Subha again with eBay's Buyer Experience team. Buyers, take note! We're planning a couple of changes to bidding that we think will make it even faster – and more fun – to win the item that you want.
About 2% of members, selected at random, will see one of the tests described below:
1-Click Bidding
Back in July, I described 1-Click Bidding on the Chatter Blog. During the last 15 minutes of an auction, you'll see a small window with some key information, such as time left in the auction, current high bid, and most importantly, your status. This information will update every 3 seconds during the last 2 minutes of the listing.
What's more - if you are already a bidder on the listing, you can place a new bid from this window with a single click! If you are involved in a competitive auction, you know that as the clock winds down every second counts. Now there are no extra steps, like review and confirm your bid, to slow you down.
New bidding box on item page
We're saving you one more click – this time on the item page. Instead of having you click the Place Bid button to get into the bidding process, we're including a new field at the top of the page where you can type your bid amount directly and submit (just like you can currently do at the bottom of the page).
These tests are expected to last about a month. We'll keep you posted on our results, so stay tuned.
Sincerely,
Subha Shetty

***Consumer Product Safety Commission - Toys Recalled Week of Oct 15th*** |
 |
 |
 |
November 01, 2007 | 04:58PM PST/PT
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) recently issued a recall of certain children's items due to a lead exposure risk. The products include certain Ribbit board games, Elite Operations toys, Halloween "Ugly Teeth" party favors, "Galaxy Warriors" toy figures and gift sets with a pearl-like pink bead attachment on the outside packaging.
eBay takes recalled items very seriously, and we work closely with the Consumer Product Safety Commission on these issues.
