***PayPal lowers prices!***

24 August 2005 | 06:00PM EST

We are pleased to announce that as of August 19, PayPal has lowered prices for Australian sellers. The fixed-fee portion of the receiving fee for all pricing tiers has dropped from 40 cents to 30 cents, and PayPal has introduced even lower pricing for high-volume customers – as low as 1.1%.

This makes PayPal even more economical for sellers of all sizes. For example, a seller at the standard rate who receives a $20 payment will see generally see fees reduced by more than 10%.

For more information on PayPal’s current fees, including how sellers can become eligible for PayPal’s lowest available pricing, click on the “fees” link located at the bottom of any page on the PayPal Australia site: https://www.paypal.com.au.

***Input Wanted: Next Generation Sell Your Item Form***

24 August 2005 | 05:10PM EST

We are currently working on a new version of the Sell Your Item form. Our goal is to make the tool more efficient so that listing is easier and takes less time.

We have a new version (called SYI Alpha 2) that you can now "test-drive". We’re asking for your input to help us build the best Sell Your Item form possible.

Please keep in mind that even in this second phase, the project is still in its early stages of development. Some of the features and formats found here may or may not be included in the final version. Also since this is a test-version, performance (speed) may be slower than you might expect at times.

You can list actual items on the site through SYI Alpha 2, with some restrictions. For example, it currently does not support categories that use Item Specifics (such as Books, Comics, & Magazines, Computers & IT, etc.). Please see our information page for more details about these limitations of SYI Alpha 2.

Please note: While the full release of the final product is still many months away, we will provide as much advanced notice for sellers to learn the new form and prepare for the change when it is ready.

So, please come be part of the Sell Your Item development process by listing an item or two with SYI Alpha 2 and letting us know what you think! To learn more about SYI Alpha 2, see our information page.

Please email your feedback on the new selling form to syialpha@ebay.com.

The eBay Team

***August Category Structure Changes***

12 August 2005 | 03:59PM EST

Every month changes are made to the category structure on eBay.com.au to make it easier for members browsing eBay to find what they are looking for. A lot of these changes are driven by community suggestions, so a big thank you to those members who wrote in!

This month there are some major changes in:

  • Antiques & Art
  • Cameras & Accessories
  • Crafts
  • Mobiles & Phones
  • Music
  • Lots More
In addition, we are pleased to announce the launch of a new major category in Baby & Maternity! There has been a lot of community demand for this, and the new category will pull together existing subcategories from Home & Lifestyle (Baby & Nursery) and Clothing & Accessories (Baby Clothing and Maternity Clothing). Also, to reflect the inclusion of Baby Toys in this new category, the existing "Baby, Preschool Toys" subcategory in Toys & Hobbies will be renamed to "Preschool Toys (12 months +)".

There are also some minor changes to other categories not mentioned here.

These changes are currently scheduled to go live early in the week beginning 15th August. We strongly encourage members to pay careful attention to which categories have changed and to update Turbo Lister. Existing listings may be moved as categories are split, moved, or renamed.

We always welcome community suggestions and incorporate them wherever possible. To submit a suggestion to eBay click here.

Happy Trading!

Regards,
The eBay Team

***Pre-Announcement: Updates to eBay Emails***

12 August 2005 | 12:21PM EST

Beginning this month, we will be updating several of our site emails, such as End of Auction notices and Bid Confirmations. These emails will soon have a more consistent design intended to make it easier for you to quickly find the most important information.

In addition, these emails you receive from eBay will now include a standard user greeting consisting of your first and last name and User ID. This should better help you determine whether an email is actually from eBay. Learn more about the user greeting.

Please note: the "From" and "Subject" fields in some of these emails are also changing slightly. If you have rules set up within your own email client to filter emails based on either the From or Subject fields, please see this discussion thread on the Auction Listings board on www.eBay.com that includes details about which emails will be affected to help you update your rules.

***Seller Registration Enhancements: Introducing Telephone Verification***

05 August 2005 | 11:41AM EST

In order to sell on eBay, members are asked to complete a verification process. This helps to provide a safe trading environment for the eBay Community.

To date there have been two verification methods; either using a credit or debit card, or having a confirmation code posted to your street address.

In response to Community feedback, we have now introduced an additional verification option via telephone. This is an automated call which is made to your telephone line giving you a confirmation code which you will need to input on eBay.com.au in order to start selling.

If you choose the ‘Telephone Verification’ option, you will be asked to review your telephone number and select a time to be called. You can be called immediately (within 20 seconds) or within 2 minutes, giving you enough time to disconnect your internet connection should that be required.

Please note: Only fixed line numbers can be used for this verification method, no mobile phone numbers will be allowed.

Creating a seller’s account is FREE and your information will be kept private in accordance with our Privacy Policy. Create a seller’s account today!

For more information about selling, visit our seller education centre.

Have fun trading on eBay!

The eBay Team
