***Updated: Daylight Saving Time Finishes*** |
 |
 |
 |
31 March 2006 | 12:01PM EST
On Sunday 2 April 2006 at 03:00:00 Australian Eastern Daylight Saving Time (AEDST) will officially end in NSW, Australian Capital Territory, Victoria, South Australia and Tasmania. At this time the clocks will be put back by one hour and time will subsequently become Australian Eastern Standard Time (AEST).
Queensland, Northern Territory and Western Australia do not observe daylight saving and remain on Eastern, Central and Western Standard Time respectively.
Please note eBay.com.au has already reverted to AEST time as per last week's announcement (below), therefore there will be no site impact resulting from this change.

UPDATE: Daylight Saving Time ending early for eBay.com.au*** |
 |
 |
 |
 |
 |
 24 March 2006 | 06:10PM EST

This year, daylight saving (AEDST) has been extended to Sunday 2 April. However, daylight saving time on eBay.com.au will revert to AEST on Sunday 26 March.
We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause to the Community.
eBay systems are automatically programmed to revert to AEST each year on the last weekend in March. After investigating an implementation of this extension of daylight saving to 2 April, it was determined that such a change could negatively impact site functions.
Therefore during the week 26 March - 1 April, the time displayed on view item pages will be AEST, hence one hour behind daylight saving time. For example, an item that shows an ending time of 8:00pm AEST, will actually end at 9:00pm AEDST.
What does this mean for buyers and sellers during this week?
- Our recommendation to buyers is to check “Time Left” when planning to bid on an item - this will give you the clearest indication of when the item will end.
- Our recommendation to sellers who schedule listings to end during the week 26 March - 1 April is to consider the above discrepancy between AEST and AEDST when determining listing times.
Sellers who list before 27 March
Listings will appear to end one hour early however they will run for the exact time period you choose. For example a three day listing will run for 72 hours. Therefore, a three day listing that starts on Friday 24 March at 6:00am AEDST will appear to end on Monday 27 March at 5:00am AEST according to the eBay.com.au clock. However, the listing still runs for 72 hours in total and the actual end time of the listing will be 27 March at 6:00am AEDST.
On Sunday 2 April at 03:00am this issue will be resolved.
Once again, we regret any inconvenience caused by this situation, and we appreciate your understanding.
Regards,
The eBay Team

***Important Notice: Daylight Saving Time*** |
 |
 |
 |
23 March 2006 | 04:03PM EST

Due to the Commonwealth Games being held in Melbourne, daylight saving has been extended. On Sunday 2nd April at 03:00:00 Australian Eastern Daylight Saving Time (AEDST) will officially end in NSW, Australian Capital Territory, Victoria, South Australia and Tasmania. At this time the clocks will be put back by one hour and time will subsequently become Australian Eastern Standard Time (AEST).
Queensland, Northern Territory and Western Australia do not observe daylight saving and remain on Eastern, Central and Western Standard Time respectively.
This will impact buyers and sellers using eBay.com.au in the following way:
Sellers, your listings will appear to end one hour early however they will run for the exact time period you choose. For example a three day listing will run for 72 hours (3 x 24 hours). Therefore, a three day listing that starts on Friday 31 March at 6am AEDST will end on Monday 3 April at 5am AEST – which is 72 hours in total given the clock is wound back an hour earlier that morning.
Buyers, please note that both the item "end date" and the watching "time left" takes into account this change so this time change will not impact your bidding or watching activity.

The eBay Team

***Coming Soon: Layout Changes to the Top of the View Item Page*** |
 |
 |
 |
21 March 2006 | 09:37AM EST

In the next few days we will be implementing some changes to the View Item page due to feedback we have received from the Community that newer members have some difficulty finding information.
Below are some of the changes available soon:
"Meet the Seller” Section – We are renaming the Seller Information area "Meet the Seller." Most of the information will remain the same, except for a few visual changes to make it easier to read.
New "Buy Safely" area - Directly below Meet the Seller will be a Buy Safely section. Buyers expect to find trust-related information in one place, so here we'll list the seller's feedback information, any applicable protection programs (such as whether the listing qualifies for PayPal Buyer Protection), and the seller's return policy, if specified.
Postage Information Higher on the Page - To make it easier to quickly determine the total cost of the item, we're moving the postage information to the top of the page, closer to the current item price.
Relocated Links - The Watch This Item and Email to a Friend links will be moved into the centre of the "blue" section. They’ll still work exactly as they do today – they're just in a different location.
Show/Hide Additional Listing Details - Additional listing details, such as the Starting Time and Duration, have been moved underneath the Watch This Item and Email to a Friend links. These will be hidden by default, but you can easily choose to display them if you wish. Plus, your choice will be "sticky," meaning that these will display (or stay hidden) as you move from item to item.
To become familiar with the new layout, we encourage you to check out this preview of the page so you can see exactly how it will look.
Regards,
The eBay Team

***Enhancements to Best Offer for eBay Motors Vehicle Fixed Price Listings*** |
 |
 |
 |
20 March 2006 | 03:37PM EST

We've made several enhancements to the Best Offer feature for Fixed Price listings for vehicle listings on eBay (Cars, Motorcycles, Boats, and Other vehicles). These changes will make it an even more flexible tool for you to use when you are buying or selling.
The Best Offer feature lets vehicle sellers who use the Fixed Price format accept price-based offers from buyers just like in the off-line world. It’s been a popular feature since its introduction early last year, but we’ve also received a lot of suggestions on how we can make it even more useful.
We are pleased to let you know that we’ve introduced the following Best Offer enhancements:
- Counter-Offer - This new option lets sellers respond directly to a Best Offer either by accepting the offer, or by making a counter-offer. The buyer can then accept the counter-offer, which will close the listing, or respond back with a new offer price.
- Improved Offer Management – We’ve made it easier for sellers to track new offers, make counter-offers, and manage all offer activity on their Fixed Price listings.
- Best Offer Button on Item Pages - We’ve made Best Offer a clearer option for buyers on the View Item page by changing it from a link to a more noticeable button.

***Now Available: Stores Category Expansion (with sub-categories)*** |
 |
 |
 |
20 March 2006 | 02:29PM EST

We are please to announce we have now expanded our Stores category navigation to enable sellers to create up to 300 custom categories with up to three levels of categories and sub-categories.
As an eBay Store owner, how you set up your categories is totally up to you. For example, you could use your 300 categories to create all top-level categories, or you could create two or three levels of categories (e.g. 30 top-level categories with 5 subcategories each). This category expansion will allow you to create an extensive category structure that is tailored for the items you sell and the way buyers browse for your products.
For each listing, you can choose a primary and a secondary Store category for no extra charge. The listings will count towards the item count displayed for each Store category in which it is listed. Categories with zero listings will not appear within your Store unless that category has subcategories with active listings. From Manage My Store you will be able to see and manage all categories, even those with zero listings.
In order to view your current category structure, click on "Store Categories" in the left hand navigation bar. In the bottom right corner of the table, click on the "All Categories" link.
Existing cross-promotions will work as long as the categories have not changed. Should you choose to change your categories, you will need to edit the rules for cross-promotions to fit the new categories.
For more information, view a quick tutorial.
We hope you enjoy this highly-anticipated new feature.
Regards,
The eBay Team
