***10 cent Listing Day - December 27, 2005***

26 December, 2005 | 20:01

eBay.ca is having a 10 cent Listing Day! It all starts Tuesday, December 27, 2005 at 00:00:01 EST (12:00 AM plus one second on December 27, 2005) and ends that same day Tuesday, December 27, 2005 23:59:59 EST (11:59 PM plus 59 seconds).

Insertion fees for Auction-Style and Fixed Price listings will be reduced to 10 cents. This change will be immediately reflected on the eBay.ca site. eBay.com and eBay Motors are having similar promotions this same day. Click here for details. Please keep in mind the US promotions are open to Canadians, but have different start and end times and different eligibility requirements. Listings created prior to the promotion and scheduled to start during the promotional period of December 27, 2005 will be eligible for the promotional fee.

Motors vehicles, Business and Industrial Capital Equipment, Store Inventory Format and Real Estate Ad Format listings will not be included in this promotion. Items listed before or after the promotional period and then later revised will not be eligible for the 10 cent insertion fee. The promotional rate will also not apply to listings created during the promotion on December 27, 2005, but scheduled to start after the promotion ends.

***Policy Announcement: Safe Payments Policy***

21 December, 2005 | 09:51

Rob Chesnut
Rob Chesnut

Hi, this is Rob Chesnut, head of eBay's global Trust & Safety organization. Completing a transaction with a safe, convenient payment method is an important part of trading on eBay. Buyers have a wide variety of choices about how to pay eBay sellers, and while most of the payment methods offered by eBay sellers offer a high degree of safety and convenience, a few simply are not appropriate for the eBay marketplace.

Based on safety concerns and input from the Community, we feel it's time to establish a Safe Payments Policy that clarifies eBay's position on payment methods. This policy will be enforced beginning January 15, 2006 and will not affect any commonly used payment method on eBay today.

Sincerely,

Rob Chesnut
Senior Vice President, Trust & Safety

***1 cent Fixed Price listings for Toronto-area sellers who offer Local Pickup - December 19, 2005***

18 December, 2005 | 14:00

eBay is having a 1 cent Listing Day for Toronto-area residents who offer local pickup in their Fixed Price listings. This promotion is a one-day test for the Local Pickup feature and, for now, will take place only in Toronto. If we see positive results, we will consider extending the promotion to other areas across Canada in the future.

It all starts Monday, December 19, 2005 at 00:00:01 EST (12:00 AM plus one second on December 12, 2005) and ends that same day Monday, December 19, 2005 23:59:59 EST (11:59 PM plus 59 seconds).

Here's how to take part in the promotion if you're a Toronto-area seller...

1) List your item in Fixed Price format on December 19, 2005 on eBay.ca, eBay.com or eBay Motors
2) You must specify "Will not ship - local pickup only" in the Sell Your Item form or you will not be eligible for the promotion.
3) Enter the promo code TOPU in your item title.

Insertion fees for these listings will be reduced to 1 cent after credit for Toronto-area users. Eligible listings created prior to the promotion and scheduled to start during the promotional period of December 19, 2005 will qualify for the promotional fee. Please note the discounted fees will not be immediately reflected on the site. You will see a credit to your seller's account by January 31, 2006.

Items re-listed on December 19 that match the above eligibility will qualify for the promotion. Canadian residents who registered on other eBay sites will still be eligible, provided your registered address is Canadian.

The promotion will exclude Auction-Format and Auction-Format with Buy It Now upgrade listings, Motors vehicles, Business and Industrial Capital Equipment, Store Inventory Format and Real Estate Ad Format listings. The promotion will also exclude users who do not specify "Will not ship - local pickup only" in the Sell Your Item form and users who are not located in the Toronto-area. If you're unsure whether you live in the designated Toronto-area or not, click here.

The promotional rate does not apply to listings created before the promotional period and then revised during the promotional period. The promotional rate also does not apply to listings created during the promotion December 19, 2005, but scheduled to start after the promotion ends.

***Coming Soon: Pre-filled Information and Automatic Title Formatting for Passenger Vehicles and Motorcycles on eBay.ca***

16 December, 2005 | 09:00

In the coming weeks, we’ll be introducing a new, easier selling flow for Passenger Vehicles listings on eBay.ca.

Sellers listing recent (1992 or newer) model vehicles will be able to input their Vehicle Identification number (VIN) in the Sell Your Item flow. The listing will then be pre-populated with detailed vehicle information, reducing the time required to complete the listing.

This same approach has been in place for some time on the US eBay Motors site, and will be familiar to Canadian sellers who have listed on that platform in the past.

As part of this change, we will also be implementing automatic item title formatting for eBay.ca passenger vehicle and motorcycle listings. This is the same approach used on the US Motors site, and combines the user-entered title information with system generated vehicle information (such as make, model and model year). This feature makes it easier for buyers to locate Canadian passenger vehicles and motorcycles both on eBay.ca and on the US Motors site.

In order to accommodate this automatic item title formatting, the subtitle featured option will no longer be available for passenger vehicles and motorcycles on eBay.ca.

For sellers using the “relist” feature for existing passenger vehicles or motorcycles listings that were created prior to the introduction of this feature, note that the subtitle will be automatically removed at the time of relist, and the applicable subtitle feature fee will not be applied.

Pre-filled item information and automatic title formatting have been well-received features on the US Motors site, and we hope they’ll be equally well-received for our motors sellers on eBay.ca.

***More Feedback Changes Live to Site***

09 December, 2005 | 21:11

Senior Marketplace Policy Manger Brian Burke
Brian Burke

Hi... I'm Brian Burke, Senior Marketplace Policy Manager for Feedback.

Last month, we launched a change to the feedback system that requires members who have 10 or less feedback to complete a brief tutorial before leaving their first neutral or negative feedback. This month, we will begin removing feedback ratings left by buyers who don't respond to the Unpaid Item claim process on eBay.

Starting on December 8th, we will automatically remove feedback ratings left by buyers who do not respond to the Unpaid Item process on eBay. This means the rating (whether positive, neutral or negative) will no longer affect the recipient's feedback score, although the feedback comment itself will remain. An administrative note from eBay will be added to the comment, indicating that the feedback rating was removed because the member did not participate in the Unpaid Item process on eBay. This is a global change and will affect all eBay sites.

The new policy only applies to unpaid item claims filed on or after Monday, December 5th (except for those that were filed on or after December 5th and were closed before the change was fully implemented on December 8th). Eligibility is based on the Unpaid Item filing date, not when the feedback was left.

This change, as well as the other recent enhancements we've made, ensures that the feedback system continues to be a credible measure of trust. Please check this Announcement Board for any future changes we may make to the feedback system.

Sincerely,
Brian Burke
Senior Manager, Marketplace Policy
