***Revise Your Item – Add Pictures to Active Listings Even After A Bid***

December 16, 2005 | 10:33AM PST/PT

Sellers can now use the Revise Your Item process to add eBay-hosted pictures to their listings, even after a bid has been placed for that item or if fewer than 12 hours remain in the listing, similar to how you can add extra description. In addition, if you didn’t list your item with any pictures originally, you can also select any listing upgrades (such as Supersize) that you want to include.

Please note that as before, any pictures already included when a bid is placed or when fewer than 12 hours remain in the listing cannot be edited or removed. You will also be unable to add pictures if both a bid has been placed and fewer than 12 hours remain in the listing. For more information about revisions for active listings, please go to the Revising Your Listing Help page.

***Coming Soon: Support for Digitally Delivered Goods***

December 14, 2005 | 05:28PM PST/PT

Mara Holian

Mara Holian
Hi, I’m Mara Holian with eBay’s Product Marketing team. As more buyers and sellers have become interested in digitally delivered goods (such as songs, eBooks, etc.), we’ve recognized that we need to improve the way these items are bought and sold on eBay. In the next few days we’re going to make a few changes to our site to better accommodate these types of items.

If you aren’t familiar with the term, a digital item is a product sold in the form of a computer file that a buyer can access online or have delivered electronically via email. For example, the product could be an MP3 file of an original song that you wrote and recorded, or an original fitness video that you made. It’s important to note that these are both examples of items you created yourself. Strict copyright laws prohibit selling digital items for content that you didn’t create yourself or for which you are not a copyright owner. You can learn more about what is and is not allowed by reading our Frequently Asked Questions.

Here are the highlights of the site changes we’re making to support digital items:

  • “List as a Digital Item” option in the Sell Your Item form – Selecting this option when you start listing lets us know you’re selling a digital item, so you won’t have to fill out sections that don’t apply (such as “Shipping”). You’ll also see a “Digital Item Delivery” field in SYI, where you can provide delivery information to your buyers (such as how to access the file once they’ve completed their purchase).

  • Search filter for digital items in certain categories – Buyers in categories that are more likely to feature digital items (such as Movies and Books) will be able to filter their results to see just the digital items that meet their search criteria.

  • Digital Information Box on the item page – On listings for digital items, a new information area will help buyers identify digital items, confirm the file type and learn about any system requirements they will need.

For tips on buying or selling digital items, please visit our Digital Delivered Goods information page and our Frequently Asked Questions. We’ll also be holding a workshop on January 9th, where you can learn more about buying and selling digital items, as well as about the copyright laws that govern them. Stay tuned for more details about the workshop in the coming weeks.

Sincerely,

Mara Holian
eBay Product Marketing

The thread will be open for posting in the morning and the game will continue throughout the day as different staff arrive to ask their questions!

***Updated: Contact eBay Member Email Changes***

December 12, 2005 | 10:05AM PST/PT

As you know, an important part of staying safe on eBay is knowing who your trading partners are. We think this is also true when you are choosing whether to respond to emails sent to you through Contact eBay Member.

In early October we started including publicly-available information about the sender, such as their Feedback score and date of registration, on Contact eBay Member emails. This information appears near the top of the email, and is designed to help you decide whether or not to reply.

In the next week, we’re going to expand this to include additional transaction history information between you and the sender. For example, you will see messages such as “I am bidding on 3 of their items”, and/or “We have traded 10 items” when these situations apply.

As always, if you are concerned about the contents of a Contact eBay Member email, or if the email contains an offer to buy or sell outside of eBay, do not reply to the sender.

***More Feedback Changes Live to Site***

December 08, 2005 | 03:11PM PST/PT

Senior Marketplace Policy Manger Brian Burke
Brian Burke

Hi... I'm Brian Burke, Senior Marketplace Policy Manager for Feedback.

Last month we launched a change to the feedback system that requires members who have 10 or less feedback to complete a brief tutorial before leaving their first neutral or negative feedback (read the announcement). At that time, I also announced that this month we will begin removing feedback ratings left by buyers who don't respond to the Unpaid Item claim process on eBay. This change is now live.

Beginning today, we will automatically remove feedback ratings left by buyers who do not respond to the Unpaid Item process on eBay. This means the rating (whether positive, neutral or negative) will no longer affect the recipient's feedback score, although the feedback comment itself will remain. An administrative note from eBay will be added to the comment, indicating that the feedback rating was removed because the member did not participate in the Unpaid Item process on eBay. This is a global change and will affect all eBay sites.

The new policy only applies to unpaid item claims filed on or after Monday, December 5th (except for those that were filed on or after December 5th and were closed before the change was fully implemented on December 8th). Eligibility is based on the Unpaid Item filing date, not when the feedback was left.

This change, as well as the other recent enhancements we've made, ensures that the feedback system continues to be a credible measure of trust. To comment on any of the recent changes, please visit the Feedback discussion board and always remember to read the Announcement Board for any future changes we may make to the feedback system.

Sincerely,
Brian Burke
Senior Manager, Marketplace Policy

Recent Feedback System Changes
This workshop will be held on Monday, December 5th, from 13:00 to 14:00 PT. We recently announced two changes to the feedback system. As of last month, we started requiring new members (those who have 10 or fewer feedback) to complete a tutorial before leaving neutral or negative feedback. The “Get It Fast” feature announced last week is now available. With Get It Fast, sellers can promote listings that buyers can get quickly, and buyers have an easy way to search for listings that offer an overnight shipping method and will be shipped within one business day after payment is received.

For more details about Get It Fast please see our original announcement directly below, and visit the Get It Fast information page and Frequently Asked Questions. We’ve also added an updated discussion thread on the Packaging & Shipping discussion board with more information, and invite you to leave your feedback.
