***Now Available: Early Release of the new Turbo Lister***

31 March 2006 | 03:31PM EST

We know that thousands of eBay sellers use eBay Turbo Lister every day to bulk list items on eBay. It's an ideal listing tool for medium to high volume sellers that can save you time creating professional looking listings.

Over the past year we've been doing a lot of research into how we can improve Turbo Lister and make it even more effective. We're happy to announce that an early release of this new, improved Turbo Lister is now available. We'd like you to try it out and tell us what you think.

A few highlights of the new Turbo Lister include:

  • Easier listing process – Now you can create listings within a single page. You can also customise the options you want to see on the page, allowing you to look only at the fields that you use.
  • Enhanced editing capabilities – Now you can edit your items directly in the main inventory list. Change the prices, modify the title, and make other quick changes from the list view without having to open another window.
  • Faster performance – We've also made some technical changes to the new Turbo Lister to make it faster and more reliable. To try out the early release of the new Turbo Lister, simply download it from the Turbo Lister information page.
You'll find more useful information on the Turbo Lister information page, including the Frequently Asked Questions we've put together.

If you'd like to share your thoughts and comments about the new Turbo Lister, please email the Turbo Lister team at TL2betafeedbackUS@ebay.com.

***Updated: Daylight Saving Time Finishes***

31 March 2006 | 12:01PM EST

On Sunday 2 April 2006 at 03:00:00 Australian Eastern Daylight Saving Time (AEDST) will officially end in NSW, Australian Capital Territory, Victoria, South Australia and Tasmania. At this time the clocks will be put back by one hour and time will subsequently become Australian Eastern Standard Time (AEST).

Queensland, Northern Territory and Western Australia do not observe daylight saving and remain on Eastern, Central and Western Standard Time respectively.

Please note eBay.com.au has already reverted to AEST time as per last week's announcement (below), therefore there will be no site impact resulting from this change.

The eBay Team

***Original: UPDATE: Daylight Saving Time ending early for eBay.com.au***

24 March 2006 | 06:10PM EST

This year, daylight saving (AEDST) has been extended to Sunday 2 April. However, daylight saving time on eBay.com.au will revert to AEST on Sunday 26 March.

We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause to the Community.

eBay systems are automatically programmed to revert to AEST each year on the last weekend in March. After investigating an implementation of this extension of daylight saving to 2 April, it was determined that such a change could negatively impact site functions.

Therefore during the week 26 March - 1 April, the time displayed on view item pages will be AEST, hence one hour behind daylight saving time. For example, an item that shows an ending time of 8:00pm AEST, will actually end at 9:00pm AEDST.

What does this mean for buyers and sellers during this week?

  • Our recommendation to buyers is to check “Time Left” when planning to bid on an item - this will give you the clearest indication of when the item will end.
  • Our recommendation to sellers who schedule listings to end during the week 26 March - 1 April is to consider the above discrepancy between AEST and AEDST when determining listing times.
Sellers who list before 27 March
Listings will appear to end one hour early however they will run for the exact time period you choose. For example a three day listing will run for 72 hours. Therefore, a three day listing that starts on Friday 24 March at 6:00am AEDST will appear to end on Monday 27 March at 5:00am AEST according to the eBay.com.au clock. However, the listing still runs for 72 hours in total and the actual end time of the listing will be 27 March at 6:00am AEDST.

On Sunday 2 April at 03:00am this issue will be resolved.

Once again, we regret any inconvenience caused by this situation, and we appreciate your understanding.

Regards,
The eBay Team

***New Discussion Boards Added to Community Area***

31 March 2006 | 09:40AM EST

As the Community continues to grow and diversify, we want to give you more ways to interact with other members who share your interests. Therefore we are pleased to announce the introduction of three new discussion boards to the eBay.com.au Community area.

Technical Issues - This board is for you to learn more about the hardware and software that is used on eBay from other members. eBay staff will also monitor this board to identify issues affecting the site and will post updates and workarounds when required.

Events & Courses - This board is for eBay members to find courses they can take to learn more about eBay or find out how to become an Education Specialist. This board will also be used by eBay to promote special events such as "eBay in Person".

Arts, Crafts & Hobbies - Due to popular demand we are introducing a board for members interested in arts, crafts & hobbies.

Visit any of our new boards by clicking on the links above or to see a full list of the eBay Australia discussion boards click the Community link at the top of any eBay page.

We are also changing the name of the Cars, Bikes and Boats board to eBay Motors.

We hope to see you on the new boards!

***Coming Soon: Helpfulness Ratings for the Answer Centre***

27 March 2006 | 09:43AM EST

In the next few days we're going to make some improvements to the Answer Centre, one of our member-to-member help areas. In case you've never visited, you can get to the Answer Centre from the Community Hub (click “Community” from the navigation bar at the top of any eBay page).

The Answer Centre is a place where buyers and sellers can get quick answers to their questions from other more experienced members. To make this area even more useful, this week we're adding a rating system in the Answer Centre to make it easier to find the most helpful content.

Give a “Yes” or “No” helpfulness vote
For each answer provided by other members, you’ll be able to vote "Yes" or "No" to indicate whether it was helpful. The results will be shown to the right of each answer (for example, "4 of 5 members found this answer helpful").

Sorting by helpfulness
You'll also be able to search by keyword for information about a certain topic, and sort the results by the ratings so the most helpful answers are at the top.

Launch Plan: Answer Centre Unavailable Wednesday 29th March from 4am AEDST
In order to add these ratings, the Answer Centre will be unavailable from 4am on Wednesday March 29th for approximately 8 hours.

The Answer Centre is a great place to get help and advice from some of your most knowledgeable colleagues. To visit, please click here.

27 March 2006 | 07:36AM EST

Over the past year, our community have been calling out for an advertising campaign that tells Australians how great eBay is. We have heard you. It is with great excitement that we announce the recent launch of our brand new campaign. Building awareness for the protection programs available when shopping on eBay, this campaign will attract more shoppers to the site and increase the number of valuable members in our community.

The tag line - "Everyone's doing it" really captures the phenomenon that eBay has become within today’s consumer marketplace - there are over three million Aussie members who are buying and selling practically everything you could want across 50,000 categories within Australia and 33 markets worldwide.

Did you know - on eBay in Australia
- an iPod is sold every 19 minutes
- a car is sold every 19 minutes
- a digital camera is sold every 6 minutes and 27 seconds
- a Nokia phone is sold every 6 minutes and 20 seconds
- an Xbox is sold every 1 hr and 6 minutes
- a car part is sold every 39 seconds
- a sporting good is sold every 39 seconds
- a piece of women’s clothing is sold every 20 seconds
* as at December 2005

The success of eBay in Australia is a result of you our community, the sellers for their hard work and entrepreneurial spirit and the shoppers for their desire to get that rare or well priced item. We hope you like the campaign and welcome any feedback.

***Important Notice: Daylight Saving Time***

23 March 2006 | 04:03PM EST

Due to the Commonwealth Games being held in Melbourne, daylight saving has been extended. On Sunday 2nd April at 03:00:00 Australian Eastern Daylight Saving Time (AEDST) will officially end in NSW, Australian Capital Territory, Victoria, South Australia and Tasmania. At this time the clocks will be put back by one hour and time will subsequently become Australian Eastern Standard Time (AEST).

Queensland, Northern Territory and Western Australia do not observe daylight saving and remain on Eastern, Central and Western Standard Time respectively.

This will impact buyers and sellers using eBay.com.au in the following way:

Sellers, your listings will appear to end one hour early however they will run for the exact time period you choose. For example a three day listing will run for 72 hours (3 x 24 hours). Therefore, a three day listing that starts on Friday 31 March at 6am AEDST will end on Monday 3 April at 5am AEST – which is 72 hours in total given the clock is wound back an hour earlier that morning.

Buyers, please note that both the item "end date" and the watching "time left" takes into account this change so this time change will not impact your bidding or watching activity.

The eBay Team

***Coming Soon: Layout Changes to the Top of the View Item Page***

21 March 2006 | 09:37AM EST

In the next few days we will be implementing some changes to the View Item page due to feedback we have received from the Community that newer members have some difficulty finding information.

Below are some of the changes available soon:

"Meet the Seller” Section – We are renaming the Seller Information area "Meet the Seller." Most of the information will remain the same, except for a few visual changes to make it easier to read.

New "Buy Safely" area - Directly below Meet the Seller will be a Buy Safely section. Buyers expect to find trust-related information in one place, so here we'll list the seller's feedback information, any applicable protection programs (such as whether the listing qualifies for PayPal Buyer Protection), and the seller's return policy, if specified.

Postage Information Higher on the Page - To make it easier to quickly determine the total cost of the item, we're moving the postage information to the top of the page, closer to the current item price.

Relocated Links - The Watch This Item and Email to a Friend links will be moved into the centre of the "blue" section. They’ll still work exactly as they do today – they're just in a different location.

Show/Hide Additional Listing Details - Additional listing details, such as the Starting Time and Duration, have been moved underneath the Watch This Item and Email to a Friend links. These will be hidden by default, but you can easily choose to display them if you wish. Plus, your choice will be "sticky," meaning that these will display (or stay hidden) as you move from item to item.

To become familiar with the new layout, we encourage you to check out this preview of the page so you can see exactly how it will look.

The eBay Team

***Enhancements to Best Offer for eBay Motors Vehicle Fixed Price Listings***

20 March 2006 | 03:37PM EST

We've made several enhancements to the Best Offer feature for Fixed Price listings for vehicle listings on eBay (Cars, Motorcycles, Boats, and Other vehicles). These changes will make it an even more flexible tool for you to use when you are buying or selling.

The Best Offer feature lets vehicle sellers who use the Fixed Price format accept price-based offers from buyers just like in the off-line world. It’s been a popular feature since its introduction early last year, but we’ve also received a lot of suggestions on how we can make it even more useful.

We are pleased to let you know that we’ve introduced the following Best Offer enhancements:

  • Counter-Offer - This new option lets sellers respond directly to a Best Offer either by accepting the offer, or by making a counter-offer. The buyer can then accept the counter-offer, which will close the listing, or respond back with a new offer price.

  • Improved Offer Management – We’ve made it easier for sellers to track new offers, make counter-offers, and manage all offer activity on their Fixed Price listings.

  • Best Offer Button on Item Pages - We’ve made Best Offer a clearer option for buyers on the View Item page by changing it from a link to a more noticeable button.

The eBay Team

***Now Available: Custom Listing Frame to promote your Store***

20 March 2006 | 02:45PM EST

We are pleased to announce a new feature called Custom Listing Frame for Stores sellers.

Store sellers are now able to include most of their Store category navigation in their listing description. We've combined this new functionality with the Custom Listing Header that previously added only a special version of the eBay Store header at the top of item descriptions. The combined options for displaying your Store header and category navigation in item descriptions will now be called the Custom Listing Frame. The Custom Listing Frame will be a simple, effective way for sellers to help buyers discover the full range of items available from you.

There are three key elements (see image below):
A. Breadcrumb (new!)
B. Custom Listing Header (existing)
C. Left Navigation Bar (new!)

In order to use this feature from Manage My Store, click on "Custom Listing Frame." This will lead to a simple administration page from which you can make changes easily.

Please note the Custom Listing Frame setting cannot be applied only to only select listings. It automatically applies to all or none of your listings. If you choose to add the category navigation section of the Custom Listing Frame, then your item description will be compressed slightly into the remaining screen width when displayed. We encourage sellers to take this into account when designing their item description template. The exact size of the category navigation section of the Custom Listing Frame is 170 pixels.

Words that are picked up as part of your left navigation bar do not count towards eBay's Keyword Spamming Policy, which states that the text sellers place in listings must be directly relevant to the item being sold. This helps in cases when other keywords are used to convey what you carry in your Store. The left navigation bar in the Custom Listing Frame will automatically adjust to category changes you have made within your Store, picking up the first 30 categories (regardless of subcategory level) automatically. Just set it and forget it!

We hope you enjoy this powerful new feature!

The eBay Team

***Now Available: Stores Category Expansion (with sub-categories)***

20 March 2006 | 02:29PM EST

We are please to announce we have now expanded our Stores category navigation to enable sellers to create up to 300 custom categories with up to three levels of categories and sub-categories.

As an eBay Store owner, how you set up your categories is totally up to you. For example, you could use your 300 categories to create all top-level categories, or you could create two or three levels of categories (e.g. 30 top-level categories with 5 subcategories each). This category expansion will allow you to create an extensive category structure that is tailored for the items you sell and the way buyers browse for your products.

For each listing, you can choose a primary and a secondary Store category for no extra charge. The listings will count towards the item count displayed for each Store category in which it is listed. Categories with zero listings will not appear within your Store unless that category has subcategories with active listings. From Manage My Store you will be able to see and manage all categories, even those with zero listings.

In order to view your current category structure, click on "Store Categories" in the left hand navigation bar. In the bottom right corner of the table, click on the "All Categories" link.

Existing cross-promotions will work as long as the categories have not changed. Should you choose to change your categories, you will need to edit the rules for cross-promotions to fit the new categories.

For more information, view a quick tutorial.

We hope you enjoy this highly-anticipated new feature.

The eBay Team

***Vehicle History Checks launched on eBay Motors Australia***

13 March 2006 | 03:37PM EST

eBay Motors Australia is pleased to announce a new feature, Vehicle History Checks, which can help make buying a car even easier and safer. Vehicle History Checks helps you research the history of your potential car purchase by providing a link from eBay to the third party vehicle information service Check It Out (www.checkitout.com.au). Depending on which service you opt for, the age of the vehicle and the state you reside in Check It Out can provide information to a range of questions:
  • What is the vehicle status - does the vehicle identification number (VIN), engine and registration number match up?
  • Has it ever been reported stolen or was it ever written off?
  • When the vehicle was first registered, how many times has the registration been transferred and for what purpose was it used?
  • Is there a clear title on the vehicle?
Simply click on the VIN in the listing and Check It Out will take you through the process. If there is no VIN, ask the seller to provide you one by clicking on Ask Seller a Question.

For more details on the types of Vehicle History Checks available, go to www.checkitout.com.au. Please note that www.checkitout.com.au is a third party, independently operated site.

***U2 Postponed Concerts***

10 March 2006 | 12:27PM EST

U2 has recently announced that they have postponed their upcoming Australian tour.

At this stage we recommend that anybody who has purchased a U2 ticket on the site to hold on to it and await further information from the promoters.

eBay Australia has made the decision to end all active listings advertising U2 tickets for the postponed dates.

To avoid confusion among buyers, sellers may re-list these tickets if they clearly state in the listing title and description that the tickets are for an event that is currently postponed to an unscheduled date.

As more information becomes available from the promoter, regarding postponed concerts, we will revisit this situation and post again with an update.
