***Significant changes to eBay Australia's category structure*** |
 |
 |
 |
29 May 2007 | 11:51AM EST

Hi everyone,
eBay Australia is making changes to the finding experience.
Finding helps buyers locate the product they want – if they can’t find it, they can’t buy it!
What's changing?
eBay Australia’s category structure will be undergoing significant change in July, August and September. It is moving toward a new platform which will deliver more relevant results for buyers. This platform relies on more than just category structure to help locate items and includes keywords, colour, brand, product type, as well as price, condition etc.
Why is it changing?
eBay Australia's category structure will evolve to become a list of product types rather than a hybrid system that inconsistently includes aspects such as brand, colour etc. This will help facilitate the 75% of buyers who search for their items.
The goal is to allow sellers to classify items broadly, without being forced into a rigid category structure.
This is being done with two key principles in mind:
Simplify category choice for buyers and sellers alike.
Create a consistent language, grammar and classification style.
A new, broader category structure will no longer support product aspects
such as colour and brand so you should continue to list these aspects in
your item title and within item specifics. Another aim is to reduce the
duplication of categories so it's more obvious where to list
and buy the item you’re looking for.
Do you need to do anything?
Another announcement will be made to let you know in advance of any
changes being made so there is as little disruption to you as possible.
If you sell on eBay, you will eventually be asked to adjust any recurring
listings to reflect the new category numbers. Turbo Lister settings will
also require updating.
If you would like to make a suggestion about category structure or
classification, please email the Finding Team aucategory@ebay.com
Such a significant improvement will help create a
more efficient finding experience on eBay.
Regards,
The eBay Team

****** Coming Soon: Bid Assistant – your new best friend ******* |
 |
 |
 |
24 May 2007 | 09:43AM EST

Is managing your auctions becoming a tricky juggling act?
Let Bid Assistant do all the work for you. Bid Assistant is a tool that makes managing and bidding on your watched items a piece of cake.
How does it work?
Let's say you want a new ipod nano, and you have five listings for this product in your Watch List. With Bid Assistant, you can group them together and enter the maximum amount you want to pay for each listing.
Once set up, Bid Assistant will place your maximum bid on the item that's ending soonest. While the listing is active, our bidding system will automatically update your bid amount up to your maximum amount.
This amount could be the same for each listing or you could specify different amounts for each item within the group.
If you win, you get to celebrate your victory! And the rest of your listings will not be bid on by Bid Assistant. If you miss out, Bid Assistant will automatically bid on the next auction in your group, until you win one of the listings or all of your chosen listings end.
Who can use Bid Assistant?
You must have a feedback score of 5 or more to use Bid Assistant.
Look out for Bid Assistant, due to launch on eBay.com.au next week.
Regards,
The eBay Team

****** Coming soon: Enhancements to eBay's header ****** |
 |
 |
 |
18 May 2007 | 05:02PM EST

We felt that it was time for a fresh new look on eBay. We also wanted a more convenient way to navigate to all areas of the site. And so a brand new eBay header was born. (Known to some as the bar at the top of the page.)
Here are the key changes that will be introduced in the next few days:
- Quick access to eBay categories & specialty sites - A new eBay Categories link will be included in the header. When you hover over it with your mouse, a full list of eBay categories will be displayed, letting you quickly go to the one that interests you. In addition, we're adding a convenient link to eBay Motors.
- Bigger search box front & centre - One thing we've heard consistently through our research is that members want a bigger, more obvious search box. This enlarged search box will be available, directly beneath the eBay logo.
- Quick links - The standard Buy, Sell, My eBay, Community, and Help links will be moved to the upper right-hand corner. When you hover over these links a short list of related links will be displayed.
We hope you like what you see and find the tools useful and easy to navigate.
Regards,
The eBay Team

***Updated: Feedback System *** |
 |
 |
 |
07 May 2007 | 01:54PM EST

We wanted to let you know about an update to the new Feedback system, which we introduced in March on eBay.com.au.
We have changed the way Detailed Seller Ratings are displayed. Detailed Seller Ratings are the anonymous star ratings that buyers leave for sellers. The system displayed the Detailed Seller Ratings to the nearest ½ star. Late last week, the system was updated to display Detailed Seller Ratings to the nearest 1/10 (one-tenth) star. We believe this update provides members with more specific information.
The results we’ve seen so far indicate that there is a good take up of the new Feedback features, and no negative impact on bidding and listing. While some members were initially concerned about the changes, we’ve received an increasing number of positive comments, from both buyers and sellers.
We appreciate the input and support we’ve received from our members. These changes help ensure that eBay’s Feedback system continues to be a credible measure of trust in the eBay marketplace.
Regards,
The eBay Team

***Original:
Feedback 2.0*** |
 |
 |
 |
 |
 |
 05 March 2007 | 06:05PM EST

Beginning Tuesday 6th March, buyers in Australia, Belgium, France, India, Ireland, Italy, Poland and the United Kingdom will be able to rate sellers on the four Detailed Seller Ratings we announced in February (see original announcement).
You will notice three significant changes:
- Buyers can now rate sellers on Item description, Communication, Delivery time and Postage & packing charges after first leaving an overall positive, neutral or negative Feedback. Buyers can rate sellers on a 1 to 5 scale, with 1 being the lowest and 5 the highest. The average of all ratings is displayed on the Feedback Profile page.
- The Feedback Profile page has changed and now includes a summary of the Detailed Seller Ratings.
- The item title and item price for each Feedback will be visible on the Feedback Profile page below the Feedback comment for 90 days after the comment was left.
This additional information will enable buyers to make more informed decisions before purchasing; and rewards sellers by recognising what they do to ensure customer satisfaction.
These changes ensure that the Feedback system continues to be a credible measure of trust in the growing community marketplace.
For further information please read the Overview of Detailed Seller Ratings and frequently asked questions.
Sincerely,
The eBay Team
