***Excitement is coming....*** |
 |
 |
 |
22 June 2007 | 06:43PM EST

We hope you’ve seen the fancy new video banners on ebay.com.au - ‘excitement is coming’.
So what do you get if you combine an army of extras; a great big snow-covered mountain; a film crew and a shopping trolley? You’re a pretty clever bunch, so we know you’ve guessed that an eBay TV commercial is on its way.
And that’s really exciting!
We’d like to share with you some information about the biggest and most exciting advertising campaign eBay has ever undertaken in Australia.
Many of you said you’d like to see eBay invest more in advertising, particularly in traditional or mainstream media. You cried out for a TV commercial, a way to reach out to millions of people and share with them the excitement of the eBay experience. You’re one of over 5 million Aussie eBay members who know that spine-tingling feeling as an item you’re bidding on or selling reaches its final seconds of auction – that rush, that thrill, that exhilaration!
Well eBay has heard you and as a company, we’ve taken action and dedicated a lot of time, effort and hard work into creating advertisements that really showcase the excitement and the fun of shopping on eBay.
You can be among the first to view eBay’s TV commercial this Sunday night when it airs for the very first time. You’ll be able to catch it during the following programs:
| Where Are They Now? | (Sydney & Brisbane – Channel 7) |
| 20 to 1 | (Sydney & Brisbane – Channel 9) |
| Ugly Betty | (Sydney & Brisbane – Channel 7) |
| Big Brother Live Eviction | (Melbourne – Channel 10) |
| 60 Minutes | (Sydney – Channel 9) |
| CSI | (Sydney & Brisbane – Channel 9) |
| Grey’s Anatomy | (Melbourne – Channel 7) |
| Sunrise | (Sydney, Brisbane & Melbourne – Channel 7) – just in case you don’t catch it on Sunday. |
If you live outside these areas, you can still catch the ad on various pay TV channels.
As well as television, you’ll see eBay ads in weekly magazines like Who! and New Idea, on billboards as you drive down the street and be surprised by some unique and fun animations across the internet. You can also take a sneak peek at some of the ‘behind the scenes’ action – check out this clip on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xuOysOqbY8Q.
Look out for the next edition of the Candy Jar email newsletter inviting you to put on your dancing shoes and join our eBay virtual conga line stretching across the shores of the internet.
Share the excitement – visit the eBay discussion boards where you’ll find a dedicated thread Excitement is coming and keep an eye out for fun updates on the eBay excitement page.
1,2,3,4….get excited!

***Changes to eBay Australia’s CDs category*** |
 |
 |
 |
20 June 2007 | 11:10AM EST

In order to simplify the finding experience for buyers, and help make listing easier and faster for sellers, eBay Australia is consolidating the CDs category, in mid July.
What are the changes?
From mid July, regardless of what subcategory your CD belongs to, all CDs listed on eBay.com.au will be classified under the following category:
Music > CDs with the category number 307.
How will this impact sellers?
Recurring listings
Any seller who automatically relists CDs using a third party or eBay tool (such as Turbo Lister or Selling Manager Pro) will need to make a bulk edit of CD listings in mid July to ensure all CDs are listed within the one category number – 307.
New CD listings from mid July
The Sell Your Item form will give you one category option only for classifying your CDs; category number 307. For Turbo Lister and third party listing tools you will need to download updates after mid July to ensure the category structure reflects this change.
Important note for all sellers
Ensure you use Item Specifics and include appropriate keywords in your titles to help facilitate the relevancy of searches for buyers. Any existing listing will automatically be migrated to the new category number – 307. Item Specifics will remain a part of the listing process.
How will this impact buyers?
Buyers will be presented with one simple option to help narrow their search: the CDs product finder. This decreases duplication of search options and makes it easier for buyers to search using other item details such as CD type, genre, condition etc.
Why are these changes being made?
These changes will assist buyers and sellers by simplifying the processes to list and buy a CD. Additionally, for those wishing to purchase and/or sell internationally, the new Australian CDs category is linked to every CD listed on the US site and is linked to the ‘Other CDs’ category on the UK site. This increases the relevance of product searches internationally.

The eBay Team

PayPal Buyer Protection – now up to $3,000
To continue to provide members with an even more secure and safe trading place, eBay is pleased to announce several significant improvements to buyer protection on ebay.com.au.
Buyer protection is important because of the confidence it builds among buyers when transacting on eBay.
When buyers decide to place a bid or buy an item, knowing that there is protection gives them the peace of mind they need to choose their items on eBay, especially when buying more expensive items.
What are the improvements to buyer protection?
The improvements to the PayPal Buyer Protection program mean a wider range of items will be covered than ever before. From Thursday 7 June 2007 coverage will be increased for newly listed items paid for with PayPal on ebay.com.au.
From this date, when sellers offer PayPal as a payment method for eligible items, these items will be covered for at least $400 with no processing fee, where the items are paid for with PayPal.
In addition, the new PayPal Buyer Protection will cover certain items for up to $3,000 – that’s double the previous maximum cover!
IMPORTANT: Given these considerable improvements to the PayPal Buyer Protection program, the eBay Standard Purchase Protection Program on ebay.com.au will be discontinued from Thursday 7 June 2007. Items listed from Thursday 7 June 2007 will no longer be eligible for buyer protection unless paid for with PayPal.
For items listed before Thursday 7 June 2007, you will need to complete checkout before Saturday 16 June 2007 to be eligible for the eBay Standard Purchase Protection before it is discontinued. |
eBay Standard Purchase Protection was established before eBay acquired PayPal and covered most eBay transactions. In the early days it served an important function. However, as PayPal is now the most popular payment method for eBay buyers*, and is one of the most secure online payment methods, eBay believes the PayPal Buyer Protection program offers better protection for buyers.
What should I look for?
To see if an item is eligible for PayPal Buyer Protection look for the PayPal icon in the 'Buy safely' section of the item description page and then check the eligibility requirements in the PayPal Buyer Protection policy.

Want to know more?
Learn all about the new PayPal Buyer Protection.
For details on what items are covered by PayPal Buyer Protection refer to the PayPal Acceptable Use Policy.
eBay and PayPal staff will also be online in an upcoming workshop answering questions about the new and improved PayPal Buyer Protection program this May. Keep your eye on the announcement board for details of this workshop.
