***Update: 100% New My eBay in the New Year***

21 November, 2008 | 11:54

Renee VonBergen
Hi everyone...This is Renée from the My eBay team. For the last few months, our Community has helped us test the new My eBay. Along the way, you’ve also had some good ideas -- in fact, much of what members have told us has inspired the many improvements we’ve made. There are too many to share here, so to learn more please read this discussion on eBay.com's My eBay forum.

With product changes and testing behind us, we’re ready to retire the old My eBay in January 2009. More than 90% of eBay members currently use the new My eBay already, but if you are one of the remaining 10% who have not made the switch, we encourage you to give it a try in the next several weeks: Just click the "try the beta" link in the upper right corner on the old My eBay pages.

I’ll update you one more time when we’re about retire the old version, but don’t wait until then to try the new experience – go try it now!

On behalf of the whole My eBay team, thanks again for your help and participation.

Sincerely,

Renée VonBergen

***A Message from Jeff King -- Update on Multiple Identical Listings ***

19 November, 2008 | 15:44

Jeff King
Hi.. This is Jeff King, Senior Director of Finding. Starting this week we will be showing all identical listings from the same seller for Fixed Price items in search. Since July 30, we had been showing just one listing to ensure that buyers see relevant items from a variety of trusted sellers.

Now that a track record of recent sales is a factor in the sort order for Fixed Price, most sellers are combining identical items into single, multi-quantity, 30-day listings. This has proven to be the right strategy for sellers and a great shopping experience for buyers. Please note that we are continuing to show a maximum of 10 listings per page -- whether Fixed Price or Auction-style -- from any one seller.

To get the best position for Fixed Price listings this holiday season, we encourage sellers to focus on the following:
  • Create effective, accurate listings with distinct and descriptive titles.
  • Use the long duration (30-day or Good ‘Til Cancelled) multi-quantity format whenever appropriate.
  • Offer free shipping.

Sincerely,

Jeff King
Senior Director, Finding

***Update on Canada Revenue Agency request for 2004-2005 PowerSeller Information***

13 November, 2008 | 09:00

Scott Shipman
As many of you know, in 2007, the Federal Court of Canada upheld the Canada Revenue Agency’s (CRA) request for certain customer information regarding Canadian PowerSellers during the years 2004 and 2005. In defense of our members’ privacy, we vigorously defended that ruling, and a series of appeals has been underway since then.

Unfortunately, on November 7, 2008, the Federal Court of Appeal ruled in favour of the CRA, and against eBay. Consequently, the court has ordered eBay to provide information on PowerSellers from 2004 and 2005.

We have sent an email to all members whose information must be released to the CRA. Please check your Messages folder in My eBay if you are unsure of whether you are affected by this ruling.

This is not the outcome that we wanted, and we strenuously object to being forced to release our members’ information. Protecting our users' privacy is of the utmost importance.

Please note that the CRA has indicated to us that they will seek court orders for PowerSeller information for subsequent years. Given their intentions, we would like to remind sellers once again that they are responsible for ensuring that they are in compliance with all laws and regulations relating to their activities online. A change in PowerSeller status at this time will not alter our information disclosure requirements.

The court rulings, additional information and the answers to some commonly-asked questions are posted at www.ebay.ca/powersellerinfo. If you have additional questions about this situation, you may email powersellerinfo@ebay.ca.

We appreciate that this matter is of great concern to our members and continue to work hard to protect your privacy.

Yours sincerely,

Scott Shipman
Senior Counsel
Global Privacy Practices
