***Update on launch of new search system***

28 August 2008 | 03:17PM EST

eBay's new search system (announced earlier this month) due to launch this week will be delayed until later this year. Like with all major system overhauls we are experiencing some minor transition technicalities, which we'd like to iron out in order to provide you with the best possible search experience.

In the mean time we encourage you to use playground and get a feel for the new and improved functionality. You can use it for searching and buying just like you're doing already.

Don't forget to send your any feedback, ideas, suggestion or thoughts to aucategory@ebay.com.

Watch this space for more on the launch date

Regards,
The eBay team

***New search coming soon***

18 August 2008 | 03:49PM EST

We are pleased to announce the launch of our new search system, live on eBay.com.au on the week of 26 August. Check it out.

The new search will find items with more relevancy providing you with better matching results for your search terms. You’ll no longer need to use long and complicated search terms to find what you’re looking for. Plus, new filters (on the left hand side of the search results page) will make it easier to find the things you want by narrowing or expanding your search.

Sellers will not have to do anything differently but we encourage you to check out the new menu and work out how you can optimise your listings. (Take special note of the 'Choose more' function available in each of the product classifications.)

If you have any questions read our FAQs.

Regards,
The eBay team

***Category structure changes - August***

13 August 2008 | 11:02AM EST

A number of changes to the Category Structure on eBay.com.au will be introduced this month.

These changes are being made in an effort to simplify the finding experience for buyers, and help make listing easier and faster for sellers.

Changes will be made in the following categories:

  • Antiques
  • Art
  • Business, Industrial
  • Cameras
  • Cars, Bikes, Boats
  • Collectables
  • Computers
  • Crafts
  • Dolls, Bears
  • Electronics
  • Fashion
  • Home
  • Jewellery
  • Movies
  • Music
  • Phones
  • Sport
  • Tickets, Travel
  • Toys, Hobbies
  • Video Games
View the complete list of changes for each category.

How will these changes impact sellers?

Recurring listings
Any seller who automatically relists items in any of the above categories using a third party or eBay tool (such as Turbo Lister or Selling Manager Pro) will need to make a bulk edit of listings to ensure all items are listed within the correct category number.

New listings in these categories
For Turbo Lister and third party listing tools you will need to download updates to ensure the category structure reflects this change.

Important note for all sellers
Please be aware that certain brand name categories will be created within the Jewellery category. Items of these brands will be required to be listed in their respective categories while items compatible with, related or unrelated to the brand name are required to be listed in a different category.

Ensure you use Item Specifics and include appropriate keywords in your titles to help facilitate the relevancy of searches for buyers. Any existing listing will automatically be migrated to the new category structure. Item Specifics will remain a part of the listing process.

The eBay team

***What’s your biggest eBay catch?***

12 August 2008 | 03:20PM EST

We love hearing all your stories about the bargains you’ve managed to find on eBay.com.au.

In fact we love it so much we decided to create the Bargain Gallery so you can share you best bargain with everyone and maybe even win a Nintendo Wii Sport.

Taking part is simple!

Go to the Bargain Gallery, create a profile, upload a picture of you and your biggest eBay catch, and then tell us in 50 words or less about your catch and why it’s such a bargain. There’ll be two winners every week until 3 October and remember, it doesn’t have to be the biggest item, just the best bargain you’ve found on eBay.com.au.

Naturally, terms and conditions do apply.

Happy uploading!
