***Coming soon: Services category on eBay ***

30 March 2007 | 04:54PM EST

Soon we will be launching an exciting new category on eBay.com.au called Services.

eBay Services will be an easier way for service providers to reach eBay’s five million members, and for buyers to find even more of what they’re looking for on eBay.

Why it’s good for buyers:

  • Widens the range of what you can access on eBay
  • Provides visibility of the transaction history of service providers
  • Consolidates existing service listings into one major category and associated sub-categories

Why it’s good for sellers:

  • Expands the range of what you can offer buyers – e.g. services related to the products you currently sell
  • Provides an outlet for service providers to develop a more prominent presence on eBay
  • Gives you the choice of how you list your service - i.e. Classified advertisement, Buy It Now, Auction

The Services category will launch around mid April. Introductory fees and included features for Services listings are as follows:

Format Insertion Fee (Flat Fee) Final Value Fee (Flat Fee) Duration (days) Included features
Auction or BIN $5 $5 3,5,7,10 Gallery, subtitle, listing designer
Classified Ad $19.99 No Final Value Fee for Classifieds 28 Gallery, subtitle, listing designer

Keep an eye out for great promotional offers throughout the coming months.

Regards,
The eBay Team

***Starting March 30 - Scheduled Maintenance Expanding to 4 Hours***

29 March 2007 | 01:51PM EST

Beginning March 30th, eBay is extending our maintenance period in order to make necessary adjustments to our platform. Our new maintenance period will be 4 hours (instead of 2 hours), and will start at 15:00 AEST and end at 19:00 AEST on Fridays.

We realise that scheduled maintenance periods can impact your ability to use the site, and it's our goal to minimise any disruption to your buying and selling activity. While you should generally see little disruption when using the site during our maintenance period, certain eBay features may be slow or unavailable during this time. We appreciate your patience.

The eBay Team

***Improvements to Postage Discount Options***

27 March 2007 | 01:59PM EST

We are excited to announce improvements to the existing combined postage discount options which can be set under Preferences in My eBay.

Sellers already have the ability to offer discounted postage rates when a buyer purchases multiple items. In the next week or so, you'll see the following improvements to this feature:

  • Extended merchandising: Buyers looking at your items will be encouraged to take advantage of your combined postage discounts by making multiple purchases from you. We're also making it easy for them to window shop during the buying process and view your items where your discounts apply.

  • Different discounts for different items: Sellers will have the flexibility to set different discount postage rules for different items. For example, you can set discount rules for your cricket ball sales that are different from your discount rules for your cricket bat sales. Since the postage costs can vary greatly from item to item, this gives sellers much more flexibility.

  • Promotional Postage/Shipping: In contrast to offering postage discounts per item, Promotional Shipping allows you to set a special postage rate on all of your sales that meet some criteria. For example, you could choose to offer "Free postage when you spend $25!" or "Buy 3 items and postage is only $5!" This is a great new marketing tool for sellers to consider as part of their strategy.

The eBay Team

***Daylight Saving Time Finishes ***

22 March 2007 | 11:27AM EST

On Sunday 25th March 2007 at 03:00:00 Australian Eastern Daylight Saving Time (AEDST) will officially end in NSW, Australian Capital Territory, Victoria, South Australia, Tasmania and Western Australia. At this time the clocks will be put back by one hour and time will subsequently become Australian Eastern Standard Time (AEST) and for Western Australia, Western Standard Time.

Queensland and Northern Territory do not observe daylight saving and remain on Eastern and Central Time respectively.

This will impact buyers and sellers using eBay.com.au in the following way:

Sellers, your listings will appear to end one hour early however they will run for the exact time period you choose. For example a three day listing will run for 72 hours (3 x 24 hours). Therefore, a three day listing that starts on Friday 23 March 2007 at 6am AEDST will end on Monday 26 March 2007 at 5am AEST. While this appears to be an hour short your listing will be live for the correct period of time.

Buyers, please note that both the item "end date" and the watching “time left” takes into account this change so this time change will not impact your bidding or watching activity.

The eBay Team

***Introducing My World and eBay Blogs***

20 March 2007 | 02:42PM EST

Now you can express who you are, reveal your personality and write about your interests in two new formats on eBay – My World and eBay Blogs

My World

My World allows you to show the rest of the eBay community who you are on eBay! My World replaces the old Member Profile page and is a great compliment to your About Me page. You can customise your My World page – change the look, layout and content – using the following features:

  • Feedback: this will always be prominently displayed on My World so you can quickly see the transaction history of each member.
  • Listings: display your current listings and customise how they appear on your page.
  • Photo or Icon: Show the world your face! Upload your own personal photo or choose from over 30 icons to represent you.
  • Bio: provide a description of yourself, your interests, your selling policies or anything else you want to include. You can also create search tags that make it easy for other members to find you.
  • Reviews & Guides: Reviews & Guides are a great way to share your opinions and demonstrate your expertise, as well as gain new readership (and potential buyers).
  • Blog: whether you blog for fun or for business, you can attract readers by including your latest eBay Blog posts on My World.
  • Store: if you have an eBay Store you'll get your own Store module with customisable promotion boxes.

eBay Blogs

A blog is your personal, online journal; and now you can create one on eBay, featuring your own writing and links to photos. Use your blog to talk about anything, from tips and tricks for other eBay members, a review of the last book you read or share your recent holiday snaps and stories.

If you’re a seller, keeping a blog is a great way to interact with potential buyers and to talk about your products. You can also personalise your blog appearance with a variety of templates, or use HTML and style sheets to create your very own look. Start your blog now!

For more information on these exciting new features visit the My World information page or the eBay Blogs information page.

***Improvements to eBay Classified Ads***

09 March 2007 | 05:09PM EST

As announced on 1 March 2007, technical difficulties arising from our improved Classified Ads roll out have now been mostly resolved.
Best Offer on Classified Ads for Cars, Bikes, Boats and Other Vehicle and Classified Ads in the Real Estate category are now available.

We are also excited to announce the following improvements to Classified Ads:

  • More information on the item page. While listing, sellers will be able to easily add their phone number and business hours which buyers will see near the top of the item page. Buyers will also see any payment method and postage options the seller has chosen (in those categories where these options are applicable).

  • Contact functionality in My eBay. Sellers using Classified Ads will be able to view potential buyers who have emailed them from a Lead Management page, accessible from the Items I'm Selling and Unsold sections of My eBay. Sellers can contact these potential buyers from this page as well.

  • The new Classified Ads tab at the top of the search results. Buyers will be able to sort search results by format. If there are Classified Ads in the search result, the tab will appear with an active hyperlink. If there are no Classified Ads in the search result, the tab will appear in grey without a hyperlink.
