***Potential transaction delays due to Hurricane Sandy***

30 October, 2012 | 15:45

Due to Hurricane Sandy, communication, power and transportation lines may be disrupted across the mid-Atlantic and northeast regions of the United States.

Southern areas of Ontario, Quebec, and the Maritimes may also experience power outages, communication and transportation disruptions due to high wind gusts and heavy rain.

Sellers: We know you work hard to build your business and reputation on eBay. If you believe that your selling will be adversely affected—and you have an eBay Stores subscription—we strongly recommend that you put your Store in vacation mode to better control purchasing activity and to indicate to buyers that your operation has been temporarily affected by a natural disaster. We can do this for you at your request, as well.

If you are involved in an eBay transaction with a buyer or seller in of these regions, please note that their ability to communicate or complete your transaction may be delayed due to these severe conditions. We encourage you to be patient in this matter, both throughout the transaction and when providing feedback once your item arrives.

We will continue to monitor these conditions—especially in the mid-Atlantic and northeast regions—and will reach out as necessary to members who may become affected. Our thoughts are with you.

***How to list upcoming Nintendo and Apple products successfully to meet buyer demand***

29 October, 2012 | 11:31

The launch of the latest highly-anticipated Apple and Nintendo products is just around the corner! Follow these guidelines when listing Lightning adapters/cables (OEM & Non OEM), iPad Minis, and Wii U items to help buyer demand and deliver excellent customer service.

Listing the latest Nintendo and Apple products as pre-sales
Sellers in full compliance with eBay's Presale policy will be allowed to list the latest Nintendo and Apple products on eBay, 30 days prior to the launch date. Also:

  • Nintendo and Apple authorized resellers may list up to 25 items per week.
  • eBay Top Rated Sellers may list up to 4 items per week.
  • Sellers meeting our minimum performance standards may list 1 item per week.
  • Only sellers registered in Canada or the United States on eBay.ca, eBay Motors or eBay.com, will be able to participate in this event.

Listing the latest Nintendo and Apple products after the launch
Once the latest Nintendo and Apple products are made available to the public, most sellers will be allowed to list them with some limitations:

  • Nintendo and Apple authorized resellers may list an unlimited number of items per week.
  • eBay Top Rated Sellers may list up to 8 items per week.
  • Sellers meeting our minimum performance standards may list 4 items per week.
  • Sellers who’ve confirmed their personal information may list 1 item per week.
  • Only sellers registered in Canada or the United States on eBay.ca, eBay Motors or eBay.com will be able to participate in this event.

Sellers not meeting our minimum performance standards-or that haven’t confirmed their personal information-will not be allowed to list the latest Nintendo and Apple products during the pre-sale or post-launch sale period.

Nintendo and Apple related domain name and email address sales
Sellers offering Nintendo and Apple related domain names or email addresses for sale on eBay, both pre- and post-launch, will be allowed up to 4 listings-which must be in the Businesses & Websites for Sale category-per week.

Follow these best practices for selling the latest Nintendo and Apple and other products on eBay. Learn more about listing from your mobile device and optimizing photos for mobile buyers.

***Seller reminder: Fee for ending select Auction-style listings early in effect today, pictures now required in all listings***

04 October, 2012 | 15:15

Starting October 1, sellers will be charged a fee to end early any Auction-style listing that has received at least one bid, as announced earlier this year. The fee will equal the amount of the final value fee, had the listing ended naturally and sold for the highest bid received when the seller ended the listing. The fee will be waived the first time a seller ends a listing early each calendar year. Follow these listing best practices to provide your buyers with the best Auction-style experience possible, and to avoid incurring this fee.

Also, as announced in the 2012 Fall Seller Update, you can no longer list, relist, or revise listings via Blackthorne, TurboLister, or the Sell Your Item flow that don't include at least one picture. Be sure to review your listings and upload images as necessary, and remember - you now get 12 free photos per listing (excluding eBay Motors Vehicles listings). Be sure to load up as a way to increase your sales leading into the holiday season! Check out the eBay Photo Centre for tips on how to take great pictures.

Note: Starting the week of October 22, eBay will start auto-completing city and province information in your listings - based on the postal code in your listing. Be sure to review your listings and revise as required, as accurate item locations in your listings helps build buyer confidence!

***eBay Canada 2012 Entrepreneur of the Year Award Winners***

01 October, 2012 | 11:00

Recently, we announced the recipients of the 8th annual eBay Canada Entrepreneur of the Year Awards.

eBay Canada has crowned Jean-Francois Lapointe of Gatineau, Quebec (eBay ID: bdhbikestore) eBay Canada’s 2012 Entrepreneur of the Year.

After purchasing his father’s bicycle business in 2006, Jean-Francois Lapointe recognized the opportunity to sell online and offset slowdowns experienced during Quebec’s cold winter months. Jean-Francois started by specializing in bike suspensions, a very niche market in the cycling industry, and was so successful that he managed to pay his father back in less than four years. Today, BDH Bikes is a $6 million business, selling mid to high-end bicycle components to a growing community of bike enthusiasts around the world. Jean-Francois proudly states that he is now the largest online bike parts and accessories reseller in Canada, proving that it’s possible to take a local, seasonal business and turn it into a global, year-round enterprise.

Tina Kastana of Ste-Rose, Quebec takes home the inaugural crown for eBay’s Fashion-preneur.

With a personal interest in fashion and online retail, Tina (eBay ID: fashionalacarte_com) started on eBay by selling the clothes she purchased while employed as mystery shopper. Tina was so impressed by the response that she reinvested the money to buy more clothes, and Fashion A La Carte was born. Tina has set herself apart from thousands of eBay fashion sellers by catering to both high-end and vintage buyers, and offering buyer incentives like free shipping worldwide, and coupons to promote return business. In addition to 10 years of fashion retail experience, Tina attributes her success to always knowing the top trends and hottest designers, and delivering eBay shoppers a variety of stylish finds.

Bernd Eisele of Williams Lake, British Columbia receives the honour of being eBay’s first International-preneur.

Bernd (eBay ID: xenalook) turned to eBay full-time after his motor vehicle arbitrage business was impacted by the recent economic downturn. Looking to find a niche market, and one that did not compete solely on price-point, Bernd decided to revive his childhood hobby of building and flying model airplanes. Against the objections of friends and family around him, Bernd and his partner Xena sought out miniature gas model engines and soon collected enough inventory to build a store. Bernd receives an overwhelming response from buyers around the world, who share his passion for model airplanes. In fact, approximately 50 per cent of sales transactions take place beyond the borders of North America, in countries such as Australia, Pakistan, Indonesia and United Kingdom.

The annual eBay Canada Entrepreneur of the Year awards program recognizes Canadian entrepreneurs who are running successful online businesses and contributing to the overall growth of e-commerce in Canada. Along with bragging rights, winners of their year’s contest will be featured in communication to millions of Canadian eBay buyers and received a cash prize.

Congratulations to the 2012 Winners!

Will you be next year’s Entrepreneur of the Year?

Sincerely,
Megan Vickell
eBay Canada
